Watch_Dogs downgradeaton confirmed

The reason people bring up inFamous and Batman is more to show that the new consoles aren't pathetic little calculators and that open world action games can look amazing on them. It's a rebuttal to the purple Hong "lol next gen".

Never forget.

Sorry I was bored XD

I'll call it right now: this is an Assassin's Creed situation, where the second game will be a massive improvement over the first.

Infamous is a PS4 exclusive. Batman is next-gen exclusive. Watch Dogs is on both generations (5 consoles and PC). A bit of a difference in development.

If they'd have gone next-gen only it may have come much closer to matching the reveal.

The difference is the trailers for those games (Infamous at least so far) are delivering game visuals that match typically. What we are seeing here is complete bullshot faked videos.

I knew The Division was a hot piece of bullshit but I expected Watch Dogs to hit the level of visual quality of those E3 demos.

Difference is definitely noticeable.

That said, the gif part seems to be one of the less good looking parts of that gameplay vid. I think it still looks good for the most part.

Same thing that happened to lots of games. Trade show reveal that was never going to be possible on retail hardware.

PC can pull it off. It"s more the art direction (lightning use, bridge highlight because it's being use) that pull me off. It was classy and pretty. Its ugly now

How does this even happen? You are allowed to use different lighting assets for each platform :|

There's more than just lighting asset issues at play here, though that would have probably been the only thing in the concept demo they could have realistically carried over.

Bit harsh, game might be downgraded graphically, doesn't mean it's going to be a trainwreck.

Yeah, I doubt everyone in here whining about the graphics downgrade is rushing to cancel their pre-order. I'm still getting it on day 1, and I still think it'll be a great game. Just nowhere near as pretty as I was lead to believe.

This is one of the most stark downgrades I have ever witnessed. It truly appears to have made a generational step backwards, and then some. To my eye, the car models look worse than GTA IV, and the rest of the footage looks like GTA V.

FROM TWO YEARS AGO

They were showing things that were being worked on WAY before they were ready. I don't see how anyone could expect things NOT to change in some way.

Let's wait and see the final game first before hanging it out to dry.

This game has gotten less and less impressive every time I see it. I'm still interested in the game itself, but I'm leaning more and more towards "Ubisoft $20 in a couple of months" makr

Never forget.

Whoever made that ad campaign better hope they have fake names attached to that, they'll never live that down

We're judging what they've shown us in this new trailer. And it's OK for us to do that.

Everybody obviously can judge anything in this world, but that doesn't necessarily make it right. I'm just saying that (though it may be funny and easy to downright dismiss) the game still has time for polish.

Like I said, I agree that the game looks downgraded graphically. I'd still like to see how it looks at top notch (PC) quality etc etc.

It can't be just that. They had those original assets and effects.

Sure they did... on a top end PC.

Then they tried to get those assets and effects on 8 year old hardware. Easier to make one game that can run on current gen hardware with a small boost for next gen, than to make two separate games.

Yea, its not supposed to get worse. Extra work should lead to significant improvements not significant downgrades.

Uh yeah? That's why people talk about unrealistic body standards.

I was mad confused because everybody is saying E3 2012 vs March 2014 for this GIF:

iboqqHgyy5tOsD.gif

But it's the other way around, March 2014 vs E3 2012, right? Threw me off for a while there.

Best case scenario, I get another Sleeping Dogs from this.

Um.

The first one, the dark one, is the reveal. The one with the really light road/MAD MILE highlight and intrusive UI is 2014.

Some things may change. But at this point is clear that, the 2012 version never truly existed, it was made as a marketing tool. Not the first time it happens in the industry, not the first time Ubi does it.

That's just sad.
I hope the PC version isn't downgraded.

I know, it's lost. The data has been corrupted. There is nothing left. But hope dies last, because it's what we fight with when all else is lost.

That's horrible.

What's the ETA on people not believing the hype trailers anymore?

We need this shit to stop, it's ridiculous, Aliens was an alarming case already, but the bullshots are getting really out of hand.

----

Now I see what's the point of the delay: it would've been one of the biggest disappointments of the new generation, one talked about years in the future (kinda like the first AssCreed). I think Ubi figuratively shat their pants when they saw GTAV, they knew they couldn't live up to the hype so they delayed the game. But now the hype is dead and the game looks comparatively worse than before... so I doubt it did them any good.

That's some serious "glass is half full" positive outlooking there, cheers!

Quite the opposite, really. When you spend time crafting a tiny, limited demo with a completely linear path you can achieve a lot. When working with the realities of development and actually building a large scale world with fully functional systems in place it can be a lot more difficult to hit those results.

That 2012 demo was nothing more than a tech demo, I'd say, not a real game.

So, Watch Dogs are worse than Sleeping Dogs now?

I really don't much like that shot, to be honest. Texture filtering is awful and it looks rather boxy. Sleeping Dogs is an attractive game, but that shot is not.
