Mine would be Age of Empires II. Playing a match just for fun can be very relaxing! Although I wish I didn't spend so much time just 'chilling-out'. There're so many games I've yet to complete... ^^ ;

As weird as it sounds: It's Dark Souls.

I've probably spent about 1500 hours with that game. I know it like the back of my hand, and it's still fun to go through.

I must have tried any build imaginable by now, but starting from scratch still feels like I'm the underdog in this world of Lordran... even though I basically just walk through anything. It's still a thrill to me to be able to do that.

Probably the first Rome Total War. I can just relax and play and watch a movie or something. Or some other 4x game if I get burned out on TW.

For the longest time it was Oblivion, but then a few years ago I got hooked on Garry's Mod. It's a great sandbox game where you don't have to worry about anything...just wander around different maps and screw around!

Wolfenstein TNO. Duel wielding shotguns on the don't hurt me difficulty or running some rifts in D3.

EA's Skate Series, mostly Skate 3 and now Skater XL. They're games I put on constantly while I'm chilling listening to a podcast or audiobook in the background. You can just zone out and skate around while keeping most of your attention on what you're listening to.

Other than that I'll occasionally boot up Sam & Max: Hit The Road or The Secret of Monkey Island and play through them in one sitting just to see all my favorite scenes again.

Elite Dangerous: Doing passenger or cargo runs with music and a drink is a great wind down in the evening

The lone dark: Just pure escapism from city life, great feeling of being alone from the crowds

Right now it's Forza Horizon 4, such a chill game. In the past it's been games like Hearthstone, MTGA, Diablo 3, Picross (all of the 2D ones) and Picross 3D.

Lately I just do time trials in Grid Autosport. I go sit in the corner somewhere with my switch and go round and round.

One of my favorites would be Mini Metro. Really nice aesthetics, great to just spend even 15 or 20 minutes on it and still be satisfying, and very chill music.

Same.

Between Dark Souls, Dark Souls: Remastered, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC, I've probably put over 2000 hours into the game, platinumed and 100% achievement it on every console except Remastered for the Xbox One. I can go back to it and play it every few months and just love every minute of it.

i don't mean it in a bad way but i can't chill out when playing games. i'm always super focused and determined.

i'd probably go with Persona 5. that shits relaxing

Usually I play 3D platformers or easy 2D platformers with happy themes when I need to chill. Like Mario Sunshine, Banjo & Kazooie some Snes Disney/Capcom games. No emo/edgy and no high brown themes. If they put a weapon in the mascot, like Ratchet and Clank, it is already out of the chill category!

Minecraft.

I'm 35, focus primarily on immersive sims and strategy games, and hadn't played it until a month ago. Watched a video from Vertigo playing it (love his Rust videos) and thought why not?

Still on my first game, and there's just enough mystery and discovery in it that I'm not bored (which happened with NMS after 4 hours and realising there was nothing beneath the procedurally generated surface at the time).

So yeh, Minecraft. Also known to play Civ (various versions) and Football Manager (ditto) the same way.

During my first playthrough, I really didn't do many of the Mementos. Mainly because navigating them not that entertaining, and the background music (while excellent otherwise) can get very irritating to me very fast.

Getting to the bottom of the Mementos to finish the story was anything but relaxing.

Driveclub + Spotify does it for me. It has a simple and yet very satisfying handling scheme, and every track is a joy to look at.
And +1 for No Man's Sky, that's the quintessential chill out game.

Hunting side quest in Yakuza games and in The Witcher 3 is also a good, satisfying low-effort affair.

Warframe. Superb gameplay, I'm deeply invested (time wise) at MR27 and even though I have most of the things available in the game there's always something I can casually grind towards to.

Minecraft is perfect for this. Tending to my gardens, farm animals, or just exploring my world, among a billion other things in this world simulator, couldn't be much more zen. Bonus props to the visuals, while being simple, for really conveying beautiful atmosphere well — walking along in the rain, or watching the stars at night can be the most peaceful, immersive moments.

OP of course, nailed it with Breath of the Wild, where I feel like I can get lost in the world, just looking at his screenshot.

I also expect this to deliver. ❤

I bought Minecraft when it was in alpha. Back when Notch live streamed the development but i've lost that login. I was looking to get it recently but it's far more expensive and there are many different versions. I suppose the price hike is because of it's popularity and hopefully lots of extra content added since the alpha but what version should i go for? How does the switch version compare to the pc version?

Also, Animal Crossing rocks!
