i hate storyline missions where it asks you to ship hundreds of items that would take like 15 trips to do. so annoying

Industrial with expanded cargo holds and cargo rigs. Training at least to at least 3 or 4 of whatever race's industrial can be invaluable at times, no matter what you normally do. I believe the Amarr Bestower is still the base (not counting any skills) best one.

Looking at trying this game for the first time, anything I need to know? Read a few wikis etc and watched a few videos, will it satisfy my Elite/Frontier love? Played a few MMOs but i like the idea of a space based mmo, and plus with Dust 514 on the PS3 thought it might be a cool adition to my gaming.

Smallios, i think the best thing to do is just jump in. The tutorial they have is quite good.

If you use that link and sign up after, I can help you out with couple of hundred of million isk. And if you're interested, invite to my corp

lost my corax today.

after cleaning a rat nest got a message for an instance/secret mission. i warped there hoping for good loot and got DESTROYED in 15 seconds by the mobs. 70% of my isk went into outfitting that Corax and it blew up with quite a load of loot i had been amasing from mob and missions.

so sad. it was this one: http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Guristas_Scout_Outpost

Didn't know you could escalate into that one. You can find it through exploration otherwise.

Anyway you died because you were doing something intended for Battlecruisers (or very well fit/T2/T3 smaller ships). A T1 destroyer didn't have much chance - they have paper thin tanks. You should have been in a cruiser at least.

Anyway, without getting into further detail about what you did wrong…

I feel bad for you since if you actually had been able to clear that site, you could have had a drop possibly worth hundreds of millions of ISK, with a good chance of one worth 25mil+.

You really should get in the habit of dropping off loot at a base station, and then take it all to sell at a trade hub once you reach a critical mass, rather than carrying it around with you everywhere.

Now if 1-2million really is a lot for you, I can spot you some ISK to get you back on your feet. Millions for me can be measured in a matter of minutes, rather than hours.

I would definitely recommend doing missions rather than just random anomalies though, particularly in high-sec. Over time the amount of steady ISK you'll make will increase as you unlock and do higher level missions. Anomalies will remain relatively stagnant.

Thanks, just used your buddy invite think you get something out of it if i join up? Anyway I'll see how i get on.

yeah I get a plex, which gets me a free month. However, I'm just gonna sell that and split the money with you. So we both win ^_^.

My recommendation when starting is to initially do the tutorials. All of them. It'll give u a good crash course to the game. and then train your skills specifically for what you want to do. mining, industrial, fighting, etc. there's a lot of skills, so it's hard to be jack of all trades unless you've been playing for years.

So focus on a role, and train towards that. if you hate it, then switch.

If you do sign up, I recommend looking at htis http://www.markeedragon.com/catalog/buyEve_Online_Commissioned_Officer_Edition.html.

The most important thing there is the cerebral implant, which will make skill training in your first 35 days super fast

Guristas Scout Outpost has a chance of dropping a Pithum C-Type Medium Shield Booster, which is worth roughly 300 mil. That's the best case scenario, but there's a lot in-between that.

WOAH WHAT

dude, i had someone in chat help me with it and he said he would split the loot 50 50.

2 of those dropped!

he gave me 20M for everything :C (which i promptly lost by buying a gas mining skill book by mistake and losing it)

Also i've had this mission thing pop up at lest twice before. all that stuff wasted cause i never knew. this is just more indication i need to join a corp and get out of the npc one.

Yeah...

Basically don't trust anyone. You got taken advantage of.

Less than one week now for Battlecruisers V. Gonna be nice to get that out of the way. It's definitely in my top two or three longest, if not the longest train I've had. Will probably toss Destroyers V on right after to get it out of the way as well.

Not sure exactly what I want to work on after that though. Probably build up my armor tanking and gunnery skills, max a frigate for covert ops ships, and then start on other tech 2 frigates and cruisers, like assault ships.

i joined brave newbies when it was on its 2nd day.

day 8 and we've already been featured in the developer blog, have 1000 members, caused 30B worth of damage with only 13B incurred to us, and have a new war declare every 10 hours or so.

and i started eve cause i wanted a laid back MMO where i wasn't at the mercy of a sadist with an e-peen (12 war declares), had lots of responsibilities (fleet co-commander), and had to have an accelerated pace in progress (gotta train for specific ships and skills to go with the troops).

and i still don't know what some of the equipment does or how to work the user interface.

jesus tap dancing christ.

Well sounds like you're having fun :p

My BCs V should finish Tuesday. Been doing Level 4s in high-sec mainly. Some in my Tengu now instead of Raven all the time. It has slightly higher DPS and a better tank (including speed) for most cases, though dealing with elite frigates can be a pain in the ass at times with no drones, even with a target painter. Had some issues with a pocket the other day where there was something like 8 webbing frigates/drones, slowing me to an absolute crawl, while they moved at 400+ m/s rotational. Had to warp out once. Tech 2 drones on my Raven are simply much more efficient dealing with that unless you went with smaller guns or fit a web yourself. You don't really go smaller than a cruiser hull for L4s. May look into skilling into a drone boat eventually to be lazy, as I already have a good chunk of SP invested there already, though Drone Interfacing V is another 20+ day train. I also tend to lose a couple drones every other mission.

Machariels are another option that's popular for L4s and Incursions, but that's a bit out of my price range at the moment, in addition to skills I'd need to fly it effectively. I am not that far off from parity in armor tanking to my shield skills - maybe 15 days or so total, so there is that.

Still considering joining Dreddit, but I'm at least going to wrap up BCs V and Destroyers V first. Also trying to build up a bit more of an ISK cushion with my L4s. Was down to around 300mil after spending a bunch of cash on stuff, but I'm at about 410mil now after grinding some. Easy to pay relatively minimal attention while watching a Dota stream or Star Trek: Enterprise (latest show I'm on) on one monitor, with Eve-Survival on a third. Still have a little ways to go before returning to the savings I had when I started up again, and somewhat far from my all time high of about 1bil.

This is just liquid ISK though - including assets I'm easily worth over a bil. Some of the recent stuff I bought was subsystems for my Tengu to experiment with different fits (I should probably use EFT or something, but eh), so I could resell the unused ones for pretty much what I bought them for, but I may want them eventually for different fits.

yeah trying to get Destroyers to 5 and then BC along the way. gonna be sick!

i only have about 30M worth of stuff cause the war declarations have put a hinder on my assets and sources of income (which was none before or after joining corp)

Just hit less than 24 hours remaining on BCs V according to the Neocom App (iOS). Convenient little thing for tracking that. Also includes some databases, and lets you check EVEMail and market priced (albeit from eve-central - not live ones.) Liked enough and over any others that I paid to remove the ads. Otherwise free.

Nothing else new for now though.

33 days for BC not counting my lvl 5 Destroyer i still have to train. i dont think im going to make it :S

You can always remap. That and/or grab some implants. I did have 4 levels of BC trained before I started on level V here recently though. If you did nothing but train BCs, Cruisers, and Destroyers, you could probably make it before the switch at summer expansion which should still be. A couple months off at least. However since you're still pretty new, there may be other skills you find more valuable in the short term over prepping for that, even if it will grant you something like 6mil extra SP points in the end. You should at least get them both to IV, which is very doable.

I haven't done PvE in quite a while but from what I hear the new AI changes to NPCs has made using drone boats for PvE pure misery as the NPCs now furiously kill all drones. You probably know this already, but faction missiles are much better vs frigs than T2 Rage. On a missioning Tengu I'd also personally recommend rigging it with T2 Rigor / Flare rigs to help against frigates, but I guess it depends on how much money you put into your tank if you can get away with it or not.

I think I was going to put missile rigs on my Tengu, but couldn't do it because I'm already pushing the CPU to the absolute max, with something like 4 remaining - not enough to accommodate for the increased CPU on launchers drawback. And I wasn't sure if it would have been worth it to sub a ballistic control system for something that gave extra CPU. Probably would have been a wash at best. Maybe could work if I invested a lot more ISK into faction modules rather than T2 ones, but that's reaching out of my price range.

And I use Furys - not trained into HAMs, though that's on my to do list. Was already trained into Heavy Missiles before the nerf and I haven't had time to switch when they work well enough in most cases. Faction ammo is much more expensive than T2 as well, so you have to account for that.

As for drone boats, I figured the bonuses would be enough to keep the drones alive, but I haven't really read up on it lately.

Yeah Fury, my bad. Last PvE Tengu I flew was HAM fit but for missions HML are much better. What I did though was change ammo for the frigs. Your mileage may vary but especially with elite frigates I found that it saved time even with the reload time included. Depends on the mission I guess.

Must be some kind of international mind-reading device at CCP 'cause I was thinking about Eve the other night and woke up to a 90-day resub offer.

Kicking around Eglennaert in a Thorax running level 2 missions, everything going smoothly so hopefully I can get up to level 3 soon. Also training up exploration stuff to try solo'ing some now I can use T2 drones - can't really afford a full set just yet though.

I'm not experiencing this. My general method at the moment is to kite a few NPC's, release the drones and armour tank while using a webber to pin targets. NPC's seem to focus mainly on me. Maybe it's different on the harder missions.

Well BCs V is done. Dessies V has 6 days remaining.

After that I'll probably wrap up the few Tengu skills I still have at 4 and/or do some missile skills. Plenty of things I could go for at the moment though that would be useful.

Retribution 1.1 is tomorrow!

I have 1 day, 2 hours left on Destroyers V, so I'll have to hop on later tonight and toss something in the queue just in case the patch has issues.

man, i just found out i also need racial cruisers lvl 4 to take advantage of the new update to BC/Ds.

this sucks donkey balls.

This is coming out in the summer expansion (still a few months away) and what you need to do pre-patch to take advantage of the skill split and get the maximum number of free skillpoints is this:
Train every racial frigate to 4 (you only need 3 for the Destroyer skill but you need racial frigate 4 as a prerequisite for racial cruiser skills)
Train every racial cruiser to 3
Train Destroyers to 5
Train Battlecruisers to 5
With this, you will get an additional 6.2 million SP when the summer expansion comes out, so make sure you update your clone before venturing out.

It's actually racial cruisers to 3, not 4 (it's correct in your quote). Frigates to 4 though.

Have 40 minutes left on Dessies V as of this post. Then I'm done with my prep for that. Planning to wrap up my Caldari subsystem skills (had a few less crucial ones that weren't at V yet), then maybe Hull Upgrades V. After that I'm not sure. Maybe HAMs or some of the longer trains on missile support skills. Lots of choices.

Gunnery skills may be wise too if I move to null and need to fly different things. The reason I'm so hesitant to commit though is that there's really no going back, at least for awhile, if I do go out there. Gain some things, lose other conveniences.

i know gunnery has a lot of skills that support each other while missiles you have to be a specialist of so gunnery is better in the long run, but i lorv mah missiles.

Well missiles have the support skills too, but I feel like gunnery has a couple more (not sure if it actually does.)

Been out of loop for a while, but what exactly is up with the upcoming skill split? (So glad I have BC at 5 already, so gonna take me only 16 days to get my skills up for the levels mentioned in that earlier quote)

Been also thinking of returning; My baddon ( Yes, I fly a baddon) seems to be itching for some rat hunting.
Edit: Nvm on skill split, finally found it from Google.

destroyers done son! time for that sweet sweet BC, i actually got a good set of skills during my trial so im not that dire situation

You should have plenty of time still. I don't think the summer / spring expansion hits until sometime in May.

I must say, how the AI targets your drones exclusively in lvl 4 missions is very annoying.

Just saw this thread and thought I pop in.

It feels like the AI goes "MUNCHIES!" every time I launch my drones, pretty annoying since I cannot run level 4s yet, so am stuck with lvl 3s on my battleship, and ofc I can't hit a thing that's closer than 15km of me :D.

trust me when i say it's even more annoying at Lvl4.

Btw, if anyone's interested, I got some 21 day trial buddy pass. if you wanna use them
