Card is pretty well known for his homophobic views.
First I've heard it but I bought his books from the bookstore on a whim and never ventured into his history.
Good one. The sad irony is that he's now an actual case of edgy humour being used for irony purposes (primarily in his general aesthetic), vs all the milkshake ducks out there. So it's easy to lump him into the wrong crowd before realising he is basically against everything that crowd stands for.
I'm really glad that Jim does what he does. I appreciate his reviews too but the commentary on industry bs with his various personas tend to add or startup discussion. I find the smaller gestures endearing too, like when he re-uploaded that video a few weeks back to erase a contact email because people were A) being hateful and B) not even realizing that they were spamming the devs who Jim was defending. He gave those people shit for a while.
Poppy android girl having alt-right ties and Ace of Base having low key white nationalist lyrics are defo some of those unexpected milkshake ducks.
What's that about? (Poppy being alt-right)
Not the same but
Louis Rossmann is low key libertarian.
It definitely isn't the same but I've noticed that too. Eli the computer guy kinda gives off that vibe too, though his content is pretty easy to pass on based on its content alone. ('Make a video every day even if you can't find a good topic' turns out to be really hit or miss.)
To buck the trend of this thread a bit, I'd like to nominate someone from the left side of politics: Cenk from The Young Turks.
The sheer amount of conspiracy theories, denialism and straight up economic ignorance they spread in the name of liberalism is fucking nuts. They're barely journalists to begin with and they regularly discuss Trump's attacks on fake news with exactly zero self-awareness. They're the same breed of personality/pundit driven media bubbles that other anti-establishment whackos like Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones occupy.
Not a milkshake duck for me personally but my mom watched their stuff for a few weeks. I really can't stand their stuff. Nothing ever seems to have a grey area with him.
Yeah, he's a huge Trump stan
He's probably my milkshake duck. I used to really like Dilbert
Damn.
As I said in the Robinson thread, I'm just waiting for everyone involved with video games without actually being involved in the dev process to be secretly awful except, ironically, Jim Sterling. And probably Continue?, Retsupurae, or Super Bunnyhop. I'm, like, 99% certain Dunkey's going to get in a controversy soon.
Why Dunkey? Is it because he's buds with Ethan (h3) and Jontron? I feel like I'm missing some context.
Has James Rolfe (AVGN?) ever really had a milkshake duck moment?
Quality of his videos aside, he seems to be the one YouTube star who has avoided drama despite being around so long and seemingly starting the whole "hot takes" genre---I don't recall him particularly taking a side during GamerGate, which might bother some people since you could see him as ignoring the issue, but as far as I know he's never gone on record with any extremely offensive statements has he? I mean poop and over-the-top shit jokes, but nothing outright sexist or racist?
I'm about 99% sure Rolfe doesn't even pay attention to things like gamer-gate. Sometimes it seems like he doesn't even play video games or even know whats going on when it comes to the Internet.
I kinda hope you're right. I've watched his stuff off and on since it was part of ScrewAttack on GameTrailers.
I stopped fucking with H3H3 as soon as Ethan started talking about the "SJWs" in every video.
Him being silent during the JonTron thing sealed the deal for me.
I had to stop watching him after, like you said, he gave his platform to awful people. He grew his bran on just making silly videos and calling out shitty people, but then he started to just be friends and allow these shitty people to spread their shittiness, and would either not call out his friends or would defend them.
Ethan now is the type of person Ethan would've made a video about 2 years ago.
He seems to be trying to host both sides by inviting the shitty people (he used to call out) directly to his podcast. The silence re: Jon is also bad even though Jon was the one who gave them their start (by hiring Hila as a video editor). I'm still (barely) on the fence with them but they've been getting worse for a while.
Sigh, yes. Though, I loved him first in Chuck. He played the same type of guy too.
I liked Casey a lot, my parents did too. Sucks that he's a GG'er.
Just thought of a good one - Dr. Seuss. He cheated on his cancer-ridden wife who already had a history of mental illness and depression until she eventually killed herself. Bad form, Ted.
He also produced racist propoganda against the Japanese during WW2.
There's been a few milkshake duck moments for me lately:
- Laci Green - I loved her work on feminism and her critques were interesting. But as soon as she got "red-pilled" I just saw her betraying her ideals for the sake of support from the community that ripped into her for years. Damned shame.
Did this come out of her starting to date that alt-right-rumored guy Chris ray gun? Hadn't heard about it.
do you think the mods change the title of the thread to read "(Milkshake Duck incarnate)" for no specific reason? i'll even do the legwork for you, enjoy.

Damn, this game had a great art style too.
L. Frank Baum
Creator of The Wizard of Oz
Called for the genocide of Native Americans
Yeah.
I've been a big Oz fan ever since I was little. When I stumbled upon that bit of info maybe 2 years ago, I was completely floored.
L. Frank Baum Advocated Extermination Of Native Americans

Damn, this thread is informative but disheartening.
Thanks for bringing a little humor to the thread, that fits pretty well.
Edit: Apologies for the length of this post, I just wanted to reply to a bunch of people itt and squashed it into one post.
