XSEED is at it again [It might actually be TITS SC this time]

Regarding platforms I saw Wyrdwad post this on the XSEED forums (from last month).

Why would an announcement of a Steam version preclude us from announcing the console or handheld version as well? I've said this whole time that if and when we do announce SC, we will almost certainly announce it for (and release it for) Steam first, since a Steam version is much quicker and easier to release (mostly because there's no ESRB requirement, no mastering process and Sara can handle the programming rather than us having to sync with Falcom's schedule). That wouldn't mean the PSP and PS3 versions are off the table, though.

Never really understood why people assume that...

He says they don't have the right to the PS3 version (right now) though.

You'd better be. The Trails/Kiseki series is the best series.

Everyone keeps saying that, but I can't see it. I made it about 15 hours into First Chapter before I gave up on it from boredom. I don't see the greatness in it.

Well, FC is a slow burn and kind of like a really lengthy prologue for the series. I can understand not feeling it for most of the game. You have to be in the mindset of a lighthearted globetrotting adventure. It isn't until later where stuff gets serious and really cool.

It's really the other games that made me fall in love with the series. But I still like FC a ton too. I actually can't think of a single person I know who's played all the way to the end of FC and didn't REALLY want SC.

Is the third game a must to complete the story? Or is this a different situation to the first game?
Like Aeana says, SC is basically the end of the story arc started in FC and concludes most things. There are still loose ends, but out of all the games available, if I had to pick one to be the last one released in English, I'd definitely go with SC. It's a nice satisfying ending and wraps things up fairly well. 3rd is basically designed to be a bridge game between the Sora games and Zero/Ao onwards, so honestly, localising that is just going to make people want the rest of the series localised even more than they do already. And the further you get into the series after that point, the more obvious it gets they want this to be a big long interconnected series.

So yeah, if they have to pick a game to go 'Sorry guys, no more' after, SC is the best one to pick, and I think most people would be happy enough with that. No other game in the series has had an ending anywhere near as painful as FC's.

Hope they put FC on sale now :>

Resisted all this time since I didn't want to set myself up for disappointment when SC never happened

Wow if this is sc.... Might actually play the first one now, bought it day 1 but never got around to it and the lack of sequels didn't help motivating me to play it.

Yeah, it took me a while to get used to FC. I ended up having to restart it because I kept putting it down and wasn't playing it as much as I should. I finally realized that it was because I wasn't as into the game as I thought I was. SC's better in terms of pacing (though there's one bit towards the end which is kinda ehhh), but the ending's worth it. So, yeah, you're not alone in thinking FC's probably not for you.

It honestly wasn't until I'd played 3rd that I finally 'got it' and understood why people liked these games a lot. It really is a decent substitute for Suikoden. But 3rd is different from other games in the series in some respects...

The one thing I'd probably recommend for the Kiseki games is to not play them little-by-little, and play them in large chunks, but that's what ended up working for me. Dunno if that'd work for everyone else.

It's definitely not for everyone. The gameplay is decent but the main selling point for Trails in the Sky is the characters & world-building.

When it comes to pacing, Trails in the Sky feels more like an epic novel, whereas most RPG series feel more like a movie or TV series.

Is this it? Is it real?!? HOSANNAH MOTHERBITCHES!

I never played this. I'm excited?

YES. YES YOU ARE.

Would be super awesome to get it on Steam, PS3 and Vita, more and more people to buy it and then justify future releases.

All over my face please, I liked TITS so much. It was easily among my favourite RPGs this gen.

Okay, since you people are so excited over this I will definitely play FC if we know more about the release of SC (on Vita). Cheers.

I loved Full Metal Panic and Full Metal Panic Fumoffu (sp). What a fun show. Have they released anything else for the series since?

You missed out on The Second Raid, bro! Not quite the lighthearted hijinks of Fumoffu but still a good show nonetheless.

Same. I like Falcom because of Ys and unless the game is episodic in nature, I don't have the motivation to play anything if the whole saga is incomplete in localisation. I am on every platform so where it is released doesn't matter.

Yeah, about 15 hours for me as well. :/ Way too much dialogue about nothing, and I'm usually pretty forgiving when it comes to story/dialogue in JRPGs.
Maybe I'll give it another shot... when I have a lot of free time.

I actually can't think of a single person I know who's played all the way to the end of FC and didn't REALLY want SC.

After finishing FC the last thing I wanted to do was start SC. I was not a fan of FC's long, drawn-out, usually-not-very-interesting dialogue that often made it difficult for me to stay focused. I love reading books, but this was just not good writing (I played the English version, maybe it's better in Japanese), and I didn't find the story interesting or novel. Maybe I'll give SC a try after a really long break, though, as I've heard the story is better in SC. I've also played a few hours of Zero no Kiseki and I've found that to be better than FC so far as well.

I'll take it on any platform but more of my friends have PCs than PS3s or Vitas so if it comes out on Steam I'll be able to buy the most copies as gifts.

Well, that's certainly the first time I've heard that. I admit I haven't played the English version all the way to the end, so I'm not sure about how the game is written in English, but it's certainly written well in Japanese. But as I mentioned, most of FC is a prologue for the series at large, and it's really the last chapter that's just super awesome. I'm surprised you didn't feel that way, though.

FC did have overly wordy padded out dialogue, so it's not just you. It often felt like a draft that needed to be edited down.
