In other news, Nintendo announces that they are making Pikmin 3 as a result of Olimar being the reason Brawl sold so much.

One can wish.

Hey, Brawl has sonic nostalgia as well :D

Troodat. So in conclusion, Brawl is now going to sell gangbusters in Europe too. Yay for all! :D

Yay!

<3 Smash Brothers.

While the once a generation thing can be hard waiting some times, its always worth it.

Glorious stuff and rewarded with zomg sales.

He said that he left HAL because the distance/gap between the producer/director and the gamer became to large or something like that.
http://kirby.classicgaming.gamespy.com/info/kirby101/kirbycreator.html

"If I want to keep producing games as a business, then staying at HAL would be a more stable place to do that. HAL has its advantages. I get a reasonable amount of pay, living in Yamanashi prefecture isn't that bad, the rent's cheap, and I get national insurance, you know?

But I don't care about that sort of stability. Right now I'm far more concerned about the fact that the game industry, which is built from the balance between developers, publishers, and users, is beginning to fall apart at the seams. I think it's possible for me, as a developer, to have people think about this problem through the development work I do. If I stay in one spot, then I can only communicate this to a limited number of people around the company, but if I can go out and reach more people… I think there are lots of people with far greater abilities than myself out there in the world. I mean, I'm entirely focused on games and I really can't do all that much myself, but if I can get in touch with people that have other great talents, then I think that will set off a chemical reaction and in the end we'll have a chance to make new games and better things. People with these talents might be at a loss at what games to make, and perhaps I can help make up for that in exchange for lending me their talent. This may sound idealistic, but it's really what I think."

"If one game sells 40,000 copies and another one sells 20,000 copies, then one sold twice as much as another, right? But if you work for a company, this isn't reflected much in your salary. No matter if your game sells or not, you'll get money deposited in the bank every month on the month, so sometimes you see cases where developers get indifferent towards money and lose the feeling that they're really earning what they make. On the other hand, gamers take money out of their wallets and use it to buy your game. This difference is making gamers and developers drift farther and farther away from each other.

I talked with different people from around the industry about this, and it always seemed like the people who understood what gamers want the most are the guys in sales or the guys working in the stores. But isn't that messed up? It's completely messed up that the people actually making the games are the farthest away from what gamers want. I want to do something about that.

I'm really hoping this success isn't mirrored in Europe, either because the hype will have deflated or people have imported. They have to be sent a message.

But still, good job for NoA.

Yeah we actually have taste, cause there's probably way more nostalgia for old-school sonic :p

Well, Sonic is in Brawl... and looking at Mario and Sonic at the Olympics , SSBB could be a monster hit if it has good marketing behind

If all DLC came tied to $13 figurines, I'd consider all DLC to be free

SSB doesn't sell in Europe like it does in North America/Japan. Nintendo nostalgia isn't remotely as strong there.

it has sonic in the game..it will sell 500K in uk alone whe it`s all said and done

When was the last time Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games wasn't at Number One in Europe?

It's like Bryan Adams all over again D:

Well, no wonder I still haven't been able to get into a random match after almost a week of owning the game. Still though, sales are well deserved. I just can't believe Nintendo didn't prep their online for the massive influx of Smash players - either they didn't or they seriously underestimated it.

Nothing wrong can happen to Nintendo this gen. Non games, games, peripherals, consoles. It just sells.

Yes but that doesn't explain Smash Bros. Melee.

Oh yeah, that game had Ness! Smash success EXPLAINED.
They forgot to add this to the article: "Nintendo spokesrep stated, out of 1.4 million people 1,399,999 have not once played as Lucas in Brawl. Nintendo has announced they are never going to bring Mother 3 stateside during Amir0x's lifetime due to lack of character usage."

Um, yes? Turn the items off and play one-on-one on Final Destination or some other stage without a lot of distractions until she gets the hang of how it works on a basic level. Hell, let the "how to play" attract movie cycle up from the title screen. It's infinitely simpler than The Simpsons Game, it's just hard to master.

It's not really worth going through training sessions to teach someone a video game. There are plenty of other more accessible games out there.

Fucking awesome! Now get to work on SSB4 already!

That would be a mistake, Smash should sell for a long time. If anything Nintendo shouldn't release another Smash until next gen so it won't cut into the sales of Brawl. At the earliest the tail-end of this generation.

1,399,998, thank you very much.

Smash is a once-a-generation franchise, and I really don't see it working more frequently than that. Of course, at one point so was Zelda.

None of the mainline Pokemon games sold faster than this? I have my doubts about that one. Edit: Unless they were pulling shenanigans and separating the double Pokemon SKUs from each other for the sake of making Smash Bros. look better, of course.

I thought it sounds suspicious to!

Of course, but I mean let them start development on it right now so we don't have to wait so long after the next system releases to get it.

The Legend of Zelda, Adventure of Link
A Link to the Past
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask
The Wind Waker, Twilight Princess
Twilight Princess

Link's Awakening
Link's Awakening DX, Oracle of Seasons, Oracle of Ages
A Link to the Past, The Minish Cap
Phantom Hourglass

Zelda basically started as a twice a generation thing. Smash better stay a once a generation thing.

the zelda franchise was tweaked a lot though

look at what theyve done in games like links adventure, majoras mask, windwaker or even phantom hourglass...

there will always be that quirky zelda games we all love..

btw they could do jump WII stars or something.. that would rock...

SONGOKU Vs. Luffy and stuff like that

it was cool on DS

I wouldn't mind some updates and patches though. Things like VoiceChat and the ability to play random people with a friend would be nice.

yep, its the same like halo 3 for example, some pple couldnt understand the hype....in my case, im curious but its not my main type of game.....fun with friends that's all

You're right - it had nothing to do with the fact that Brawl is a massive upgrade over Melee and Halo 3 is a huge disappointment compared to 2.

Congrats to Nintendo - well deserved.

Nintendo will never include voice chat, because someone might say fart, or pedos will try to stalk little kids!

Really Nintendo? You make the hardest-core game you've ever made and it sells amazingly well in the US?
Saying SSBB is Nintendo's "hardest-core" game ever is beyond absurd. It's not even their hardest-core game of the last six months.

I have a Wii but not this game at this time. Too bad other games that deserve the success couldn't sell this well.

I don't see Nintendo patching.

Super Smash Bros Brawl: Evo coming up
Actually I wouldn't mind that either as long as I kept my save and stuff.

There are two definitions of hardcore. The first is the traditional one, and the second is the one Nintendo invented which marks the difference between games and nongames.

Brawl is the undiluted essence of Nintendo's definition of "(hard)core gamer".

Sucks when you think about it. The majority gets penalized because of the vocal few. Why cant the people who get offended by stuff just hit the mute button.

Surprisingly, such option is already given in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl.
