PS+ version of Driveclub will have 5 tracks (1 country) and 10 cars.

It's a pretty big demo and it's a discount on the full game. Fine with me!
I don't think that's the case.
You can get all of the cars and tracks from the start by picking up the Blu-ray, which offers the best value overall, or you can try out the PlayStation Plus Edition first and then upgrade to match the original game.
It actually implies upgrade will cost more if anything.

Minus a few cars and tracks? Either this game is severely lacking in content or the scope or this PS Plus Edition was completely nerfed.
The problem is we've never had a full car and track list, either now or for the once-hoped PS4 launch version.

Remember that quote was from last year, when they were still planning on releasing with the console.

So, at the time it may very well have been the case that there were not thousands of cars and hundreds of tracks and so the PS+ was only missing a few cars and tracks. But now, with their delay, they may have had the time to add more tracks and cars and kept the PS+ edition the same and therefore isn't only missing a few items.

We will never know the answer to the question though, because we will never know how much content the game was going to ship with, had it made November 2013.

About what I expected. I'd rather they include all the game modes than lots of cars and tracks I can't do anything with. I feel like I would enjoy full game modes with 5 tracks and 10 cars a lot more than (just for example) 50 tracks and 100 cars where I could only play a time trial.

Either way their promises were mostly vague and open to interpretation. With a full retail release of the same game simultaneously I don't really understand some of the vitriol in this thread. since we're getting this in addition to everything else we get for paying a relatively small monthly fee, I don't see it as a huge loss. It seems to me like this is just Sony's way of testing what they can give plus members and still keep them happy and a possible test of ways to boost sales of full games rather than some gift to the fans. If you don't like it, don't pay for the service. Simple as that.

As I recall Plus members would receive a special version of the game that was maybe a little more than your typical demo.
In typical fashion some gamers over expected and are now upset because they're not getting the majority of the game for free. You guys do realize Sony wants to sell copies of this right? How would they do so if they were giving every Plus owner the version you imagined?

Hey man, then don't use the game to sell PS plus.

What demo offers all of the game modes? Everything but free race or quick race is usually grayed out. This is far more than a demo.

That said, Evolution did misspeak when they said the Plus version would be missing a few tracks and cars. I'm guessing that once it was delayed the Plus version got smaller in scope when it comes to assets.

I'm sorry. Calling this a demo is ridiculous and stupid.

Expecting a full retail title day and date with release on a brand new console is stupid.

Call it scaled down, fine, but if you honestly believed that even the original plan was the full game "minus a few cars" I have bridge to sell you.

They always made it sound like much much more than a demo. Give them shit for misleading people.

this sum up this thread nicely.

I would hardly say expecting the developers and Sony to live up to previous promises regarding the content of the PS+ Edition is entitled.

Previously the game director stated the differences were few, and the plat was fully achievable on the PS+ edition. Nothing wrong in questioning why this has changed.

Most are simply calling it what it is. A demo.

it was expected to be that ..a sample of the full game..people getting mad about this is ridiculous

i payed 40 euros for a year of games..its circa 4 bucks per month for 2 ps3 games 2 vita games and 1 ps4 game...four bucks a month...and people are getting mad? LOL

I don't know what people were expecting, but it's a decent version considering it'l be free for plus members. I think they said it'l have it's own platinum trophy as well, which is good for trophy hunters.

What is a big difference? Cars and tracks are assets, it's missing a few assets. That's irrelevant anyway, because they specifically used both phrases.
A few assets are missing could be easier interpreted as its missing content in general: cars, tracks, spoilers, rims, etc...

When you say a few cars and tracks are missing without the modifier of assets, it makes it seem as if less thing are excluded.

Thats the last I'll speak of that, for the sake of the thread.

Think he posted somewhere that PS+ users get a discount. With that quote he could just mean that PS+ + Upgrade fee > Blu-ray.
For the retail game to be 'the best value', PS+ and upgrading needs to be more than $60, or still less content than the disc.

this sum up this thread nicely.
PS+ set up these expectations by offering up full major releases on PS3, and not even older titles at that. Big budget stuff from the big names that gets a lot of attention and instant hype.

PS4 hasn't been able to match up with those blockbuster entries for a variety of reasons, and has been hit and miss with the smaller titles made available, depending upon tastes. That mixed with PS+ now being mandatory for just about anybody looking to play online and you're eventually going to run into this disconnect of expectation and reality. I wouldn't call it entitlement though.

But then again I never knew how this PS+ version of DriveClub was ever really going to work - providing *almost* the full game (with an upgrade option) seemed like a strange way to position it.

I'm not a fan of racing games (or more precisely racing games like this), so this is more than enough for me.

Having said that, Evolution Studios has said the following - "You can earn the platinum trophy in the PS+ Edition, remember its the full game minus a few cars/tracks", and "The only difference between the PS Plus edition and the boxed retail is that there's a slightly scaled down version of content"...

So:
1. You can earn the Platinum
2. full game minus a few cars/tracks
3. only difference is that it's slightly scaled down

Those are big promises and I hope they aren't full of it. It's honestly pretty hard to believe those 3 statements. If that's not what is being delivered, that's not what should have been said. We'll see.

Yeah, if people's expectations are wrong then it's purely because of how Sony's PR were pushing this game with Plus. They should have been clear from the very beginning if it was just going to be a demo.

And I don't know where people get off on using the word entitled as a bad thing; subscribers were promised one thing and are now getting something else. People are entitled to complain when they pay a monthly fee for a service.

A demo taking the place of a game for a ps+ month definitely rubs me the wrong way. I didn't think plus was meant to be a place to sample games you might wanna buy later. Hopefully this won't become a trend.

Ugh, this is just a demo. Give me full games, Sony.

I feel cheated... This is the "free game" you hyped up for launch? That you delayed for a year?

I expected the full game with microotrasactions to buy cars you want/unlock tracks. Tracks and cars are fully unlocked for $60.

You two almost always distinctly troll Sony threads.

This is okay given it's free to Plus members.

Yes, and do you realize how long after the launch of the PS3 that full major releases were offered?

I wouldn't say people are entitled, just ignorant.

Honestly, this sounds just like Gran Turismo 5 Prologue. Which isn't a bad thing by any means. Besides, you're getting the game for free. Y'all need a reality check.

Always planned on getting the full digital version.. I'll take a discount if you can with PS+ but don't really care.

Not great PR though.

Offering a PS+ version of the game with almost all of the retail game's content for free didn't really make much sense to me.

This makes sense, though. :p If you're interested in DC, you might as well buy the retail game. The PS+ version is just a try before you buy freebie Sony is giving you lot. Some people in this thread are being ridiculous to be honest, you would think Sony is charging you for this.

I agree. And as people have pointed out, it's a pretty hefty demo if you are going to call it that. Most racing car demos give you one or two tracks and a car (why do they need to give you more for a demo? I usually find for a demo that is enough to decide if I want the game or not, you really don't need all the cars or more than one track to really demo a racing car to get the feel if you like it or not. So getting 10 different cars and several tracks is definitely more than a demo).

Honestly, it's "free", it's giving you 10 cars to play with and 5 tracks that apparently they'll have different configurations for you to race, I could probably enjoy it as is for a free game. And if it really is that fun and I want more (probably would buy it more for the extra cars than anything) I can buy it (and it will be a discounted price. ANd then I'll own the full game, PS+ still valid or expired, for cheaper than if I didn't have PS+).

Honestly, I'd say what they are giving you is probably at least worth 20 dollars (and it would be a very high quality game for 20 bux, just limited) which is about the value of games they've been offering on PS+ for PS4.

Correct:
I’d also like to confirm that the PS Plus Edition of the game will be available on the same day as the full release. Offering a selection of cars and tracks from the complete version, we think it’s the perfect way for those new to the genre to get an idea of what the full DRIVECLUB experience is all about. Look out for more details on the PS Plus Edition very soon.

And that would be fine, I don't think the amount of content is the problem, it's the disingenuous claims initially. If it had been called DriveClub Prologue, there wouldn't be any complaints.

I think all the tizzy is due to the platinum trophy lol. Whodathunkit?

Buying regardless, more than a demo, not a full game. I can live with that being a PS+ offering.
