Xenoblade X Localization Changes for Character Models

I'm too lazy to search the last ten pages... how many gaffers already said they won't buy the game because the boob slider was removed?

None, or if you prefer, the same number of gaffers that said they will buy the game thanks to this change.

There is no North American version of the game with those options. If it didn't exist in the first place, then it can't be removed.

You might as well be talking about how all of the Japanese text and voices were also "removed" (and I'm sure some people will). It did not exist in the first place.

I honestly don't know if you're being serious or not here. That's worrying.

What's an equivalent male option that even makes sense, though? The obvious one is bulge size, but that's generally not something that's visible enough for the variance to even matter, unless it's a game like Saints Row where you have the option of running around in a speedo for the whole game. Any other customization option they could add to "make up for it" would also make sense on women as well, so in the end women would still have one more slider than men.

Pec slider perhaps?

Seems like it's pointless to complain about it if you're treating it the same way as all of the other content that got cut for release.

Semantics aside, it was never in the cards for the North American version.

The NA version is not some completely new game that NoA built up from scratch.

The mental gymnastics you're doing is fairly impressive.

I would have rather they kept it and made a more extensive customization system rather than dropping the slider, but hardly a big deal to me.

I'm sorry if there have been threads about this before, but what about the European version? Does it have the same modifications? The last thread I saw about this was the one regarding Lin, which didn't specify a region, if remember correctly. And this thread is mostly talking about the North American version.

I can understand censoring the underage character but outright removing a bust slider? What the hell? Glad I no longer have the means to support this.

I'd venture a guess that the only difference between the NA and EU versions is the number of text languages supported.

Considering the game is releasing at the the same time in both regions and looking at how they handled the original Xenoblade, it's probably safe to assume that there is no difference between them other than the labels on the box and different text options.

I'd wager the European version is the same, added languages aside. if NoE kept the slider for X then the thread likely turns into an NoA bashing thread.

In the context of Xenoblade X, the boob slider felt out of place. It's a very basic character creator, with not many options. Especially not for the body, besides height I assume. I remember the male one having nothing, so the boobies for the girls felt tacked on and pure fanservice. Leaving it out definitely feels more right. It was either that, or give the male some more options too.

Why?

Possibly one or two. I don't specifically seeing anyone saying it though.

I'm on the fence but specifically cause it seems like the game isn't plot-centric like Xenogears and Xenosaga. (I haven't gotten a straight answer about this, if anyone can clarify, that'd be great.)

The fact that it has less fan service makes me want it more, but given that it does so because of censorship REALLY rubs me the wrong way.

I think someone confirmed that the European version had the slider removed as well.

Not really

I'm more interested in the number of people who now WILL buy the game because they aren't confronted with the fact that women don't all have the same breast size

I'm pretty sure the answer is zero since breast sliders are (rightfully) the norm in character creators.

It certainly did. It wasn't a very robust character creator, with not a ton of options for adjusting the size of other things.

In fully featured character creators, perhaps, but if that's the standard against which XenobladeX's character creator is being held, then it's missing a ton of other expected features.

I already posted earlier in this thread that the EU version has the same modifications, but without a link to a video that demonstrated this. I've just refound the video I came across earlier today that shows there is no bust slider: https://youtu.be/CisE23k0-q8?t=426

Why? Changes happen in localization. Calling all of them removals and censorship is far more asinine to me.

If you're savvy enough to know everything about the Japanese original, why aren't you just playing that one?

The line can become murky when strictly discussing the issue of the translating lines. One could potentially remove stuff there and just write it off as localization, and it might even be plausible in some situations. Sometimes localizations just straight up add things or rewrite lines entirely. Even if it's not censorship, some people would take issue with that.

This is a completely different thing though. This is just straight up removing content.

And "LOL go learn Japanese and play the original" is always a really dumb deflection.

America is just not ready for this and EU is slowly starting to be the same...

Just because some see offense everywhere we can't have these things. I don't say I wanted this or that I would have used it (and I personally don't like it knowing characters are underage) but if it's the creator's vision then keep it this way. Those who don't like it can not buy it.

Some music are "offensive" for some, still they do exist. If it's not clearly offensive or insulting then I don't see why the edit is needed.

Here I think that it's more because of the age of the characters rather than boobs. For Japan young girls are not seen the same as in US or EU.

Straight up removing content that they deemed inappropriate for their market. Content that does not affect the gameplay or story or really anything else in any way.

Also, Nintendo's localizations are often wild departures from the source material, often only capturing the spirit of the original. Rewriting lines entirely is how they typically do things. They want their games to feel at home in the markets they target.

And it's not "LOL go learn Japanese and play the original," just that if you are so hardcore and concerned about the purity of a game, then the boob slider should be the least of your concerns.

You hear that ladies? If your bust size is small or large it's not appropriate for you to live in the US.

So you agree that it's "removed" now, right?

The number of people citing artistic intentions (of a character creator? come on) and comparing this to change lyrics in music or scenes in a movie is utterly baffling to me. These things aren't even remotely analogous.

Ideally such sliders would be available on the female character creator as well. While few people would do much with it and few women look like Hulk Hogan, most men don't either and I see no good reason the option shouldn't be there, at least on more robust creators. But yeah, in this kind of situation, they probably should have included something like that as an equivalent.

Well, saying this is not bad because there is far worse doesn't strike me as very convincing a counterargument. But yeah, the other things are terrible too.

I admit that was a dumb discussion, largely due to how I interpreted how that person used "remove."

Yes, it was removed in relation to the Japanese version, but my point was that it will never have existed in the first place for the North American market, and only people who are hardcore enough to follow very specific details of the Japanese version will notice, and an even smaller number of them will be bothered by it in any way.

You hear that ladies? If your bust size is small or large it's not appropriate for you to live in the US.

Oh, sure, they definitely put that option in for "the ladies." Uh huh.

I was mainly talking about just how different a game can come across when it is translated into another language. The story, characters, and plot points are all very important parts of a game, and a localization can make them come across very differently from language to language. You can only experience the "pure" version of a game that uses a ton of language and has a strong story focus by playing the original.

Are you serious.....That first line right there might be the most ridiculous thing we've seen in a while.

In most cases, the removal of swearing in music is probably about as significant as anything they've done to this game. In any case, not sure about anyone else, but I only brought those up to point out how censorship has been used in the past. The significance and artistic merit of the particular things wasn't really relevant or intended to be implied to be necessarily equivalent to what's happening here.

We 1990's now?

This is a puzzling choice, but it's not going to stop me from buying the game. I'm more concerned with what this means for future games with actual 'problematic' content, like FE Fates.

Think I'm just going to sit back and wait on release to see what else in the game/text-wise has been changed. The bust slider isn't a make or break thing, but it just seems rather silly to do in the first place. Having their history of how localizations have been handled doesn't exactly instill the most confidence.

I'm really kind of weary what changes they'll have in store for FE:Fates.

Bububu... It's just a vidyagame ! Totally not downplaying the whole thing to suit my opinion on the matter, swear.
