I don't know, it seems to have garnered them some mind-share, don't you think? A few non-gaffers I know have been talking about Nintendo the last few days because of the MK8 news, and I imagine Smash will have a similar effect.

I think it'd be worse if they just kept quiet when they were sitting on something big like (hopefully good) Smash news.

Yea if they released a Demo of Smash Bros on the eShop after the ND with the game having a Aug release date, Nintendo would sale some WiiU's next week

Or it's a fantastic idea, because people are talking about Nintendo and Mario Kart 8 at the moment, many are now saying they're getting a Wii U, so they're pushing this to show there's other awesome titles coming soon.

Wouldn't the same go for releasing both Smash and Mario Kart within a few months of one another?

my ONE smash bros wish:

new character "colors" are not just color swaps, but different versions/outfits.

- having a raichu and maybe dedenne skin for pikachu
- maybe different visual styles for link/zelda from different games (OoT, TP, SS, wii u)

and it would be the best way to appease people by having the "clone" characters be different skins. no more fox, falco, and wolf. falco and wolf can be fox skins. lucas and ninten can be ness skins...


the possibilities is literally endless.


they can even take it a step further and have the skins have different looks for abilities to make them seem more unique and keep the clone characters in without waisting slots on them

I might be misunderstanding you, but I'm pretty sure that would just make those characters even more clone-y than they already are, which would please no one.

Like I'd rather have Doc Mario in Project M than what they have now, for example.

no what i mean is instead of wasting 3 character slots on falco, wolf, and fox you just make falco and wolf skins for fox. they can even keep the color changes and just have it as different options.

less "clones" more variety

This has been discussed a lot. Changing the costumes, like in the instance of pikachu/raichu changes the character itself, which i believe sakurai has said he is opposed to (citation needed). If the 'costume' is literally the same character (wario, for example), then it's fine. We could get Dr. mario and mario as skin changes, since they're both literally mario. We won't get falco as a skin for fox though, since they're 2 different people.

The "clones" have different moves and stats though, a simple costume change between Ness and Lucas wouldn't be the same as having both characters in the game, they play completely differently, just like Ike and Marth and Roy or Link and Toon Link all play differently. I assume Fox/Falco/Wolf are the same, though I have no experience playing any of them.

Why do people still feel like this is a good way to do anything regarding characters who are established and popular within the context of Smash Bros?

But unless their moves are different (like the difference between Melee and Brawl Falco), they're more cloney than they were before. So people who played as those characters before won't be happy, which is the whole reason not to cut them in the first place.

And if their moves are still different... You didn't change anything.

I hope we get a large amount of returning character confirmations in this direct. I'd love to at least get the characters from the first Smash confirmed: Captain Falcon, Ness, Yoshi, etc.

I hope we get lots, and lots of gameplay footage

We've been so dry on gameplay since E3 and I hope Sakurai goes into some of the new mechanics in the game. (Hint, the customization he was talking about at E3).

That happened to me at first too. It should really be modified to say April 8 and 9 instead of having any ambiguous date formatting. I guess you could still nit pick at it though. Can't please everyone.

I would love to see Snake return. Also where is Yoshi? And Falco needs to be revealed plz. And Chrom. And Rayman.
I am going to set no expectations for maximum hype when something gets revealed. lol
