It looks like she lost some weight, had some shitty hair and makeup done and got hit with some bright camera flashes.

Lost some weight, possibly using botox, less makeup around the eyes, no bangs. (in the op)
She's lost weight and has different eye makeup. I suspect she lost weight because whilst her face was cute she may have been unhappy with the rest of her body. That's the rub, when I'm at a healthy body fat level people tell me my face looks gaunt. Age exacerbates the effect.

Haha, see what I mean about me thinking she looks like her mother? People are always amazed at the Twin Peaks thing when I mention it. The wife didn't believe me when I had her watch Twin Peaks last year (she's a big Zooey fan). It's as clear as the nose on my face to me, even looking at a recent picture of Mary Jo Deschanel. I think it's something in the eyes that makes them look so similar to me.

The difference is really in the eyes. They don't look as wide - almost like she's squinting.
Elf was my first exposure to her and I was swooning <3
