Xenoblade X Localization Changes for Character Models

With the changes going on I wonder how many children under the age of 16 they're expecting to pick up this game? I'm still getting it since none of this will ruin gameplay for me but I can't say the same for others.

Great argumentation ! Elaborate discourse !

I'm glad you've latched one to the one comment I made in a series of long posts because you don't agree with what I'm saying. I guess all of the other one liner hit-and-run comments about this issue that you do agree with aren't a problem.

If you pay attention you might notice some nuance in the arguments. People aren't saying that. They're saying that some Japanese games and media are fucking weird to people who don't live in Japan so they pulled the content in localization. What are your feelings about the other change?

I think you're kinda racist and offensive?

Also that you seem to think that anyone would have given a good fucking goddamn about the slider if it had been left in.

Well its nice of you to finally show that you are just trolling people. At least they don't have to take you seriously now. :3

Feel free to read any of the posts I've made in this thread, I'm not trolling anyone. If anyone who isn't outraged by the breast slider being removed is a sexually-repressed Puritan, then why am I not allowed to make a generalization about the people who want the breast slider so badly?

You're obviously upset that you can't jack up the breast size of your character and I get that.

Truly this is the only reason anyone could possibly have an issue with it's removal. You can't accept that you're approving censorship and need your opponents to be unsympathetic perverts or outright sex predators-in-training so that you can pretend this is some holy crusade you are in the right on, and I get that.

Okay, why was the slider removed? Why did they make the decision? Don't we agree it's because they thought people would have a problem with it? I'm not sure I even understand your argument anymore.

So its ok to limit options even further because there wasn't a wealth of choices to begin with?

Sure it's OK, it's their product.

The breast slider was not part of a comprehensive character creator it was there to tittilate lonely otakus. If they had had a fully featured creator and removed that option then it might bother me.

Nintendo are a very conservative company, this is a game that will be played mostly by kids so I guess they didn't want them posting vines of themselves playing with the boob slider. Nintendo is still very scared of lawsuits and FOX News, remember the fiasco around Swapnote and Flipnote Studio.

No, no, let me assure you that I rolled my eyes pretty hard when you hammered multiple times that the character creation was ultra bare bone based on three elements and were proved wrong.

If this were people demanding a breast slider be put in where none had existed, you'd have a point.

But instead we have people insisting that it has been removed "for our own good", and it is thus incumbent on them to defend that position.

The amazing thing is that pictures of breasts have literally never harmed anyone. Drawn or 3D rendered or photographed.

But that is all some people on this site can think of. They are OBSESSED with breasts and how terrible it is that they show up in some games.

Yeah, I had that wrong and I admitted that and corrected myself. I should have clarified that there are only three BODY options.

And found it! Don't know who this dude is, but he obviously was there in person and overheard it from the NoA or 8-4?

Interesting. Too bad they didn't keep their word.

The slider goes in both directions.

Ya because "Japanese media" being foreign to people is obviously the reason why they pulled the slider, lets ignore the fact that Western games of the same rating also tend to keep said slider if it's an option. But let's continue with the "errmerrgerddd Japanese gaems and their animu and yung lewking karacters" as a reason to shit on another culture and the media they create.

I think you are the only one bringing the puritan line with every post. Also making generalizations because the counter argument made generalizations is just childish.

I had no idea he was, thanks for informing, though he might not be lying.

I guess we may never know, since NOA didn't post the Q&A session, but it is odd that this seems to be the only source for that information at all. You would think it would have popped up on another forum or something from a different user.

I'm not shitting on a culture or the games they create, I have the CE pre-ordered. I buy tons of Japanese video games, I'm talking about the 99% of people who will see / buy this game who aren't on NeoGAF.

None of whom would have given a single solitary fuck

That's too bad.

I won't miss that slider in particular, but I really don't like the trend of censoring sexual content in games.

Censorship like this in FE Awakening is ridiculous and I was glad that this was an american-only thing (seemingly) until now:

http://nintendoeverything.com/ninte...th-american-version-of-fire-emblem-dlc-scene/

Yeah, much like Tharabutt being too strong and having to be censored it's not a game breaking thing, but still an instance of a principle I dislike a lot so it leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

Small breasts? Lol pedophile otaku pandering.
Big breasts? Lol perverted otaku pandering.
There's no use in trying to argue with positions like his.

The only winning move is not to play... with boob sliders. :P

Dude is attempting to master the art of shadow boxing.

Exactly my point, they could inflate and deflate the characters boobs and get a few laughs out of it.

This definitely a compelling reason to remove it. Now we can sleep soundly tonight knowing a few 14 year olds won't get a chuckle (or was it masturbate?) over something you think is dumb. Thank god they made sure that won't happen.

It is pandering, and I never said I agreed with their decision. Simply that it's unsurprising that a very conservative company chose to censor that option. What's strange is that they have no problem publishing Bayonetta, I presume they take the distinction between a T and M rating very seriously.

It is dumb. A boob slider in a game that doesn't even let you change a character's waistline is dumb.

The slider goes in both directions.

How is that a meaningful distinction?

In a game where the only body options are height, weight, and bust size (the latter being only for females), that's a pretty damning indication of catering to their audience in Japan, which is not necessarily the same as their audience in the West.

I also can't help but laugh at the idea that minor alterations to an outfit and dropping a bust-size slider is "removing content".

You must not live where I live. I live in big "think of the children" territory, the same area that had parents freaking out over the "Sexbox" Mass Effect love scenes and Hot Coffee.

Not every area is as... open minded. Nintendo wants their money too.

How is literally removing options not "removing content"? Also are you saying that changing boob size is a part of Japanese culture? Also what is this "West"?

Yep, I'll repost what I said a few pages ago since nobody seemed to have read it.

In the fight for better representation of women in video games one of the awful side effects has been people body shaming real body types that women have. Removing overly sexy stuff that is only there to serve as masturbatory material for men is one thing, but removing an option that the player can use to express themselves or better represent themselves in the game is awful. The existence of different breast sizes is not inherently sexual, it's a fact of life, it is how they are presented in games that is the problem, but we constantly have people wanting to get rid of anything that they see as not the "normal" size because "it's sexual", what people don't realize is that claiming that large or small breasts only exist for sexual reasons is body shaming actual real life women. Breast sizes should not be an issue, it should be how the outfits in the game present them and removing the ability to have different breast sizes misses the point entirely.

A breast-size slider isn't content. It's just a slider. It makes your bust bigger or smaller and has no bearing on the game whatsoever, hence my statement.

I'm not saying changing boob size is a part of Japanese culture. I'm saying that the fact that the game's only body-size-related sliders are height, weight, and bust size suggest (to me) that bust size is included for titillation and pandering to a particular portion of their Japanese audience, and that tolerance for that kind of pandering and exploitation is decreasing in the West in a way it is definitely not in Japan.

West for the purposes of this discussion being EU and US.

For me, the issue comes down to choice. You would've had a choice to interact/not interact with the slider as you saw fit. If you didn't like it, you would've left it along and your life would've been unchanged. This feels like someone saying that because they don't like something, nobody else should have access to it. By "this", I mean this whole thing of removing the slider.

I would very much argue it's a part of the game, thus content. It is part of the visuals of a character you will be stuck with throughout the whole game.

That is pretty insulting towards the Japanese audience. You calling it straight out exploitation is baffling to me.

See, you can't compare EU and US at all in these questions.

I don't agree, but then, I think the bizarre fetishization of choice around gaming in general is less than ideal. The continued inclusion of features like this that only target one sex is not something I can in good conscience support, and I'm glad it's gone.

If it were a more robust CC and had all kinds of sliders for both sexes, I would be totally cool with it.

I'm cool with changing Lin's outfits (I actually like the look of some of the changes) but the bust slider removal kinda sucks. Aside from height, there isn't much body diversity in the game and I'd rather them not remove any options.

*blind-posts*

At least the altered swimsuits look decent, seeing them in full now, compared to the weird mish-mash impression from the skewed image a week or so ago. But removing the bust slider? That's...kinda weird. From what's shown here, even at max it's not excessive, so why bother hampering persons who want to reflect their body types? (But then, I'd imagine the character customization has limits on how skinny or fat you can be, so it'd be limited anyway, as proportions go.)

The Sims is a western franchise that's more popular with women than it is with men and even it has a breast slider. The most recent addition, The Sims 4, was just released last year. Some bringing up Japan as a reason it exists or suggesting that such a thing is decreasing in the west isn't fair.

I wonder how many people out of the thousands posting on Internet message boards right now actually reach out to Nintendo with their grievances?

10?

1000?

Like I said in an earlier post, if the character creator in this game was robust (which obviously the Sims ones are), it would be a totally different situation, IMO. It's the fact that the *only* body edits you can make are height, weight, and bust size that stands out.
