XSEED Teases 2015 Releases With New Years Image

Being held accountable for one's actions is fine, the debate here is about whether those actions were in any way problematic. And I haven't heard a single convincing argument as to that being the case so far.

Agreed.

Your replies on the topic strike me as incredibly ignorant, honestly. If what the mods have posted can't open your eyes, nothing will.

I found a list of unlocalised games and picked one to look up that sounded familiar.

So I just got lucky basically

Hah! Man...lady luck and I have not seen Eye to Eye since I won that damned raffle 25 years ago. 1990 was the last time I actually won anything bigger than a damned candy bar -.-

My guess is the sword hilt was the initial hint. Working backwards from there was pretty smart if you limit your search to silhouettes.

Was more thinking bout the abstract thought process to actually be able to fit such a piece of a puzzle to larger picture. I have no problems with real puzzles but these stumped me hard.

Thing is that no one has said it isn't hurtful but at the same time haven't penned an answer to why it shouldn't be there outside of it being a hurtful word for many. That is probably enough for many but it isn't apples and oranges.
Played the following Kiseki games? a Certain scene there will not go over well with many but it's absolutely crucial to the story. Should it be removed?

How dare anyone try to hold XSEED accountable for their actions. /s

Not saying they are in the right, but sometime people should just let it go, especially if it's in the wrong thread.

I disagree with Jason Schreier's article on George Kamitani which denounced him as a horny teenage boy but I don't pop up in a unrelated thread to make a jab at him.

I know people are determined to make XSEED accountable for their actions, but they have already faced the music from the public a few months back. I'm sure they would have gotten the message back then. All the hate mails, tweets etc have been noticed to them. In fact, thanks to some rather extreme threats (e.g someone threatening to kill themselves), it distressed a couple of XSEED's employees so much that even went on a short hiatus because of the hate they are getting. The point is not lost on them.

I honestly feel like there's no need to drag it back up again....or if some forumers still insist on doing so, why not create a new thread to focus on the topic instead of doing it here when other GAFfers visiting just want to know what XSEED is teasing for the upcoming year?

I'm one of them and I'm kinda dismayed to see the thread heading in a direction that I wasn't expecting.

...Also, as a general aside, please note that the silhouettes on our New Year's card are more representative of the characters depicted on them than they are of any specific games. Not that it'll necessarily make a difference in most cases, but just FYI!

Looking forward to Onechanbara Z2 then!!

I hope

Bear in mind that we feel much the same way. We've been trying our best to explain why we chose that word, and that we honestly, truly meant absolutely no offense to anyone by it, but it feels like our words are falling on deaf ears. If what I've posted can't open YOUR eyes, I'm not sure anything ever will.

And that's really sad, because we just want to bring you guys great games and translate them as accurately to the intent of the original Japanese as possible. We didn't want any of this, and we wish you guys would just try to understand where we're coming from... or at least accept that we honestly didn't mean any offense, agree to disagree with our localization choice, and move on. What sense is there in holding a grudge over a misinterpretation of intent?

Why are we bringing up a 6 month old topic in an unrelated thread and people who told others to "drop it" are then bringing it back up in their next post? Fucking stop already.

That said, looking forward to more Ys. Hopefully the PS4 game is one of the yellow card question marks.

It's almost insulting that you would claim to feel the same on any level. You're not portraying that in the slightest.

I have no idea what you mean. I simply read this article earlier today because this "controversy" was brought up, and find myself agreeing with the thrust of its argument.

The only points the opposite side in the argument have provided that I can see are these:
  • The alternative translation "G.I.R.L.", which neither I nor, clearly, many people in this thread have ever heard of. That disqualifies it as a useful translation.
  • The fact that using the word "trap" is offensive, which was never in dispute. But characters in all kinds of media using offensive language does not make that media in itself offensive, unless it endorses that use. Which does not seem to be the case here.
Tell me what I missed.

My methodology has just been google image searching games that it looks like Xseed might localize and seeing if there's any elements of the official charecter art that matches the silhouette. Trying to figure it out from the silhouettes themselves seems like a bad idea to me, because assuming that it's something that it isn't could lead to overlooking things that fit.

I just joined the other day, and I could have sworn I remember reading something in the regulations about derailing topics.

Anyway, has anything new been dug up concerning that second silhouette?

True enough. And I'm a effing idiot. I just googled away to find Japanese/Chinese PC/VITA/PS3/4 releases of Falcom/Marvelous games and stared. I stopped there, puked a bit and now I'm playing the chicken game with myself and wondering if Waifu games are less important than leveling up my Social Justice skill check. At the moment the Social Justice is winning but it's not to be brought up in this thread. I rather write a homoerotic story declaring that the Bromance is back on or just tell him how much fucking snow we've gotten in the last 4 hours.

I don't understand this at all. Media of all kinds use accurate slurs all the time. You've never heard words like "nigger," "fag" or "gook" in a TV show before? Should we rage at TV channels who broadcast shows that use that kind of language too? Because I'm sure people in those audiences have been hurt by the use of the slurs.

This. Exactly this. There are so many films and tv shows that use slurs and politically incorrect terms, hence why I brought up Eastbound & Down earlier, a show where the main source of comedy derives from its racist and sexist lead character and how much of an asshole he is. That doesn't mean the show itself is racist and sexist. Why is it that one medium can get away with so much, yet video games attempt to do the same and get the whole pitchforks-and-torches treatment in response.

Imagine Gran Torino without Clint Eastwood spouting long-forgotten racial slurs left, right and centre. Imagine if a fucking video game tried to do something similar!

So the only silhouette left is the 2nd one, which looks like legs?

I checked Estival Versus and the artwork for the new characters don't seem to match. I'll have to see if SK2 has any artwork that I can compare it to (it's not Masamune, Ikaruga's brother, I know that).

if it is SK, i expect it to be 2 instead of EV, since the former is already out

I don't want to get myself banned but could we drop this discussion and stay on topic? (I don't post in here but I follow the thread for updates from detective GAF.)

EDIT: I have been watching a few Sen No Kiseki videos and the game looks really cool. I might have spoiled the final boss, but I don't care.

I wonder what version we will get.

EDIT 2: While I am at it, how good is Xanadu Next? I have heard people being happy about getting a localization, but is it really a good game?

Yeah, that was my logic, especially since Xseed has been going in order of JPN releases.

I think there might've been one or two new characters in SK2. I'll have to see if I can find artwork of them.

I started typing a reply 5 times and deleted everything again each time haha.
Anyway, I hope we get some information on Xanadu Next soon.

Just one new playable, Ikaruga's brother, and his pants don't match.

Finally...back on topic.

Anyone done comparison with Nayuta no Kiseki character? Their legs looks similar.

Actually I am.
Going the rounds. Thought it was Lyla first but doesn't seem to fit now :(

Also
I feel like it would have been found by now if it was a Falcom or Senran Kagura charecter. Those seem like the most obvious.

Just doing a double take...I don't feel like letting go of that hope just yet :D

Okay, I tried to remove the question mark there. Doesn't looks like a leg with upper part being too big.

Hmmmm, I think it's a bit of a stretch, but....

Rin's legs look ALMOST similar to the silhouette's. But hers are a bit smooth compared to the hint.

I've been following the entire thing - that's basically the TL;DR version of it.

For some reason, video games have been a target of censorship aside from the usual cries against violence/sexuality (although violence tends to get a pass in favor of sex in the USA), in the sense of topics/subjects/words/etc that may be offensive to some people.

Instead of accepting it as simply "part of the game," people seem to want to associate it with the developers, in this case XSEED, like they somehow endorse the use of the word trap. Does Acquire (the dev) endorse the terminology, on a personal level? Probably not. They just put it in the game, because reasons.

Anyway, I'm really excited about all of the localizations, bring it on XSEED/Marvelous!

We have the left side of a head and the right side of a head, one male and one female. So since we have a female right torso, a male left torso would fit with the pattern, if that is a pattern.

So it looks like it could be either a rather muscular and rigid upper body, or somebody wearing loose pants that get tighter as they go down.

DetectiveGAF never ceases to amaze me. How you people figure this stuff out is beyond me.
