lol at people disappointed in this. you really expected Sony to give out on of their AAA games this year for free?

And that would be fine, I don't think the amount of content is the problem, it's the disingenuous claims initially. If it had been called DriveClub Prologue, there wouldn't be any complaints.

What disingenuous claims? They said it was a PS+ version (they even gave it a special name like you asked) that wasn't the full version....

When did they ever claim you were getting the full version?

Some people complaining really want to stress the fact that the content we are getting is not free. At the very least can we please acknowledge how much we are actually paying for said content?

We are not paying $49.99 for it. We are paying $49.99, divided by twelve-months equals $4.16, divided by the six games we have been getting each month equals $0.69

sixty-nine cents.

This is assuming you paid full price, which many of us haven't.

sixty-nine cents feels like a good value proposition to me.

If there is no platinum trophy (which I care about, others may not) and it really is a demo-ized version of the game, I really hope something else is given to PS4 users that month as well.

The whinging in this thread is fucking hilarious.

Fully featured, but with scaled back content. That's been the deal from the start. What has changed?

And you know what else we've known from the start, that there will be an upgrade from the PS+ edition to the full edition.

What did you guys think they'd make it $60 to go from 198 cars to 200?

You guys should let me on that free PS+. Because I paid good money for my subscription.

Also that guy on the last page going on about entitlement... Come on now, really?

so a 50$ yearly subscription thats gives away ps3 games, vita games, ps4 games every month and gives access to multiplayer on ps4 should give you 75-80% of a brand new 60$ game for free? ok then

You say that now, but if companies started selling demos for any amount, however small, there would be a huge uproar.

They never said initially that we were getting DriveClub. They said we were getting the PS+ Edition. They've always been careful to call it that.

The disingenuous bit is saying that edition is only missing a few cars and tracks, which obviously isn't the case. Bad bad and hopefully Rushy will chime in on it, but nobody was disingenuous with the name of the game.

On top of that, they told us the game would be out at LAUNCH and then when they very quietly delayed that, they only told us it would be ready 'soon' but refused to give a date. All those people who bought PSPlus subscriptions with their PS4 expecting to get Driveclub soon will now have to buy another PSPlus subscription if they want to play it more than a month. Putting us through that delay should have made us get a better version of the game, it sounds like they probably took more out of it to get more purchases and try to make up the cost of the delay. It's okay to not defend the company when they do something shady, and this certainly seems like it could fit.

The fuck? lol. Show me your poll where PS4 owners bought PS+ because of DC? Also DC was a launch game. They gave away PS+ for free for the first month. So if the game did come out at launch you wouldn't have had to spend a single dime to play the PS+ version. Also PS4 came out in Nov. DC comes out in oct. You have a good month to enjoy this "demo" for free.

Don't pay for PS+ and see how much of this game content you get access to.

I've always planned on picking up the full version of this game anyway, so never expected much out of this slim-line demo version.

Do we know the full game's track and car count?

We sure do!

We were told it's only missing a few tracks/cars, so that gives us 13 cars total, and 8 tracks with 14 variants!

Joking aside, seems like great content, but as Robert said, it would be a shame if this is the ONLY PS+ game in October.

If this is the free PS4 game for that month then this whole thing sucks. If its not then we are cool. I get that things change but man when you build expectations (intentionally or unintentionally) and then don't meet them you can upset some people. I think its not unreasonable for people to get upset at this but at the same time maybe keep it in perspective.

It's really just a failure of getting the product out in time for their plan to make sense.

In the end Sony didn't need an "almost free, almost complete" AAA racing game at launch to entice people into selling out PS4's and dramatically increasing their PS+ subscriber numbers.

And adding ~10-11 months to your development time is really expensive. Likely a lot of emergency crunch time in there.. more money spent re-creating demos for trade shows, magazines, etc.. re-thinking their marketing strategy.

Sony needs to be careful with the loss-leader attitude.. sales mean nothing if people are going to expect everything post-not-profitable hardware for nearly free. From a business standpoint it makes the most sense to back-track on the initial promise and deal with the mild PR hit. They'll throw a few extra thirsty Indie's some bones for some extra PSN+ free titles and make more people happy at far less of a cost.

edit: It's also quite possible the communication from the developers was never accurate.. along with claiming it was barely missing anything from retail they also called it an F2P version of the game.. that never made a lick of sense.. you don't make money on F2P giving people a near complete product. I think someone goofed on describing their plan.

Are new games free to those who pay 60 bux for them?

The content of this discussion titled "PS+ version of Driveclub will have 5 tracks (1 country) and 10 cars." is what I'm inferring to. That's why I'm posting that in this thread.

The free part.

I'm a Plus member, but I still pay a fee for every month.

The month they give me a demo is wasting my money.

I don't understand the need for more clarity. This version of the game will be free to Plus members.

Absolutely this.

Though even in those early threads you could see all the drive-by posts of people expecting the full game.

I'm not so much bothered by the amount of content as much as the lack of splitscreen.

I mean, what racing game doesn't have split-screen? That's ridiculous. This is what im most disappointed about.

What does the "full" version of the game have?

If the "full" version has way, way more stuff...I'll have to agree that it's more like a demo than a full game, even if the demo is a very full-featured and enjoyable demo.

And mind you, that's okay - demo isn't a bad word. I still believe PS+ provides fantastic value. I still believe that once PS4 has a larger library of retail titles, it will provide value in its "Instant Game Collection" that is on par with what it does for PS3 and PS Vita. If in 2 years that isn't the case, I will be disappointed. But for now, it's all good.

Thats not whats happening here

I honestly see nothing wrong with them throwing a way to try this game for free with the PLUS subscription

Are we to assume this takes the place of a free game?

I never claimed they called it normal DriveClub. My point was 'PS+ Edition' isn't a phrase they'd ever used before, so it's not something that conveyed the amount of content, so then we have to go to what they claimed, which is disingenuous.

If they'd have called DC Prologue, there would be a content expectation with that name that people would have understood.

That is a good amount of content for the PS+ version, much more than you would expect from a demo.

Sounds like there will be 3 ways to buy the game:
1) Retail blu-ray disc ($60)
2) Full digital download ($60)
3) PS+ Edition upgrade (price unknown)

It is sickening...Just buy the full game i don't understand the griping at all. I think they are doing us a solid for even making a PS+ version
Yeah they did a huge favor by putting in the subscription that we actually pay for.

I don't think people should get ripped on for stating that they expected more. I definitely expected more based on how much they hyped up the PS+ edition. The number of tracks seems fairly low, but more disappointing is the likely lack of environmental variety.

And they say you can still get the platinum trophy just through playing the PS+ version?!

It's lame to back on what they said, even if they were vague about it at the time, but didn't Sony sell GT5 Prologue for $40 with only 8 tracks? I don't remember so much controversy over that.

You said this was okay because it's free to Plus members.

I pointed out that I'm paying a subscription for games every month and, instead, I'm being given a demo.

I'm not keen on the precedent is sets; I don't want to be paying for demos with my subscription.

Other than the launch, PS+ has only done one game a month for PS4.

So yeah, if Drive Club is the only thing on PS+ that month for PS4, I think a lot of people are going to be mad. If it's just an extra and there's still a free game that month, I think people will view it as a cool little extra.

Anyone saying that those complaining are 'entitled gamers' need to get the fuck off their high horse. Most people aren't whining in a general sense, demanding that they get 'free AAA' shit just because they have PS+. These people are upset because they felt as if they were mislead.

Can you describe the PS Plus version for us?

Yes, the PS Plus version will be the exact same as the full version, except that it may be missing a few assets such as cars or tracks, that will be found in the full version. However the online multiplayer, the asynchronous challenges and the single player campaign will all be present in the PS Plus version. The PS Plus version gives us to the biggest open community, day one. This game is all about socialising.

So I don't know how someone defines 'a few missing', but I don't think 10 cars and 5 tracks falls within that scope. If, say 45 out of the 50 cars are missing, is that just 'a few'?

Yes this seems correct. I don't have a problem if it's like an add-on along with another game for October.

If that's your stance then fine.

I would be more upset for something like Ground Zeroes than a free piece of content to an anticipated game which probably feels more than a demo than the 30USD MGS GZ.

It isn't free when you're paying for access to that version via your PS+ subscription.

If you're a Plus member it's not free?

And that launch month it was supposed to be DriveClub PS+ Edition alongside Resogun.

So I'd say there's a pretty good chance we'll get another game alongside DriveClub PS+ Edition in October.

I'd take a 5 track/10 car "demo" of a true showcase racer over Mercenary Kings any month out of the year.
