Adam Sessler leaves Rev3 Games, starts consultancy firm

Subete no aware
Probably answered already, but he works at the same consultancy firm as Jeff Green.
Wait, that's where Jeff Green ended up? I guess that's really the only place he could go at this point. Too experienced for game journalism, but didn't want to do development.

I don't watch any of his videos. I've only seen his name connected to controversial opinions. From reading through this thread, I can tell you that he said something about 1080p and 720p being the same and ignored a video he recorded prior where he said the opposite, mentioned Titanfall is as many videos as he could, said the PS4 and Xbone cost "basically the same" and something about a females & a God of War trophy. The resolution thing and Titanfall were a pretty big topic recently, so it wouldn't be hard to miss his chiming in.

Oh I can see why people might be up in arms I guess, but I just valued his game opinions on the game he was reviewing not his personal theories on what was an offensive trophy (even though it was pretty ridiculous how offended he got over that) or debates why 720 is better/worse than 1080. I did watch his Titanfall review and saw he gave it a 5/5 but didn't think anything of it since lots of people here think it's really fun and seem to love it as well. I think I've heard other people make the "PS4 and Xbone cost basically the same" claim by adding the PS4 camera into the equation, which is bullshit. Again it's not an opinion about a game, and hardly something to get all pissed off about IMO. Too much drama and hate in the industry lately.

The only people showing their true colors are a bunch of Sony bronies really

Surprised nobody replied to this.

Don't really care about him leaving. Didn't like his English major approach and I remember him saying some dumb stuff here and there. Nothing against the guy though.

Are you fucking serious? With the way he was tweeting it seemed like a life or death situation. You mean to tell me it was because he couldn't get a free PS4 early? That's what was affecting his livelihood and had him looking at a different career choice at the time? A fucking free PS4? Really?

Yup. Him and Gies were having a complete meltdown over it.

What is the deal with everyone hating on Sessler? I think he was in the top 3 as far as game journalists go for me, 100% trustworthy and did things right.

Over the last few years he's been VERY VERY ABSURDLY diplomatic in handling things.

He dismisses any kind of criticism towards games.

The ending to Mass Effect 3? He liked it.
The Xbox One DRM? He was fine with it.
1080p vs 720p? He doesn't mind 720p.

All of his choices seem to downplay anything that would upset relations with the companies he deals with.

I'm not saying he is pro-Microsoft or pro-EA, but rather wants to be a boring ass voice of reason, akin to an NPR host.

Yup. Got to try really hard to respect a guy like that, lol.
Personally I'm glad he left. The guy had no real intimate knowledge or enthusiasm for games, seemed to me.

Very good summary, exactly why I was so frustrated with his output.

Only people left at Rev3games that may be able to keep me viewing their videos is Tara and Nick. Goodluck Rev3games.

Finally, someone mentions Nick. I like him a lot more than Carboni, who really can be annoyingly condescending as was mentioned earlier in the thread.

whats with the microsoft posts? did he defend them alot similar to shane did for sony or something? i dont watch rev3 much

He basically spent the last year defending various controversial Microsoft decisions like their DRM policies, the 'resolutiongate' thing and their YouTube/Machinima 'get paid to say good things about the Xbone' thing a few months ago.

Wasn't very "diplomatic" with that Second Son Review, tho, AMIRITE?!

Some of you are just impossible to please. At least you're consistent, though. Much of the same people disparaging anything that doesn't suit your fancy in every thread. I will give you the ME3 thing - that pissed me off as well, but, then again, the MAJORITY of the press echoed his sentiments.

Truth. Nick is awesome. Plus, he's Porter Robinson's brother! Agree with whomever mentioned Max Scoville, Nick/Scott/Max/Tara would be top notch.

OT: I enjoyed most of Adam's stuff at Rev3, good luck to him in the future. Think it is pretty poor form to accuse someone of ill-intent purely because you disagree with their opinions. Corporate Apologist is an awful phrase.

Have fun Adam.

Wonder if stays on the press side or jump over to development .... would love to see him join Giant Bomb

For the love of all things gaming... Please God No!

Sessler is almost completely the opposite personality found at Giant Bomb, he would destroy what they have built.

What he could do though, is take on Pachter. Obviously accuracy isn't important, so Sess should be a natural.

Not a fan of Giant Bomb at all. Bringing in Sess would be a huge upgrade!

So when do they fire Major Nelson and hire Sessler at MS.

No, but seriously; were do you think Sessler ends up? It sounds like it won't have anything to do with journalism. In normal journalism a lot of people move into PR afterwards.

Maybe PR for a well known studio somewhere.

I figure a lot of people would love to have him.

A transition to community manager has seemed to be the traditional career route.

Ive always liked him, but the last year or so on REV he seemed very much uncomfortable with the leaving of his bubble on the TV. I used to love listening to him, now I just pay attention to him on occasion. His(from my POV) extreme lack of consumer advocacy perspective just started to get annoying.

I met the Sess twice. Really nice guy, although I'm not surprised he's getting out of the review business. He's one of the old guard, relatively speaking, and I can't imagine it's always a career with upward paths. There's no video games Ebert to keep trucking as long as they can; I imagine we'll see a few other moves like this soon.

Oh, and Uncharted 3 Review Thread 2: Infamous Boogaloo continues to be one of the most embarrassing subjects on GAF, I see.

I hope the best for him. Seeing as he is very colorful with words and very creative with the way he speaks, his new job venture sounds like something that he is really good at. It seems fitting and I wish him the best. At least he will still be invested in his hobby, just away from angry fans that he no longer has to deal with.

Good luck Ses :)

Exactly, he gave games low scores because they were "too difficult" A good example was the God Of war debacle that had everyone up in arms because of his little tantrum over a trophy name. He was awesome on G4, but when he joined Rev3 he just wasn't the same person.

He was the main reason I was subscribed to Rev3games and although I like hearing Tara Long's eloquent opinions on games, there isn't enough value in the rest of the channel to remain subscribed to it.

In any case, I wish him the best of luck in his future endeavours.

I'll still watch Rev3Games as he was the reason I started watching when he first joined. Wish Sessler the best of luck.

Shame, Sess was the main reason I watched Rev3 vids even though I thought the channel's overall output was lacking. I've always respected the guy and his opinion whether I agreed with him or not. All the best for him.

The hyperbole negative overreactions and or shill accusations when he says something minor that isn't anywhere near as controversial as people make it out to be were always funny. People on the internet tend to overreact a lot though.

Awful lot of assholes in this discussion.

Whether you agree with his opinions or not the man has spent more time championing gaming and working to get it the status among the other forms of media that it deserves than most of the people on this site have been alive.

I wish him the best of luck at his consultancy job.

It was time.

He really fell off this last year or so. Sometimes quite a noticeable slant recently, or just generally incoherent/inconsistent.

What? You are talking about the US-market, since he didnt do jackshit for the acceptance of videogaming as a medium outside the US because no one knows him.

And I am sure even without him videogames would still be seen in the same league as other media nowadays.

I never particularly agreed with Sessler's opinions, but the man was eloquent at what he did.

Wish him the best.

He showed his whole ass during the DRM debacle, but I liked him during the old TechTV days, so best of luck to him in his future endeavors.

Interest in Rev3 Games from me has gone up 50,000%.

And my interest in Rev3 Games has gone down by 50,000%.

Seriously, I only ever watched reviews from that channel if it was from Sessler, I don't care about anyone else. In any event, I think this was inevitable as someone else posted Sessler is a senior dude at this point I think he should be making some big bucks and I doubt that he was getting that at Rev3.

Good on the guy for doing the switch, he peaked a long time ago and unfortunately the options for moving up in that line of work seem limited.

Yep, a lot of miserable people lol. Nothing new I guess. I wonder how much dealing with the constant barrage of internet rage factored into his decision. Shit has to get stressful. You'd think after last week's huge debacle people would better understand the impact of their words, even if it is through a computer.

Dude was cool during the xplay days. Totally fair and cool reviews of ps2/xbox era games. He turned into a xbox fan last year though...

I think he got a lot of money from ms to promote drm and xbone in general
