I beat IU and wasn't impressed by the game. I remember that the companions were nearly braindead in combat. I had to control the healer in the final fight to beat the game.
Hearing that Star Ocean 5 took cues from the combat in IU put me off completely.

I hate escort missions.

So when I got to the desert and had to escort an entire fucking village, I took out the disk and threw the game away.

I traded it in, but the credit I got may as well have been garbage bin value.

As much as I dislike RoF, I must admit the battle system is unique and shows a lot of potential.

I think there is a lot of things that can be ironed out in a sequel or spiritual successor and maybe do a less convoluted plot. I do want expanded customization, new weapon types, new twists to the regular combat maybe with weapon combinations etc. The most unique RPG of that generation in terms of gameplay and tons of things that can be elevated with a sequel.

You already got it. It's called Star Ocean V and it's not very good, imo. Has someone already said this? I liked IU though..

The consensus is that SO5 is pretty bad. Haven't played much of IU myself so I can't compare the two.

I wouldn't say it's the top of my "I want a sequel" list.

I did enjoy it for what it was though. Combat was decent enough, and the story/characters were all right.

It was good, Imo. It was harmed by lackluster performance that ruined it's battle system. Otherwise it was a solid JRPG.

Second half of the story was raw.

Haha, yeah that was an annoying mission. I think there was an achievement for doing it without letting any of them die as well - though it might have been pretty easy to get I can't remember.

I didn't mind this game actually, dinner dance scene is blown out of proportion like Tidus' laugh.

I really enjoyed it. You know it's a good game when the only issues people can find are a stupid dance some kids do and the actual name of the game.
