Go PSP!! Next week it could gain the lead.

Regarding the Vita, I don't see it dropping below 30k next week. There is a small chance it could have a small bump, well not too much past 40k. It may not be getting exclusives this week but it is getting quality multiplats and a port. Konami Baseball Spirits 2013(too bad Japan didn't win the WBC), One Piece Kaizoku Musou 2, and DOA5+. Of course these are not system sellers, but they can be what pushes someone who is on the fence to buy a vita. But in 2 weeks.... It doesn't look too good for the vita with no games for quite a stretch. Will the decline be quick or will it be more gradual?

I just hope it doesn't drop like it did after P4G and Hatsune Miku.

I know it's probably been asked before but which tracker is the most accurate?

Not Dengeki.

...

...

...

Okay, for reals, both MC and Famitsu have had to do their own retcons. MC tracked GameCube higher than its shipments, tracked DQVII higher than its shipments, and retroactively reduced SSBM by ~200K because they had it too high. Famitsu had to go back and up a lot of Nintendo games from the late 90s, most notably Pokemon R/G/B, to make them "fit." (Weekly sales vs. yearly Top 100 comparison are a hoot for some games.) Currently, they are both considered about the same accuracy, and I think they both have like ~60% of the market covered. That's going to lead to some discrepancies and for a system like PSP that's over 8 years olds, small systemic discrepancies can add up over a long time.

Wow, I had no idea SAO was hated so much. I only watched the first few episodes of the anime and thought it was OK. :/

First few episodes are perfectly tolerable and actually interesting in spots. From there on it gets significantly worse on an almost episode to episode basis and by the time you're deep into it every little moment is like nails on a chalk board. I think it's actually insulting to Twilight to compare the two.

I think it mostly has to do with whether someone has the failing console or not. if you own and enjoy Vita your blinders will be up to the reality of the situation.

I'd argue that Vita is in a worse situation today than it was 3 weeks ago. the hail mary that was SS is now in the past.
How was the Vita in a better situation before Soul Sacrifice?

I'm not saying that's how it is [for the 3DS, in Japan] but how many third parties did well when sales were at the initial 3DS baseline like the comment I was replying to was talking about.

Well, actually, Tales of the Abyss did fairly well, as well as One Piece and Dead Survivor OverClocked. Launch titles performed well in general, with Samurai Warriors, Winning Eleven, Street Fighter and Ridge Racer all crossing 100k units. Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D sold very well.

If you look at the Vita in a rather twisted way.
I kinda get what he means, that now the big game has been released, so whats next. But it sounds a bit strange to say it like that, in my opinion. It is like saying that the WiiU is an better position now because the games hasnt been released yet.

it still had its cards to play
But the cards needs to be played to have effect. The cards werent played, that is why the Vita sold bad. It is the exact same situation with the WiiU. It has cards to be played, but i wont say that the WiiU is an better position right now compared to when the games gets released.

Well, even though I don't really agree with the post we're referencing, regarding the Wii U at least, I would say if its upcoming trump cards fail to ignite interest (Pikmin 3 and Mario Kart, for example -- not Game & Wario), then it will indeed be in a pretty horrible situation down the line. Arguably worse than now.

What other cards? Honest question. Soul sacrifice, price drop, bundles, hatsune miku, phantasy star online 2, gravity daze has all dropped by already.

Dont tell me fantasies like monster hunter 3ds port.

Reading. You're doing it wrong. He's saying it was in a better position prior to SS because it still had cards to play then. Now it doesn't and the impact of those big cards has, so far, been minimal.

Revision, further price drop, e3 game announcements. Also, you misunderstood his post.

Pretty good yeah, thanks for the info. I guess at the time people might have been more worried about the Vita affecting third parties then.

My god, AC:NL has a 26 week lead over WW. My god.

From a totally dispassionate view, maybe, but we don't completely check our passions at the door, just because we're talking about sales, even though most try to not let their emotions get in the way of discussion. We're more than automatons discussing dry numbers. We discuss because we care about the subject matter, so that's going to seep in to how we feel about the results and how we post.

Sales-agers are also human!! snif..

(quoting both since i have basically the same answer to both)

Yeah, i was pretty sure that is what he ment, that now the big game for Vita is out, so whats next for it :) So i see his point in that regards, i mostly wanted to ask so he could elaborate a bit more on it.

But the Vita has increased the hardware sales, more people own the hardware now which means more potential consumers to buy software. It has also sold more than what many here expected. As of this date, i'd say that the Vita is definitelly in a better position than before. How it will contunie to sell is anyone's guess though, but i feel that the outlook is better now than before.

If anything, i'd say that the Vita situation wont be any worse than before, but equally bad might not be completely out of the picture. It wasnt like the future for the Vita was any brighter before.

I can't get rid of the feeling that Vita is in the same kind of trouble than 3 or 4 weeks ago. It has dropped quite substantially and will probably drop 10-20% the next week. And it seems like most of the stuff that could push its hardware sales have happened for the moment. So, just playing devils advocate... what could Sony possibly do if Vitas sales pattern follow sth. like 36k (week of this thread) -> 30k -> 25k -> 22k -> 19k -> 16k?

So in last 3 weels Vita:
sold 150k consoles (10% of existing userbase up to that point)
moved nearly 400k games (compared to 2100k yearly total in 2012)
had something like 250-300k downloads of F2P PSO2
got 5 new titles annouced (3 being Vita only not ports)

and somehow it's in worse position ?

Vita is having supply constraint issue in Japan (quite surprising).
I don't think Sony would increase production numbers, because..

Why not increase production? Revision? PS4 time would be good. If they have some new big game announcements at E3 (don't drop the ball Sony) then I especially wouldn't be surprised if there was a revision this year.

If anything, i'd say that it could reach the same position as before, but i dont think it is possible to get worse. Its not like the Vita sales were going anywhere positive before the release of Soul Sacrifice and the pricedrop. If Soul Sacrifice didnt excist and the pricedrop didnt happen, the Vita would probably just head one way anyway (downwards).

If Soul Sacrifice and the pricedrop has little to no effect in the long run, the Vita will just go back to where it was before, but that is more of an equal situation, not worse.

If you live in Japan and see game stores you should easily tell how Vita is treated differently before and after the price cut, especially from audiences going for post-PSP device (high school dudes mostly). So it is quite puzzling why Sony isn't shipping them.
Revision is quite possible considering how Sony is currently prohibiting full clockspeed.
(I don't know if the die size reduction would help the battery life).

That's what i imagine it will happen too. Luigi's mansion 2 will force this scenario to happen. It will be a gradual drop, and i think the baseline sales will only surface 3 or 4 weeks later.

And what are expectations for Game and Wario?

Wait for FFX-2 HD!

We have already some reports of Luigi's Mansion 2 explosive sales.

According to GamesMaya a clear Victory for Luigi's Mansion against One Piece 2 in his store.

Azalyn reported higher sales than New Super Mario 2 in his store.

IMPOSSIBLE! Some people on Gaf told me that DMC didn't sell well cause the Japanese were racist or something as oppose to removing everything associated with the DMC brand from the game! GAF SAID!

Luigi's Mansion 2 with explosive opening and Nintendo legs= potential million seller?

Interesting stuff. I could see a Next Level team being founded to churn out more should Dark Moon be the success that it seems to be lining up as.
