I always do.

Merkel, Macron, and May are all fiscally conservative, what am I missing? Germany was the one responsible for pushing austerity so hard back in 2008 all across Europe. Macron just replaced a socialist president and promises tax cuts and less spending. May is a true believer conservative who wants to gut the government.
Do Merkel, Macron, and May want to take healthcare away from tens of millions of people? And make it worse for everyone else? Just so the wealthy can get another tax cut?

When you threaten lives what exactly do you expect? You think people are just going to sit by and be okay with losing family members and friends because we need bigger tax breaks for the rich?

Dude/maam.. I've seen people that survived cancer, who never had insurance, due to obamacare. Hate obamacare because it's obamacare.

If it's spun in the white way, I fear even if people are dying they'll blame isis and Mexicans. Even though it's all Republicans...

That's my fear when this passes.

the definition of a con artist is fooling people into thinking they are working for you. Hate to say but people will die because they got conned by that orange bafoon. People are going to fucking die w/ out obamacare

This assumes people are putting the blame on the right people, and this is what scares me the most. I look at the date on this bill for when shit actually starts being cut and it's going to trick the right into thinking the Republicans didn't do this. We live in a time where the spin is impossible to avoid, and even personally I know I've fallen for alot of it. This is what scares me the most on this.

I want to believe you so badly, and most of the shit I can say is purely anecdotal but I do not have the faith that our government gives the slightest of shit or that those people will get the chance to make the change they need to. The people are who protesting are not the people that usually get elected because they do not have the money nor the influence. What I'm saying isn't a knock against those people, hell I'm one of those people. But I'm cynical, I'm mad as hell and certainly am not defeatist because I want to reclaim my country but I don't believe the methods we are doing or have right now are working and I don't know what could either.
I mean, all we can do is keep the heat on. We have our tools and even in the darkest night we have our collective strength and voice. Even if everything fails and nothing goes our way, they can't take away that. Which makes it very powerful, even though it may seem like it isn't.

Amen to that, I'd rather die a fool believing we can fix this world then live watching it falls apart and picking up the pieces.

Some people in this thread scare me. The "big three" western European nations, France, UK, and Germany, have all voted to be conservative and their societies haven't collapsed yet. Also, your vote still works. As I recall, Obama won four years ago.

What is this alternate reality you're living in?

Just send him the PM and then post whatever he sends you in the thread.

Surprise surprise, he got banned for derailing a thread and is trying to hide behind GAF's moderation policy to avoid taking responsibility for his posts.

Homeboy talks a whole bunch of shit but when it comes time to produce receipts he runs and hides behind "You can't talk about moderation!".

I wouldn't be surprised if this forum gets investigated at some point if posts like this keep being made. Especially after a real human being actually did shoot members of congress only days ago.

Elections have consequences. It wasn't even 10 years ago when Democrats controlled all branches of government and you're acting like you're the oppressed people of fucking Tibet.

What does your senator have to do with gerrymandering?

I, and people talking about a boiling point, are not advocating violence.

But desperate people make desperate decisions. The GOP is making life more desperate for anyone who isn't absurdly rich.

I mean, consider the copycat threats the same day of the shooting last week: one person who threatened a Republican senator's life literally used the AHCA as the reason these people have sold out the public for the rich and have lost any semblance of humanity. This isn't some cooky internet plan: people in this very country literally feel this way. You know, the same country where there are a crazy amount of firearms...

In fact, why not read his words, as he did this via email?

"Did you NOT expect this? When you take away ordinary peoples very lives in order to pay off the wealthiest among us, your own lives are forfeit. Certainly, your souls and morality were lost long before. Good riddance"

We should always expect reason to win over futility and violence, but this depends on the parties at play actually starting out within reason. The GOP has become a party of death for the average American, so we quickly fall into concerns of futility and breakdown as they bomb the social lives of the regular people they represent.

The GOP is playing with a bomb, and they are likely to accidentally pull the pin themselves.

When Noam Chomsky calls the GOP the most dangerous organization in world history, why is it every week his words get a bit more weight to them? It sounds hyperbolic, but look at what they're trying to get away with. The AHCA is a literal heist against the American people.

Here's hoping this reduces my employer offered plan prices - or at least slows the rate in which they have been increasing.
If that happens I'll vote for the guy. If that doesn't happen then I'll feel robbed.

Single payer is the endgame but anything that reduces my burden in the meantime is a-ok.

"Can't stump the diablos" indeed. To play devils advocate, you have a point here.

I always knew that Obamacare wouldn't be sustainable in the long run anyways, not that the Trumpcare plan seeks to solve Obamacare's problems (rather it makes them worse) but in lets just say I am glad to be living in Canada at the moment.

If there's one thing I know about America is that we always land on our feet. We knew this was coming so lets chin up and be optimistic. Onwards we march!

Well that ban text sure is something...

It's really got nothing to do with the current poltical state of affairs in this country, though, which is why I find it odd.

I asked why he seemed to be feeling vindicated by Trump's victory and this was his response. As if that somehow spoke for everyone that ever criticized Bernie.

So, their shitty political stance boils down to some fucking Internet forum beef?

Talk about some next level petty bullshit.

"Hey Grandma, I know you're dying but please take solace in the fact that Unknown Soldier got to smugly chuckle at their computer knowing that they got the last laugh over a shitty ban."

The only purity test that happened in 2016 was "get in line and support Hillary OR ELSE" and that didn't go over very well with leftist liberals who can think for themselves.
I don't think you understand what a purity test is.

Really the people in this thread still insisting that they were right to not vote for Hillary in the GE is fucking depressing. Spin it how you want but you inadvertently helped cause this shitshow.

The sad part is they'd still blame the democrats.

And the blacks, and the Mexicans, and the *insert group that is discriminated here*.

I voted for Sanders for the same reason many of us did, but I also voted for Hillary because no matter where you stood on her policies she was RUNNING AGAINST DONALD TRUMP! You do not throw me or any other Bernie supporters under this boat, you do not speak for any of us or hell even Sanders himself. You know the guy who told us to vote for Hillary! I'm not gonna deny there was some bullshit during the election but to everyone goddamn one of you who decided not to vote because "my guy didn't win" you gave us this. You are just as bad as a trump supporter to me, actually, you might even be worse. You saw everything he did and knew what he was but you didn't want to vote because a woman had some leaked emails and she wasn't progressive enough. I'm not saying it's entirely your faults but own your shit, because I can tell you right now if Hillary was president my mornings would be me talking about video games all day and only watching the news once a week.

If you really want to destroy the country in a flame deluge and kill people because we gave some tax breaks to some rich people... actually, please don't.

UK conservative and US conservative are two entirely different beasts.

I expect that it will be a litmus test of whose side they are on.

I asked politely that it not be shared. It's clear who the real villains are here on this forum.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
I love how Unknown has been doing the same thing since after the primaries and finds that it is some big conspiracy on GAF that derailing threads intentionally gets you a ban.

This, and the comparison also applies to the left- Jeremy Corbyn is NOT the UK Bernie Sanders (though I admire and respect both!), Corbyn is like actually left while Sanders is a remnant of the new-deal era.

Did I miss something or is this still not expected to pass the Senate?

No one knows. It's not a foregone conclusion. But from another perspective, health care investors are betting that it won't pass.

WSJ:
It is safe to say the protesters weren’t representing owners of health-care stocks. The Health Care Select Sector Index ripped higher once again following the act’s late morning release and has now returned more than 17% this year.

That is odd. Should this bill become, law, drug, hospital and insurer stockholders would likely make some noise of their own. The Senate bill, much like the version which cleared the House last month, contemplates deep, albeit gradual, cuts to Medicaid funding, which would likely lower total health spending.
The Senate bill phases out Medicaid funds more gradually than the House plan, but would ultimately result in deeper cuts over the long term.
Investors are betting—reasonably—that the bill won’t pass the Senate and become law. After all, Republicans hold just a two-seat majority in the Senate, and recent polling suggests the bill’s provisions are significantly less popular than the ACA. The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that at least six Senate Republicans have expressed reservations about the bill’s contents. Should those reservations turn into actual votes against the bill, the sector’s rally could continue.

So with all the people that disagree with what is happening, what is actually being done about it? I mean beside the collective online outrage.

The hero we deserve ladies and gentlemen, do you read what you write mate! Or is your goal to double down on everyone's perception of Bernie supporters because if so you are doing a wonderful job. I mean people are going to die, but it's okay because you really got to stick it those people who voted against trump right!

Fuck all because our only option is calling our senators which doesn't do anything unless we actually vote. But still that's our option, and that's what we have to do.

That's the pettiest shit I have seen in a long time. People's lives are affected in drastically negative ways and all this guy cares about is sticking it to those who voted not to have their lives ruined. Yikes.

This is strange because you are the ones who are letting people get hurt by allowing Trump to be elected? These arguments are so hilarious because none of this would have happened if it was someone else going against Trump who actually had a chance of beating him. I'm not going to claim 100% that anybody, Bernie or otherwise, could have beaten Trump. But everyone was yelling their warnings about Hillary and the Hillary supporters just ignored them and proceeded with their coronation. Your support for Hillary is as much the cause of the current state of affairs as anything I could have done. Which is nothing, actually. I could not have and did not do anything in the end, because I had no say in the election. I was in a state which has gone Blue for the last 32 years (Washington) so it's even more amusing that people think I could have influenced the election's results in any way besides wishing I could hate Trump to death.

I'm not sure what's worse, the delusion needed to think Bernie would have easily won or blaming Hillary supporters for Trump winning, as if it wasn't Bernie's fault that he lost in the primaries.

And still bringing it months and months later in unrelated threads.

And the blacks, and the Mexicans, and the *insert group that is discriminated here*.

Yup. I think most of the posters here would rather be able to be carefree and not having to preoccupy their thoughts with important, pressing developments such as these. That's how complacency takes root. On one hand, it pisses you off when you've got people who are complacent, but at the same time, it's sometimes an envious place to be. And the idealist in me feels that people shouldn't have to be thinking about these things 24/7, but the sad reality is that there are shitty people in the world who do shitty things. Those are the kind of people I can sympathize with. But the Bernie Bros? Fuck em. These people did know what was at stake and stayed home despite it all, which to me is the progressive version of I got mine, fuck everyone else.

Now that I have seen the beef I can say that it is in fact unwarranted and that even people who voted for Bernie in the primaries got sick of him being brought up 24/7 in unrelated threads.

The fact is the vast majority of Bernie supporters voted for Hillary in the general election because they are reasonable people. Some people just can't take an L.

I have to get out of this thread, there's no way I'm not going to get banned for the things I want to say right now. All I'll say is this has been utterly pitful and I am embarrassed for my country right now.

More people in this country wanted Hillary to be president.

She had a chance. Factually. She received more votes. She lost because of Trump's bullshit rhetoric/straight-up lying in a select few states. (And also, you know, the blatant racism that his supporters are okay with.)

So yes, she had a chance. But then she lost. After being fucking demonized as a criminal.

Trump was a movement that transcends who his competition was. If the Access Hollywood tape didn't end him, Bernie sure as hell wasn't going to.

Did you miss the protesters being carried out of their fucking wheelchairs by the police today?

And 43 arrested.

WaPo: Disability advocates arrested during health care protest at McConnell’s office
Dozens of people protested the newly proposed Republican health-care legislation outside the Capitol Hill office of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) on Thursday — a demonstration that resulted in the arrest of 43 disability advocates.

U.S. Capitol Police spokeswoman Eva Malecki said officers warned the demonstrators to “cease their unlawful activities” or risk being arrested. Those who did not comply were arrested and charged with crowding and obstructing.

The protest, organized by the disability advocacy organization ADAPT, was intended to pressure McConnell and other Republicans not to cut Medicaid funding.

The protesters staged a “die-in” in front of the office, with many of the protesters in wheelchairs removing themselves from the chairs then lying on the floor.
