It is kind of bizzare how guilt and blame does seem to be racial - or at least regional.
Seems like all Western countries have a bone to pick with America but love Japan.
And all Asian countries have a bone to pick with Japan but love America.
My take: National Pride is a goddam joke. Patriotism is a joke. It's a modern content that has arisen with prevelance of independant states as opposed to religions chokehold.
People started identifying more with their nationality than with their god, and then basically you trade one system of belonging (the church) with another (a country).
So what I am trying to say: Religion fanatism = fanatic patriotism

Recent NSA/spying stuff aside, I don't really see this being the case.It is kind of bizzare how guilt and blame does seem to be racial - or at least regional.

It's been smoothed over since the Obama admin, but in the Iraq War era, anti-Americanism was a mainstream sentiment of Western nations.Recent NSA/spying stuff aside, I don't really see this being the case.

I've always felt the reason for Japan not being pressed to own up to its war crimes was because the vast majority of their victims weren't white people. Most of the shit they did in China and Korea is just as, if not more fucked up than what the Nazis did in Russia and Eastern Europe, but not many people know about it because the victims don't have much presence in western society, aka poor Asian people.
Did it really go beyond criticism and manifest into the type of hatred Asian countries have against Japan though? It's been smoothed over since the Obama admin, but in the Iraq War era, anti-Americanism was a mainstream sentiment of Western nations.
Satō was right, it's all a damn conspiracy
Has someone already said that America has done bad things so who are we to complain? Also, it's culture.

Certainly played a big partSaltiness is not the reason WWII happened.
Nationalism sucks...a bastion for dumb people to feel good about themselves when they have failed in life.
I think this shows why China hates Japan.
History is rewritten badly by the losers
I wouldn't say it's 1:1 comparable no... Chinese rage over Nanking is pretty hard to match.Did it really go beyond criticism and manifest into the type of hatred Asian countries have against Japan though?

But obviously anti-Americanism is a streak around the world, in every country. Does that mean they hate the individual people or the cultural exports? No, not at all. I don't think it's that dissimilar to Korean frustration against Japan or w/e. Maybe less personal.
This is a great graphic. It really shows western people that they really don't know much about WW2 when their views are mostly just about their own country's involvement (USA, UK, Canada, Australia,etc.). Most of the death was taking place in parts they know very little about (Russia, Poland & China).
I'm talking about the reality of what it's like on the ground. Koreans will use Japan as a punching bag, just as most countries (western ones included) use America as a punching bag.Uh it's nothing like Korean "frustration" with Japan. Korea was made into a colony of Japan and treated as such. While they didn't suffer as many atrocities as China (though they did suffer plenty) simply due to being out of the fight earlier, they have very legitimate grievances with Japan and how Japan is trying to rewrite history. The anti-American sentiment is largely from countries that have never been seriously wronged by the US (such as the europeans), thus the extent and legitimacy of Southeast Asian hatred for Japan is incomparable to anti-American sentiment in most cases.

It's funny since I have a history degree with a specialization in Asian history. There is no comparison here. You obviously lack a grasp on history.
Koreans have a right to use Japan as a punching bag. It's been 100 hours since their country has been wholly their 'own'.
And now all this revisionist history is really sad.
Don't most countries have ~50% knuckleheads?
This and Fuji TV is better anyway; better shows and the Japanese nationalists hate it which makes me like it even more. I like to picture them seething at the number of Korean dramas.
This is why we don't need a Japan that "rolls back its pacifism".
so it's like Conservative vs Liberal here in America eh?
That is really belittling the efforts done by this country to this day.
Good job Japan, keep aliening Asia and hold on to Americans legs. Tieing yourself to the US will only make your economy weaker.
Wipe out the history of comfort women while you are at it.
Slightly surprised it hasn't been brought up yet, but Japan's Unit 731 should be mentioned whenever it tries to defend its role in WWII. Some of the most horrifying experiments ever conducted by mankind.
NHK has annual revenue of more than $6bn (£3.7bn), putting it close to the BBC
Pretty sure Fritz didn't mean the state(s) when he said "efforts done by this country". The early years after WWII where especially horrible in that regard. To this very day, victim groups still have to fight for the acknowledgement of crimes. Effort is a stretch.
Funnily enough, just a few days ago I saw an NHK news report on a comfort women memorial here in Glendale California. They didn't shy away from the topic at all. Described it as "coerced prostitution by the Japanese military throughout Asia during World War 2".
I guess they pick and choose when it comes to revisionism.
to be fair Allies weren't the nicest guy either. both side were horrific in WW2
sorry but this is bullshit..
