Really glad everyone rushed out their reviews as fast as humanly possible instead of waiting till the game was contentpatch complete. Great job!
Since the game has a physical release, it's likely that the game went gold quite a while ago, so they will have been working on this patch since then. Pretty much the same as any other day one patch.I'm going to go out on a limb and say the publisher may have had something to do with this situation. It's rather bizarre that a patch was ready that quickly, so I would have to guess that some of these fixes were already in the works.
If you don't notice these problems during two years of development its clearly endemic to design and being fixed in reaction to reviews, reviews that came on an embargo date they themselves set.
This whole thing is nuts. Review embargo is up, reviews come out, and now the patch is released in seemingly record time, already out on Xbox One and the others within days, all before any actual consumer gets their hands on the game. The timing just seems so bad! I'm glad it's getting fixed, and the timing is not such that they could have turned the performance around "because" of the reviews, it had to be in the works much earlier. Maybe they should have not had reviewable copies until the patch was ready? I dunno.
Using that logic, we should wait until next year for Andromeda reviews, and five years from now for Nintendo Switch reviews

This game has design decisions that are not going to be fixed with a patch. Most of the things they are fixing they already mentioned in the review emails. This isn't some patch due to review reception.
Eh, you didn't list anything I wouldn't like.
Yes, that would be my point. The modern gaming scene is super impulsive and has zero long-term perspective. I mean FFS, the Yooka-Laylee reviews are going to be off before the goddamn game even comes out.
Do you guys think Switch version will launch this month?
Do you guys think Switch version will launch this month?
Not at all. They aren't going to announce the release date and then just release it right after. They have to have some time to market it.
Smh Im buying the xbox one version then. I cant wait that long I was wanting this game for awhile...Likely not. I don't know anything, but my guess would be mid-to-late summer since it was only announced recently.
That's kind of how all reviews work. It's not the reviewers fault if the game has issues on launch. I mean as a game funded by backers, if Playtonic needed more time they almost certainly could have gotten it? I don't think their publishers would breath down their necks to rush it out now rather than in say May.
That footage is not 60fps.I would be extremely surprised if that were Switch footage, given that much less technically demanding Unity games like Bomberman, Setsuna, and Mr. Shifty can't even reach 60fps.
Yeah even going by this thread title and reviews the game is not a constant 60 fps unfortunatelyThat footage is not 60fps.
That footage is not 60fps.
I can tell. Sorry if I wasn't clear, but what I meant was that it's running at a smooth 30fps while appearing to look virtually identical to the PC/PS4/XB1 versions in visual quality, which is vastly more than any other Unity game on the system is doing.
I'm a little skeptical as well but we'll see. The PS4/XO versions were ported by Team 17 but Playtonic is handling the Switch port on its own.I can tell. Well he backed down from that "overblown" word pretty fast lol
Glad to hear that the patch seemingly has improved things

He 'backed down' just because he doesn't want to dispute that some people ever had issues at all.
They could've easily put notes with the review packs stating that the camera issues were being addressed. Reviews would have then been able to mention this.I agree especially when a lot of reviewers griped about the camera and performance issues. Sorta sucks having them lose potential sales over something they were clearly working on and will likely have ironed out before the actual release date hit's.
Guess I need to post this again since there are some people who seem to have already forgotten after 2 page. Wow, how the mind slips!
"Allegedly"
Opening admitting to sexually assaulting someone(then banning anyone who called him out for it)
Posting revenge porn with their real full names then another admin(a now jailed pedophile) printed the photos and jacked off over them and sent it to the boyfriend.
You're right, how can we even know if he's guilty or not? HMMMM
Also:
Exactly. It'd be weird if he disputed it considering it's on video. He just realized he didn't use the best word
He also commented three posts above yours.John at Digital Foundry has commented on the experience. Interesting.

Exactly.
It's clear as day that they had issues in that review but I have not been able to replicate those problems at all. The game is running great (and I didn't run into those hitches or pauses pre-patch either).
Basically, it seems to me that there is something up with the Xbox One or this is related to an issue I've suspected with Xbox One where performance is inconsistent between different machines.
For instance, I was getting 34 second load times in Snake Pass on both of my Xbox systems yet others are getting less than 20 seconds. Why? It doesn't make any sense since we were using internal drives included with the system.
Which makes me wonder if there is something else going on outside of the games themselves.
I've literally just put four hours into the game on Xbox One and have only found exactly one area where the game slowed down (when you put the camera into the flames). I got one tiny hitch during the arcade racing game too. Other than that, it is a locked 30fps.
...but you can't dispute that GameXplain ran into performance issues since it is on video either.
So, when covering it, I'm going to mention that some folks have had a bad experience but that, in our testing, the game runs very consistently on Xbox One with slowdown focused entirely on alpha overdraw killing the GPU in select circumstances. I'm still playing, though, and continuing to capture - I'm hunting for slowdown right now.
Of course, the patch is installed now and, although it was already pretty good prior to that patch, it seems basically perfect now.
That's an interesting point.I only have an OG Xbox One but I swear there's times when games misbehave at random depending on when I last rebooted it, if I have used lots of other apps and whether the moon is full.
For a fixed platform I've seen variation in performance that is a bit inexplicable at times! I almost wish I went for the Xbox version just to see this for myself but the patch along with the fact I didn't own an Xbox One when I backed the Kickstarter precluded this.
That's an interesting point.
Before FPS testing, I always make sure to reboot my Xbox One just in case as I have also encountered weird crashes or other issues when I don't. Maybe related to suspend mode? Either way, the system does seem somewhat unstable.
I'd be curious to know if those having issues had freshly rebooted their Xbox?
I'm thinking the patch helped a lot. Just installed on my regular Xbox One (haven't tried it yet) but I've been playing a lot on Xbox One S and it's very fluid for the most part (well, fluid for 30fps).
The only areas where I'm able to drop the frame is when placing the camera within alpha effects such as flames - that kills performance. Other than that, it has been very stable. That GameXplain video, which showcases many of the same areas I've been playing, highlights performance far worse than anything I've encountered. None of those massive pauses or hitches have occurred at all even after hours of playing.
We'll see how it holds up on my OG Xbox One, though. Maybe it's terrible on there but smooth on Xbox One S?
Covering this game is tricky because I'm hearing all these complaints but...it runs quite well on consoles. I never expected 60fps here as it's a large scale Unity game (not that it would be impossible but...that's a tall order). This is one of the best optimized Unity console games I've played as of late. You don't get that buttery smooth performance of Inside or Assault Android Cactus, mind you, but the game is so different and of a larger scale so I think it's acceptable.
I'm a little skeptical as well but we'll see. The PS4/XO versions were ported by Team 17 but Playtonic is handling the Switch port on its own.
