Made a comparison for Titanfall beta, not exactly the same frames but you can easily see the difference. First before/second after:
Thanks for these.

Hey Albert! If you are still lurking, take note. THIS is site to go to to host any new vids you want to show.

I'm working on an upload service for the site so people can upload their own videos. It will be heavily moderated so people don't send crap, but it should allow for some nice stuff hopefully. We'll need to find some money for the hosting though, working on that too :)

That sounds great Blim and I hope it works out great for you guys! Still, it's quite annoying to hear "We're bringing SuperX MegaFantasicalJourney Alpha! Here's a trailer." And it's hosted on a craptastic site with Droid 1 level video quality. It's one of those things, if you want to showcase your game, show it in the best light. Put the lower quality bs on youtube the next day or something...

That's good.

I still wonder who ever thought it would be a good idea to add some sharpening to those sub-1080p jaggies when upscaling them.

I can't really see a difference but I haven't trained my eyes to notice things like that. Glad it seems to be an improvement though.

Some games were adjust to use the old filter.

I wonder if they will get patches that adjust image quality for the new one?

I'd appreciate it if someone in the know would explain what the hell the scaler was attempting to do pre-patch. Anyone know? All it did was crush blacks and sharpen everything causing aliasing and other oddities. What were the benefits, or the original motivation for implementing such a scaler?

because the games do not run at 1080p native but are "stretched" to fit that resolution it has a negative effect on graphical fidelity. The sharpening filter was trying to hide that but because it sharpened the image way too much it actually made image quality worse in another direction.

Bad example, this shows sharpening being a good thing.

It's an accurate example, and I'd disagree that the "aggressively sharpened" apple gives a desirable result. You can see the exact sort of artifacts and appearance of aliasing that resulted from Microsoft's process.
