My KZ3 hate comes from the utter dumbing down of the game, came in expecting much from the sequel and get a bad COD clone. BC2 has health between COD4 and UC2 (pre-1.05), which is fine. Low health is not a huge concern if the game has recoil and little autoaim. BC2 doesn't have any game breaking mechanics (UC2 with Situational Awareness/KZ3 with wallhack/disguise). It emphasizes teamwork, classes are well thought out, etc. I should go back to it.
Fair enough. Most people in that thread keep throwing "low health" around like its automatically a bad thing, when its not. Its about how the game works around that. But those are fair points. I haven't played the game to make a decision yet but balance does seem like an issue.

Resistance 2 couch co-op. Sure eventually you knew the ins and outs of every level variant but it was unique in that it acknowledged Player 2. Both players had independent progression and it remembered P2 settings. Hope to see more of the same and improvements in R3.

Borderlands too for similar reasons, but loses because it dumps P2 settings. So every time we start, have to reconfig controller.

Warhawk is the most underrated online game i can think of. Great experience, well balanced overall, great Maps, awesome awesome vehicles, great netcode, great community. Where's my fuckin Starhawk!?!?!

killzone2box490w.jpg

Had alot of fun with KZ2, had some class issues, but this is an awesome team shooter with great gunplay and atmosphere, good code.

CoD4_boxart.png

Insane, the amount of hours put in CoD4, the game that gave birth to a whole lot of clone, but no one, even the series own sequels came close to CoD4's Maps, balance and fun.

IMO participially a victim of PS3 launch, RFoM still is one of my favorite FPS' ever. With all the crazy weapons, online was still balanced overall and amazing. Dedicated servers and virtually no lag, great maps and them GAF clan nights :D

uncharted-2-amazon-map-685x385.jpg

Its MP gets overlooked cuz of the awesome SP, but this is a great multiplayer game. Gold rush is some of the best team multiplay i had this gen. Best 3rd person MP shooter out there.

street-fighter-iv-4-game.jpg

Some netcode issues, design decision peevs, but SF4 and SSF4 are my most play online game this gen. A combination of being my favorite gaming series, one of my fav gaming genres, with cool online modes and great great fighting game community on GAF and beyond, my love/hate relation with SF continues

Borderlands
SSF4
Fat Princess
Wii Sports
Mario Kart Wii
House of the Dead Overkill

Edit:

Rockband/2/3 countless hours of local multiplayer

Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Halo: Reach are tops for me, and I'd be trolling if I didn't mention the original Modern Warfare. StarCraft II is also up there, but I haven't played in several months because I was very discouraged the last time I took my game online.

EDIT: How could I have forgotten Borderlands? Three friends and I had an absolute blast playing through that game in co-op.

Gears 1 and 2. My favorite gameplay in a MP. Despite the technical difficulties and the lack of any progression. I played both of these games for more than 500 hours.

COD4 loved everything about that game. Especially the maps. Anyone knows the blogs of any of the level designer that worked on these maps ?

Team Fortress 2 (first online game that I dedicated 1300 hours in one year)
Bad Company 2
Titan Quest (I don't know if it's still this gen, but my gf pick it up, loved it, and we play now all the time online)
Left 4 Dead 1 and 2

Mostly that ones. I'm expecting to play a lot of Magicka and Monday Night Combat in a few months, but... we will see...

Left 4 Dead (PC) - So many great experiences with GAF, Red Scarlet in particular (left handed PC FPS wtffffff lol)
500x_left_4_dead.jpg

All great experiences. Loved every single one of them.

I'm sorry but I can't help but laugh at all the Warhawk mentions.

Mine is Halo 3 and Halo Reach. It's not even close for me.

Only answer for me really. Out of all the games the one that had the most hold on me was this one. Amazing game and I want the Starhawk themed sequel now!!!

COD4
Gears 1 (gears 2 had too many additions, bigger is not always better)
Warhawk
Killzone 2 (at launch)
Uncharted 2 (before the patch)

Gears of War, way back close to launch. I played a bunch of matches with Shawn Elliott and some guys from 1UP. It got hilarious at some points.

I was just playing this in split-screen with my bro the other day. It's my favorite multiplayer experience this gen, with joy levels comparable to a good round of Block Fort in Mario Kart 64 back in the day, but with on-foot and jetpacks and jeeps and tanks and jets and more, hopping out of one and into another, bringing along teammates for the ride, across gorgeously colorful battlefields HUGE in scale and bursting at the seams with detail, 32 players going at it in every direction.

Sadly, after many years of strong community support, it seems the online userbase is dwindling. We're still always able to find a good game, but the options are slimming down. It's high time for Starhawk; once it's announced, it'll probably even boost Warhawk's numbers for awhile as people revisit it in anticipation. :)

Every one of these posts is correct and the rest of you should reflect on what you've done wrong and beg Warhawk's forgiveness.

By far. No other game comes close. I was playing Halo 3 more often than I was playing Reach at this point, I'm sure of it. It's a game that I stuck with and was with me as much in return.

Notable mentions:
– Halo: Reach
– Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
– Call of Duty: Black Ops

It was the single most imaginative, craziest, and fun multiplayer experience I had this generation. Well, at least for the first week it was. It wouldn't have been possible without Plywood and the GAF room however, so shutouts to those guys for one hell of a fun time.

Also I nominate this game for best improvised soundtrack of this generation.

NEVER FORGET

Halo 3: From Big Team Battle to MLG to co-op campaign runs to GAF custom games this was the game that kept on giving. I even found myself inadvertently helping some one propose in a game.

Halo: Reach: GAF team + Noble Map Playlist = epic winning streaks. Oh and that little mode called Firefight is pretty damn good too.

Killzone 2: The nightly GAF games for about the first month were an absolute blast. I love the rotating gametype carousal of Warzone with the great flexibility in classes.

MAG: I can't believe that Zipper actually pulled off 256 people in one match, let alone made it as fun as they did. When put in a good squad, this game is absolutely blissful.

Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter: Maybe my favorite co-op mode ever. You and 15 other humans against at least 40 AI opponents. There is nothing quite like being one of the last few humans left alive knowing that you have 10 other people rooting you on to kill those final 6 enemies.

Wii Sports: I had a bunch of great moments playing this game. My friend TJ and I both completing the trick shot Bowling activity in the same run when no one else of our housemates could get past the 15th stage. Taking on and beating everybody who challenged me in Tennis. Getting through the first 7 holes of Golf with a -10 only to blow it all on the last two holes. Watching my grandfather take on my 6 year old cousin in Boxing.

Honorable Mention

Perfect Dark Zero: In first couple months of the 360, Dark Ops mode was the shit.

Uncharted 2: Me + the FAL = the other team dead.

FIFA 11: I've only played a couple, but GAF clubs are a ton of fun. I need to get on for more.

Gears of War 1 & 2
Halo Reach
COD: Black Ops
COD: MW2
Battlefield 1943
Grant Theft Auto 4
Left 4 Dead 2
Kinect Sports
New Super Mario Bros.

Shadowrun, my favorite multiplayer experience of all time actually. The balance and depth of the game is unmatched on Console and it has one of the most perfectly implemented abilities ever, Teleport.

WARHAWK HANDS DOWN

If you have not played this game for whatever reason be it Console wars or whatever, Just know this... you have missed out on one of the SHINING GEMS of MP. The scale and fun involved with this game has been unmatched as far as Im concerned.

I've played every other MP game worth mentioning. and Nothing compares to Warhawk.
Some games came close especially with games offering a plethora of other features like cinema mode. But Warhawk, stays head and shoulders above the rest, standing on the Foundation of Simply great Game play.

Hats off to you Warhawk.

Team Fortress 2
No question about it! This game changed my attitude towards online fps's in 2007 and it's one of my favorite games ever.

Defiantly a first place tie between Halo 3 and Halo Reach.

Its got a bit of everything from Racing to Zombies to Objective & slayer and everything in between.

Anyone still play this on 360? I remember the game being quite fun.

Yea, there are plenty of regulars that play everyday. Most Pubs are a mix of PC and 360 players, I play Private Matches mostly which are usually just 360 players playing 4v4 gametypes. Either way, there are still games every day and at all times.

Nothing has come close this gen to the fun I had playing MGO. Even with it's shitty netcode, long dual boot time, zero PSN integration, and annoying skill grinding; the game was amazing. There just hasn't been anything else this gen that compares to the experience I had during GAF Survival Mode weekends. Grouping up and getting pumped by listening to the Survival Lobby music blasting away and then the tension that came from trying to keep a winning streak going was so fucking awesome. Crossing my fingers MGS:Rising includes MGO3.

U2 has to be my second favorite mp experience this gen. Love it to pieces, but I wish they would have stuck to their guns and not lowered the health after all the bitching. The game was a lot more fun when you could actually outsmart your opponent by using the layout of the map instead of the ridiculous camping + Situational Awareness that occurred post patch.

My favorite FPS this gen and I love that jumping back into it is so easy.

DCUO deserves an honorable mention. I love what I've played this past month and the game has a lot of potential. If they keep pumping out content for it at a steady pace then I could easily see this becoming one of my favorite games this gen.
