2014 no shit is becoming the year of the Vita in the West.

Nice to see you guys getting a lot more titles localized and such. Exciting times indeed.

Damn that edit Parakeetman, you made me spit out my drink all over my lap.

I aim to please. Thank god I had that image saved just in case lol

I sure hope the NA release will have the original Japanese voices. Having watched the anime on Crunchyroll, being forced a dub for the game would suck.

Well, was expecting this after all the hints to wait, but this just made choosing to import a lot harder. D:

btw guys check the main page~

Reaction to localization news: See Asuna.
Reaction to picture: Something of a mix between Suguha and Silica.

I was all :( when I saw that ;_; Sachiiiiiiiiiiii.

If Kirito and Asuna survived, maybe she could've too. ;-; I mean, how do you explain her being here?

Assuming the same thing, its being release within a few months. I dont think its possible to create and insert dubs into the game

Never watched the anime but this game looks good. Will buy.

The game does give a very brief overview of what happened up until the current events, but its very very sparse with details.

If you have time try checking the show out till the 14th episode. Its not like you will spoil anything for yourself considering the story in the game is an alternate story from the rest of the series.

Jesus good thing I finished most of and put the OT up today lol. Wouldnt have been as amusing if it gone up tomorrow

I like the dub :(

But yes, this is Japanese audio only, pretty sure since like has been said, it's coming out in a rather short time frame.

I don't want to start a digital vs physical argument here.

Now I'm a bit torn since the NA release is digital only. My 16GB can't handle all the purchases I've made the past few months + PS Plus games. Time to scope out that 64gb memory card, I think?

Back to SAO

Also how important are the debuff / defense skills here. I generally have an all-in attack group when playing JRPGs. How screwed am I going into this game?

Its pretty important actually. The debuffs and such. Having defensive skills is more situational, but in general debuffs do help a lot esp on the bosses. The normal enemies you dont have to worry as much, but the smaller "field bosses" it does help with though. Esp things that can cause stun, lower hit rating, slow the enemy helps prevent your sword skills from being interrupted. The party in general will just be you and your partner that you select. I forget if you could fully select who takes part in the floor boss raids though. I think you can up to a certain point. Its been a real long time since I last played so that part is a bit fuzzy.

Think of this like a MMO in the sense before boss fights you get yourself buffed up and get ready to toss on a bunch of debuffs if you can on the boss from the get go.

Wow, out of all the games based on anime phenoms to come out in Japan, Sword Art Online (on Vita no less) is not one I would have picked as a likely international pick-up despite the Adult Swim exposure. Nice to see the chance being taken.

so what is general gameplay like?

You seem to have ai guys, do you give them instructions? Is the mmo 'triangle' in play?

General gameplay is like partially an MMO along with action RPG. Though am not sure how they are doing the standard attacks this time around. As the previous game was totally like an MMO with how there was an auto attack on constantly as long as you were in combat.

Anyways, there is no real "party" system its more you travel with a partner. You are able to give commands requesting the partner to do things or they will just act on their own. If you like an action they perform you can praise them for it and the AI will remember that allowing you in some ways to "customize" the AI.

Weapon skills as you might have seen from the current selection of footage is mapped to the buttons. These can be changed and looks like there might be sub menus too by holding down the shoulder buttons most likely.

The action part of the combat is based on proper use of your sword skills, the ability to dodge attacks and (am pretty sure) the parry move which used to be in the previous game. Which was highly useful for creating an opening to attack.

Anyways just watch the footage if you have not already.

The only time there is a "Party" is on the floor boss raids. I dont remember exactly what type of control you have over the other AI members, but everything else with your partner is still the same. There is footage up of the 46th floor boss raid so go watch that if you are curious.

I forget, how did the PSP game handle
Death
?

You die its game over, story NPCs die its game over.

Other non "essential" NPCs die they stay dead and there is a graph which shows that, along with the general levels of the worlds population. The more friendly NPCs die the harder the boss fights will become during your ascent through Aincrad.

oh only seen floor raid bosses, didn't know there was other stuff.

Yeah there are normal fields with standard enemies and field bosses. The hollow area which is the new zone will have special floor bosses in it too it seems. In regards to field size am not really sure till I have my hands on the game. I would imagine that they would be larger than the PSP ones though. Even more so considering they dont need to streamline things to work on the PSP too as its an all Vita title.

hahahaha I knew that pic would get some great reactions. It was so perfect too for any sort of big announcements. Its just too bad I didnt have more time to find a better word bubble graphic to use. Wanted one with 4 tails leading to each of the characters there lol.

So Fire Emblem rules, essentially?

Yeah thats one way of looking at it.

since the other non-essential player NPCs are all "unique" too in one way or another, losing too many of a certain type could be problematic Id imagine

The non essentials you can help then with requests and such or just fight along side them attacking the same target which earns them EXP faster. So you basically can help them level which will make the characters in the current floor stronger for the floor boss raid.

Also if you collect all the information possible which unlocks hints about the floor boss, you will also be able to see what the recommended general level of those joining the floor boss raid.

So is this connected to Infinity Moment at all, or are they completely separate "what-if" games that happen to split off at the same point from the main story?

Parakeetman

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
And do you start the game at lvl 90s or something?

Yes you start off the game at a high level. due to the story taking place after Kirito and the others have fought their way through 75 floors before hand. This story does not start from the beginning of the whole Sword Art Online incident.

I'm personally trying to decide if I want the Asia version. I crave physical copies.

I guess we will have to wait and see to get confirmation if its localized come May. Unless someone gets concrete news earlier than that which would be fantastic if someone with connections could get some confirmation. As still the whole "subtitled" thing bothers me lol

I knew it... from the moment I watched the RedSunGamer coverage of the Japan Vita-launch I knew it would pay-off to buy a Vita! :D As a anime fan and also a fan of the SAO anime the Vita will probably be one of my most loved gaming handhelds and consoles alike!

Now if they announce it for EU too it will be perfect but either way I'm getting this, even if it means account swapping :p The Vita really becomes a anime paradise! :D And before I forget it very nice OT Parakeetman! :)

I'm sitting here thinking the same thing. I'm thinking of ordering the physical import version just because I want to save my memory card.

Seriously Sony needs to announce a mem card price drop or something soon if they really want the Vita to take off further as thats the biggest neck I constantly am hearing from folks. Dont blame people too as the shits expensive.

SCEA needs to announce the 64 GB card for NA/EU release and price it at $100. Then they needs to lower the 32 GB price to $50 and every Vita bundle should include a 16 GB card, not 8.

That said, if you don't mind paying $120, the 64 GB card is an excellent purchase. If you live in the US, Amazon.com has them ready to ship from their warehouse on behalf of third party sellers.

You're welcome :) And I agree, I would have purchased much more PSP and PS1 games already if space wouldn't be so sparse but I'm currently having only 8GB and I refuse to pay so much for bigger memory-cards, I should probably see if I still can get a deal on these 64GB ones from Japan :/

SHOCKING: Thread created by Parakeetman is excellent. Awesome work in the OT! Looking forward to playing, as I love what I've seen from the videos in the original post. :) Subscribed!

The 64GB is already the equivalent of 100$ (about 9500 yen). The Amazon seller you bought it from has ripped you off. Don't buy it from Amazon, buy it directly from a place like Nippon Yasan.

Trying to decide whether or not to import the Asian version if it is indeed fully translated. I'd much rather have a physical copy, but since I use a US PSN account I wouldn't be able to get any of the DLC if I wanted it. On the other hand, I'm concerned about whether or not they'll take any of the dating elements or anything out of the US version.

Probably going to double dip the jp psn and the asian TW version if it has a full english localization. One for playing and one for collecting. A superb OT too! Next SAO should be a Morpheus VR game :p

Ill be sure to upload new stuff as soon as I have my copy of the game.

Since would help show folks the general flow of things better / how combat is.

theres dlc?

In the future too from what is sounds like there will be additional stuff added to the Hollow Area also. So that should be cool. Am guessing it will be content updates and such. Makes sense seeing how this title has co-op included too. Jesus I seriously have no idea how you managed to not read / see DOWNLOADABLE CONTENTS + DLC right under that on the OP.

I wouldnt think that they would remove such features. Considering its one of the main features of the game as in not a small section you would just cut out. I mean things like conception 2 came out so...

and a big thanks to you also for being quick with dropping the link about the US release. I did the same thing with the PSP version. Well more like buy digital first (as it was sold out everywhere in my location at the time) and from there got the physical to collect as soon as it was back in stock.

Seriously whoever release like an mmo in first person on the Morpheus will be rich. Well if its not total crap anyways lol Im still hoping Sony bugs the shit out of From Software to work with their SCEJ studio again to make VR morpheus Kings Field. Since we are WAAAAAAAAAY overdue for a return to the series.

Same timeline as Infinity Moment and apparently the first chapter of it covers Infinity Moment.

I think its more considered a remake from what I understand.
Either way, I hope the IM story isn't required to understand this one.

I mostly asked because I noticed that in addition to Filia, the Mysterious Girl Original Character for this game, the Mysterious Girl Original Character from Infinity Moment (Strea) is in this one too, for some reason, hence wondering if there's any connection.
