Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward ("Good People Die") - US 3DS/Vita release, fall

I don't want to risk losing the story progress, so someone tell me which to pick!

I'm about to do Playthrough #3, aiming for the Axe ending. Then I'll go for Safe ending, then True ending.

I'm pretty sure you can't lose any progress you've made unless you intentionally delete your data from the options menu.

Yeah after you beat the game, they both work. Start with Memories is used if he chose something he already did and wanted to restart with previous unlocked endings intact.

So to clarify:

If you've cleared the game and want to start a new game with the endings you've already unlocked, you can use either Start with Memories or Continue.

If you've started a game and saved, but mess up and decide to start over but don't want to lose the endings you've unlocked, use Start with Memories.

I suspect you're right. I'll go with "Start with memories" since, well, I have two endings worth of memories so far, so seems explicit enough.

SHOCKING memories, I must add!

Like, I expectd the LOST logo to spin onto the screen, or Sixth Sense/Signs-era M. Night to do the "twist" handclap. SO GOOD.

...

Hold me.

Ah! OK. Well, since I'm back at Square One anyways, I guess either will work. Thanks!

I... I don't understand. :-\ There's no "top, left, right, and bottom," just a top and bottom on the left side of the brain, and a top and bottom of the right side...

If you could clarify further, that'd be great. I understand either way, though, and appreciate your answer. :)

My Fault, I'm thinking of a completely different puzzle.

That one's pretty easy, you just have to see what switch turns on what lights. But yeah, just experimenting is probably the fastest way to beat it.

The
Axe
ending is comparatively straightforward, but still pretty brick-shitting.
Safe
will make you cry manly tears, though.

And True... well, I'm looking forward to your reaction to True. :)

I kind of hate you guys for not assuring me this game ultimately has a happy ending
for at least Junpei and June, or ideally all of the characters
. But at the same time, I understand the whole "better not to spoil" business. Bah!

Hmm... I should probably eat something...

This game is so great. Good thing I had the wisdom to buy it from the start without needing GAF to push me!

...heh.

Oh so fun to read your reactions :)

Makes me very happy that you decided to play 999 before VLR too ;)

Waiting for the beast of a post for his response to the true ending.

Once he's done with everything, he should definitely go to the 999 spoiler thread to gush :D

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=417566

Don't enter there until you've cleared all of 999 though!

I better be gushing about how happy I am that everything works out for June and Junpei in the true ending and they have happy lil' flannel- and hoodie-clad babies that get feverish and have penchants for bad puns.

Otherwise the only thing I will be gushing is blood.

I'll probably need to make a spoiler thread banner of sorts in addition to the VLR thread. Hms. HMS. I hope assets get released soon! :D

We'll talk about this once you beat it all.

Wait, you're going for the
Axe
ending now?

Have fun.

You know, the wait to see Neiteio's reaction after seeing all of the endings is almost as unbearable as the wait for VLR itself. The fact that 999 makes you feel so compelled to talk about it's storyline shows just how much of an impact it actually has.

Just finished the game for the first time and had
the knife ending
Unfortunately, a dumbass spoiled me
Zero true identity...
but whatever, Ill replay the game to unlock others endings.

Can't wait for the game, first one was an amazing story experience. Quick question though regarding whether I should go for the 3DS or the Vita version to those who have already played the japanese version (and caution, serious 999 spoilers follow)
- you know the way how the final puzzle used both screens to get across a major plot point? without spoiling too much for me, are there any moments like that in the sequel, where hardware-specific features are used? because if there are, that might secure my decision to get the 3ds version over the vita version (which is my current plan, but just wanted to double-check)

In any case, really looking forward to this, one of the most exciting IPs this gen

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.

If it helps, I've read that the 3DS version is the lead platform...

I know what you'll be gushing for when you finish.

VLR

Question for those who played Virutes Last Reward in japanese...
How does it stand compared to 999 ? Is it as good ? Or better ?
Also, is that true that the 3DS version has compressed sound ? Based on the demo, it was compared to the Vita demo... but I heard it was because the demo was really compressed.

HAHAHAHAAA!! XD

Just picked a different choice for the dialogue tree when June's nervous about going in the elevator.

I swear I had to keep putting down the system to laugh, tears in the corners of my eyes. It just kept going -- so great! XD

Tears, eh? Well, as long as you didn't get wet... down there.

Man, I remember that exact scene. I had a good laugh when I chose that dialog option and saw the consequences unfold.

And soon, so will you...

MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAA
Man, your GIF shenanigans are great. The reindeer, Grinch, and now this -- three for three, my friend! XD

I just did the puzzle where you
input the ship log directions at the steering wheel and the handle came off
. Battery's red, so must recharge! Taking a break for now. :)

The wailing sirens and guitar riff of another BAD END in 999 -- the axe ending -- are playing in my headphones as I type this:

HOLY SHIT ON A POGO STICK!!!

*glances at VLR preview in Nintendo Power*

But Clover... Clover's in the next game...

WHAT IS GOING ON???

*dives into Playthrough #4, heading for Safe ending*

*still shaking*

*SHAKING HARD*

And just think, those were all the "bad" endings. The stuff that's coming up is incredible.
WHARAHAHAHA

*runs up wall, across ceiling, and down opposite wall*

This is the first game I've played in this genre (visual novel/graphic adventure/escape puzzle), so this is all quite mindblowing to me!!

The elevator scene is one of the best scenes in gaming i've expierenced in quite some time.

I still laugh reading it on multiple playthroughs.

Welcome to one the best and most underrated genres in video games, especially in the west. Once you finish 999, there are plenty more amazing adventure games wanting to be played.

lololol love this thread.

Axe ending is my favorite non-true ending. >:3

Also, that elevator scene was so damn good that I just had to record it and throw it on YouTube.

Just cleared the intro cabin on Playthrough #4. Ohboyohboyohboyherewegoagain!

Wait a sec...

If Clover killed me in the Axe ending... Who killed Clover in the Sub ending... And who stabbed my ass in the Knife ending?

It'll get explained and when you find out it's awesome.

That's an excellent series to continue with. Every game is worthwhile, though I highly suggest you play them in release order.

Afterward there are some other great titles available in English...
Trace Memory (DS)
Hotel Dusk (DS)
Another Code R (Wii, PAL Only)
Last Window (DS, PAL Only)
Jake Hunter Detective Story: Memories of the Past (DS)
Ghost Trick (DS)
Prof. Layton series (DS/3DS)
Hakuoki (PSP)

(The first four games are a sort of series as well.)

Plus some other good adventure games, though not as amazing as the ones above...
Time Hollow (DS)
Touch Detective series (DS)
Flower, Sun, and Rain (DS)
Disgaea Infinite (PSP)

Then of course VLR...

I love how on each playthrough so far I uncover at least two new rooms. :)

Just went through Door 5,
which is quite interesting since I finally get to examine the Ninth Man's remains and I'm with Snake, to boot, a character that I never got to spend much time with in the other playthroughs...

Definetly going to be picking those up once my well of games starts to dry up on DS.

Also I found this when looking around.
I've never heard of it (While i've heard of everything else you mentioned at least once).
The reviews are good and i'm quite curious (On amazon anyway).

It was even worse for me, because due to some unique circumstances, I stayed at college for Thanksgiving. Just imagine being the only person on campus at school up in the forests of Northern New England with

To be honest,
DAT CLOVER FACE was kind of hot, and apparently Junpei thought the same to get axed the way he did!

Just did the casino. My handy flowchart says the next few rooms should be familiar, so I have a feeling I'll reach the Safe ending in an hour or two...

It's quite near and dear to Ben/Belisarius's heart, so you should definitely try it out!

Especially if you like a visual novel with a detective setting :)

Ha! I was fucking terrified, even when I got the good endings I was wary.

Reading Neiteio's impressions bring back great memories of this game. I've never played anything with an atmosphere so tense, and I was so excited to find out the truth I played through all endings in two days. I'm gonna wait a few years for my memory to be sufficiently foggy and replay it all again.

It's at a cheap price, so im going to add it to my wish list of things to buy on amazon.
I really can't get enough of these visual novels.
