Xbox One February update is rolling out

It's insane to me that an electric device does not have a "check for updates" button. Then again, there wasn't any real management or a battery indicator either. Hot mess.

Time to turn mine back on to see if mine will update.

The way major worded it was that they will slowly roll it out, maybe they are worried about xbl especially with titanfall beta going on now.

Did the update basically break Kinect for anybody else? My Kinect is plugged in and everything, but after the update it won't take voice commands, and at other times it stops working completely and the Xbox thinks its unplugged. Going into Kinect settings shows a video feed that keeps freezing up.

Uh-oh. I'd say recalibrate for voice, but you say the video is messed up too.

"Have you tried turning it off and on again?"

How come it says installed a-z on that pic? Is there an uninstalled section? Also can you see all of your games in one section regardless if its installed or uninstalled?
The content that's installed is split from the content that isn't installed, I'm thankful for that. At the end of the list there's a sperate list with all content that's not installed. You can't merge those two lists.

It there any difference with the display setting for PAL people, like some way to change the refresh rate?
Nope.
PS4 is getting the same treatment as well.
Don't get your panties in a twist. Sheesh.
You're acting like a child. Just because someone does it in a PS thread doesn't give you a free pass to do the same elsewhere.

Here's how I got mine to force update, YMMV of course:

1) Under Settings > Power and Startup turn on the "Instant-on" power mode and make sure the "automatically download updates" box is checked
2) Under Settings > Network do the internet connection test (you probably don't have to do this step but it can't hurt)
3) Turn off your Xbox One and wait a couple minutes. After like five minutes it should start downloading automatically.

This method worked for a buddy too, we're both on the east coast (NJ and VA).

Ah so i guess games don't get grayed out anymore. What about achievements? Is it a list view now like 360?

How do you know it starts downloading it? Will the LED blink or something?

With the instant-on power option turned on I turned the console on, then turned it off (ie put it into sleep/standby), waited ten minutes and started the console back up. Update installed.

Yes! Somehow, everything in the UI feels much smoother. I guess there were a few under the hood stuff worked on.

Can't believe he was finally banned.
Haha, him and Nib95 were banned today. It's a better day for the xbox gamers lol

Yeah the Xbox logo LED on the front will blink as it's downloading

Alright thanks. Well, I turned the Xbox to standby for 10 minutes now since the Titanfall servers are down looks like I'm not getting the update yet. Location Miami Beach, FL

I don't see any changes to the UI of achievements/friends/messages at all. I think that MS is talking about UI performance instead of actual changes in those sections.
I agree with you about the demos, we still don't have an actual download history. It would be nice if MS brought back that back and put demo in there.
The HDMI-in is not for us.
My 360 is happily tugging along via the HDMI-IN port :p
*Significant performance and stability improvements
Is this the rumored 8% extra GPU power that's freed up?

Also it might just be my imagination, but I think that the upscaler has been adjusted. Can someone check this? DR3 looks and plays smoother.

I wonder if this update tweaks the scaler to remove the sharpen filter or if that will come in March. I have a properly calibrated TV so I guess once I play the Titanfall beta I'll be able to see for myself.

As Titanfall does not run right now I launched Powerstar Golf and Dead Rising 3, the sharpen filter is GONE :)

It seemed like he was really going in hard on the XB1 lately. Is that what he got banned for?

Yea they should have a separate place for download history and then the game library which is what we have now. Kind of like Steam. Also it would be nice for multiple ways to view the library like steam or itunes. A list view with icons, the current view and maybe one more.

Whoa, really? Do the games look better as a result?

Yes, now there is no sharpen filter, and the game's antialiasing is visible :)

I'll try to do some screens.

BTW, the update took 15 minutes at 350-400 kb/s, so I'll say it's near 250 MB as I download 1 GB per hour.

Updates start from 0% instead of XX% and you can play the game while it has download part of the update similar to installing a game from scratch.
We need filterless Titanfall screencaps

hell screencaps of everything
Every digital foundry article needs to be rewritten :p

I'm sure of it, the sharpening filter is gone and there's been a boost to GPU power available to games. It must be, at least I remember DR3 having a worse framerate than it currently has.

Downloading right now as I type this. San Jose, CA.

I was using energy saving mode and switched it to instant on with the automatically download updates box checked, turned off my Xbox One and after 5-10 mins, noticed the white Xbox Logo was blinking. Turned my system on and it shows a green progress bar.

Can't wait! Now just need the Titanfall servers to get back up.
