XSEED Games releasing Akiba's Trip: Undead and Undressed/ Ys VI for PC this spring

Separate leaderboards for regular and Catastrophe is a great idea, though having improved warps is the biggest draw for this release.

I hope AT has arbitrary resolution options and 60 FPS atop what's already been listed.

Just thought I'd add some extra clarity here: Catastrophe Mode is a separate thing rather than a "difficulty" per se. It is selected after difficulty, and completely eliminates all traces of most of the game's useable items (including the healing items of course). Even the menus in that mode show no real signs that stockable healing items ever existed. You can see a small bit of this in the announcement trailer, as footage from Catastrophe Mode has no sign of the stock item slot.

Enemy drop healing items are used on pick-up in Catastrophe Mode, but that's exactly the same way Oath in Felghana and Origin work, after all. It's just less obvious there, since the items never existed in a menu-useable form there in the first place.

(Edit: Also, Catastrophe Mode has its own leaderboards, before anyone asks.)

The warping system is a "Warp Map" very similar to Oath in Felghana's. I've made the old behavior (only warping out of a dungeon to its entrance) available as a hidden INI option for purists, so hopefully everyone should be happy.

...And yeah, I personally don't feel the Konami stuff not being there is a loss. Especially the character models and voice acting. Even the Japanese voice acting was grating to me...

Thank you so much, Sara. Catastrophe Mode is something I didn't even know I wanted, but it makes so much sense now.

And yes, screw the Konami version.

Off topic but who do I gotta get drunk up their ass in a hostess bar to get Brandish 2: THE PLANET BUSTER PC Engine ver. released in English?

Say wydwrd, any chance you could get the Ys OSTs on Steam? I would so gladly buy the OSTs if they were up on Steam.

This is adding to my ever-increasing Ys backlog on Steam; have it on PS2, have only beaten Ys 1 thus far. I've still got Origins, 2, Celceta...

Take me to the classiest, most expensive hostess clubs in Ginza and we can talk.

Anyway... We'll most likely never have the OSTs officially up on Steam because that would directly compete with Falcoms soundtrack sales. They put up their full soundracks on the North American itunes store. I have them all, they're completely worth it.

Well, the music is already on .OGG format on the game's folder for every Falcom game so far. <game>/release/music in case of Ys games, and <game>/BGM/ with Trails in the Sky, and Falcom has also released lots of their soundtracks in iTunes lately.

Ah didn't know that, I need to use the iTunes store more often @_@

Do we know if the new Ys is going to be Ys 8 or a proper Ys 5?

Speaking of Ys 5, if it does get remade, I want it to be like Oath and 6, just Adol without any team stuff.
...and just for a little bit of extra fun, add in the option to play as Geis, he doesn't have to interact with Adol but just have his own campaign just to get a little more background on his character.

YS, I get, Akiba trip though? From watching videos and reading impressions, I thought it was generally thought of as a light good but not great brawler?

Opinion lies everywhere for Akiba's Trip. There's also politics of gender-based interpretation surrounding it (Tom's defended their localization of the game as catering to both genders equally), so the game part of the product's overlooked every now and then.

Hey, Tom. Can you talk about the DLC for Akiba's Trip PC? Will everything be included in the PC release like the PS4 version, or is that stuff going to be cut due to licensing or something? If you can't talking about it that's fine too.

I'm just curious since it wasn't mentioned in press release.

Should be like the PS4 version, where it's all included in the game, but don't quote me on that -- I'll need to look into it a bit more before I can say for certain.

Yay for Ys. Do not care about the otaku garbage game though.

So little Akiba's Trip love. :( That was one of my favorite games I've worked on at XSEED to date. Its gameplay is simple but fun, the story and characters are engaging and shockingly well-written, and the sense of humor is absolutely unbeatable. It's a fantastic game that manages to do tongue-in-cheek humor RIGHT, and is fun to play as well.

It's not groundbreaking, and its gameplay isn't going to wow you with its complexity or anything, but it's a game that the developers clearly put a lot of their heart and soul into -- it feels very genuine, like a love letter from Acquire to the district they live and work in, and to all the fans who appreciate them. It's easily the best Acquire game I've ever played, and was one of my top five favorite releases of 2014 (if you count it as a 2014 release, anyway, since it came out in Japan in 2013!).

It's also our best English dub of all time, and the most fun I've ever had at voice recording.

And has my personal best voice-acting in it. Though that's not saying much. ;)

Anyone knows who did Akiba's Trip port? The developer?

Yeah, it was ported by Acquire.

Speaking of Ys 5, if it does get remade, I want it to be like Oath and 6, just Adol without any team stuff.

Er, Geis has no connection to Ys V, though, does he? I don't think he's even ever been to Xandria...

Neato, I'll probably get both sometime soon. I joined the steam community for Akiba'strip before it was officially announced and used the provided steam avatar to mock the leak a bit. :p

Really looking forward to Ark of Napishtim, cutting down the backtracking (especially running between the city and the village over and over) with warping and Catastrophe Mode should make it a lot more fun.

Cool, thanks for the response. I'll remain optimistic.

Spring? Both. Day 1.

Usually I'm too lazy to buy a console game, but when it's just staring you down on Steam while you're on your PC? It feels like it's mocking you and saying, "go ahead, just click this button and it's yours! You know you want it... think of all the benefits and options!" Next thing I know, it's downloading.

Also, only one programmer? Wow.

very skeptical Koei-Tecmo

I will never touch another one of their PC ports ever again.

So little Akiba's Trip love. :(

Pfft, I'm buying it, I'm in the mood for a weird brawler and I don't see anything else scratching that itch anytime soon.

Yup, quite some time back.
