PS4 System Update 1.70 is Live

I'm in a party and every single time I get into a lobby or leave a lobby I get a notification each time stating "The chat audio is currently set to [Prioritize Party]. You can change this setting on the party screen." I can't figure out a way to turn it off. It's annoying.

I know I'm in the minority here, but I really dislike the new comments format used in Live from Playstation. The word flow is terrible; so many letters are cut off from words and pushed to a separate line. It makes it far more difficult and choppy to read comments. Not worth the trade off of fitting more comments at a time.

Agree, I put it in full screen so I dont have to read comments, if I wanted to read them I would minimize it.

New comments section looks amazing to me. A welcomed change. It flows a lot better in my opinion.

Saw a few pages back that the 15 minute recording bug isn't fixed? Is this for real? Absolute embarrassing joke if true.

I had stopped using the share button entirely because it never seemed to work correctly. Today I gave it another try, played Trials a bit and when I finally got gold on a level I was working on, I double pressed the share button and checked the video folder and it was empty. I double pressed the share button again and got an 8 second clip. I played another level and this time held the button and in the menu hit square which saved some random amount of time between the 8 second clip and when I saved using square. So basically either the system is broken or insanely convoluted.

I thought/expect that double pressing the share button will save the last 15 minutes of the game, it seems that double pressing the share button only starts recording or something. It's so unintuitive that I'd rather just not bother with it.

Also, I watched the video it spit out and it looked terrible and the framerate looked very low or something. I dunno, some people seem to have no problems with it but I have yet to have it work well.

Capture quality only got better simply because Facebook was the main source of footage, but it's still has much better options now.

No I know that moving the files to an HD is much better than using Facebook upload, but I was wondering if the PS4 captures better quality internally now. It still seems like it's the same though. Thanks for the response

I saw that when I tried to play CoD. Really hope it gets fixed soon. Would pop up like 6 times before we got in a match

It does, but the words getting cut to another line is not good. Whoever tested this didn't find that unreadable?

How much better is the streaming quality? Did they increase the bit rate as well?

I want to know the bitrate as well. To me a few XB1 streams looked a little better? Is HD streaming set to HD by default or you have to select it?

I like the aesthetic improvements to the keyboard (and the addition of L2+Triangle to a access symbols). Touchpad typing is a welcome addition even if it's less accurate than the dpad and slower than the gyro. If the capability is there they should take advantage of it, someone will prefer. If nothing else it's another option of accessibility for disabled gamers.

Thats what I thought was going to happen. Guess I probably won't use it. I would have loved for double tap to be the last 15 minutes. I was one of the people pre-patch whose 15 minute recordings ALWAYS worked. I wish it was recording all the time and the double tap was save :( So its pretty much, double tap before playing anything in case you want to save the gameplay

Alright so the option to stream in Best HD and Best are grayed out in the share menu. Any fix for it? I mean, I have a 50/25 mbps wifi connection...

Edit: Hmm, it let me change when I played Killzone, but not when I played Tomb Raider...

The way I understand it double tapping share STARTS a recording. It doesn't save one. Supposedly just entering the share menu saves the recording. I think since the update there is a button you can press in the share menu ( either square woe triangle. I forget which.) that will save a video or screenshot. Apparently you can now just say "playstation, save video clip" into the mic or camera and it will save. You'd think double tapping share would save since pressing share or kong holding share saves a screenshot.

Could you turn off your controller without logging out before this update? I remember trying that with Netflix around launch and it would pause the video if you did it. Now it continues playing. Same for WWE network.

Wait, so how does the new Share menu work? If I play for an hour without touching the share button, then I go and click "save video" does that save four 15min clips or is it just the last 15 mins now?

Yea that certainly seems to be how it works, but not how Sony says it works very strange.

Also tried saying playstation, save video clip/playstation, save video/playstation, save clip but none of those got any reaction past the first playstation prompt popup

Exactly. It's much more difficult to read and is very annoying.

Having so many words at the end of lines be unfinished and then letters from those words cut into the next line, makes the flow much worse. I understand people like it that more comments fit on the screen at once (I do too), but there's no way the word flow is better. A lot of people think the trade off is worth it; I personally don't.

It might help if you gave some idea of what that says. I even checked the tweet and the attached picture is just highlighting something in Japanese.

Opted to post the original. You coulddddd run it through Google translate. Gist of it is that you can archive streams and link your ustream to youtube so they auto upload there. But they posted it like they shouldn't be advocating this on the official twitter. At least that was my interpretation.

Okay, thanks. Edited version of your post is much better, I was about to mention how I'm browsing gaf on my phone and trying to do Google translate is a pain in the ass.

-Settings - Audio: You can now force the PS4 to output 5.1 channel audio over HDMI even if it detects 7.1 channel support.
Thank you based Sony. For listening. I was afraid it would take them forever since the problem was so isolated, but they listened. Huge props for that.

Now add DNLA and I can officially retire my PS3 bluray controller.

Anyone else having terrible audio drop out issues? Mine drops in and out randomly, and high pitched beeps and sounds come out.

http://instagram.com/p/nb_SDQByWd/

I've isolated it to at least my HDMI switcher, because when i plug it into my TV directly the audio seems to work fine through the TV speakers and not drop out.

This used to work fine before the 1.70 update. Also, I hadn't even toggled HDCP on or off. Doing so produces WORSE results.

Or you know, the system could automatically detect and turn HDCP on and off depending on the application being used.

Its implementation is pretty half assed.

that makes too much fucking sense though!

and what does it really accomplish? $20 in hardware bypasses HDCP and so fuck their halfassed implementation, i can just stick to using a $20 splitter that conveniently strips HDMI.

Here's my video of the PS4 video capturing not working once again, even in 1.70:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p380jbhMMDM

Notice Im in Killzone, press Share, and while a screen shot is captured, absolutely no video is. In fact, it shows a ShareFactory Metal Gear video I had uploaded to Facebook earlier!

(My settings are set to record 5 minutes and the PS4 had been sitting in Killzone over 5 minutes of time.)

There's also a noise reduction option in the Blu-ray player.
I didn't have time to mess with it and see if it enhances the picture quality. It is set on level 1 by default. You can either turn it off or increase it to level 2.

I should try the Barry lyndon Blu-ray because the ps4 couldn't handle it.

Didn't have a chance to watch the video yet but did you double tap the share button to mark the beginning of recording? Tapping the share button does not prep the video to be saved anymore. That would explain why video was not saved in your case. Saving screenshots still works pretty much the same and is really easy.

Awesome, you can now multitask watching streams with a double tap of the PS button. It has to rebuffer each time but it's much better than before. Previously, it would kick you back to the home screen so you would have to search for streams again.

Geesh, ice cold.
Man, I love that movie

This may have been mentioned already but I bumped into a new undocumented feature while watching a Blu-ray tonight. You can press the PS button and it will bring up the ps4 ui instead of asking if you want to quit the disc.

Yup, can confirm. This is actually a small megaton for me, did not expect them to fix it so fast/ at all.

It's not as snappy as from a game (switches something in the HDMI it seems), but it works even with blu-rays that have their own menu kind of way (the ones that never allow you to resume and use their own bookmarks etc.). It auto-pauses the movie and you switch right back to it.

However, you can't fully multitask. Launching a game or and app like Vidzone and then going back to the movie will launch the disc right from start again. So it's not 100% what I wanted but ok. (the other way around, launching a previously suspended game works fine as expected)
BUT you can use any OS app like the internet browser, Live from Playstation and even MU, it also allows you to switch back&forth via the double PS button press. You can also witch users.

They still don't show the name&thumbnail of a Blu-ray in the menu though.
btw the new Noise reduction thing can be found in the DVD/BD settings menu during play (I set it off though because I don't want that for BDs :p )

My audio sounded canned after I first ran the update. I had to switch to HDMI, then optical again to fix it.

+ update nearly bricked my PS4
+ FFXIV doesn't work anymore. Which is bs. I had some time when I got home, but no, had to update. And now this.

1.70 fucking sucks.

User djskribbles from Beyond3D measured the intensity of LED light on Dualshock 4.
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1844233&postcount=5254

djskribbles said:
Measured the light bar on each different setting. I used a colorimeter and a spectrometer which are typically used for color calibration on displays, but they also measure luminance/light. They're probably not 100% accurate compared to a dedicated light meter, but they should be close enough. I averaged the readings with a continuous measurement between both meters.

Standard/Bright - ~37.9 candelas per squared meter (or 11.06 foot lamberts)
Medium - ~21.8 candelas per squared meter (or 6.36 foot lamberts) - 42.5% dimmer
Dim - ~11.8 candelas per squared meter (or 3.44 foot lamberts) - 68.9% dimmer

So my guesses of ~60% and ~40% lower were pretty close. :)

For comparison, generally ISF/THX calibrators calibrate flatpanel displays to have a peak white measurement of 30-35 foot lamberts for a dark home theater environment. VA LCD panels usually have a black level measurement between 0.012 - 0.014 foot lamberts. IPS LCD panels usually have a black level measurement between 0.04 - 0.05 foot lamberts.

How can a product feature like share, that is advertised as much as the console and has a freaking dedicated button, just doesnt work ?

90% of the time it just doesnt recored the correct last 15 minutues. For everyone it seems.

Mind blowing really.

It's exactly how Sony say it works, you are using it wrong.

Go into the Share menu and press Option to see for yourself. There's 2 button configs for the Share button you can choose from.

The default:

  • short press = display menu (to save either video of previous 15 mins/screenshot)
  • long press = take screenshot
  • double press = START new video recording

The easy screenshot variant:

  • short press = take screenshot
  • long press = display menu (to save either video of previous 15 mins/screenshot)
  • double press = START new video recording

So you should never use double press unless you know that you want to record what you are going to play. Double press is not for retroactive recording the previous 15 minutes.

The problem is that the recording of the previous 15 minutes is bugged and sometimes is a completely different video clip from long ago.

You shouldn't need to tell it to start recording as it is always meant to be recording.

Did someone cover the the updated Music Unlimited OS app yet?

Sharing MU content only works for single songs (you have to be in the app and hover over the song you want to share).
You do it via the normal Share button, it gives you then an additional option:
KK9ULsW.jpg

actually it goes right to the song and then you can confirm:
DfORqYV.jpg

It only supports sharing via facebook & twitter, should add PSN maybe?

The app itself seems to be a bit improved. Multi-tasking works better as it doesn't take so long loading the app again from the main menu (double PS button press works anyway).

You can still use it across accounts (free MU sub forever! ;D ) and the switch accounts option now makes it even more convenient.

However, it still doesn't mute the music from any game... So I guess that's a "feature" and not a bug. Really hampers the ingame music OS feature, adding mp3 support won't change that.

The problem is that the recording of the previous 15 minutes is bugged and sometimes is a completely different video clip from long ago.

This, for me, seems to have been resolved, but my advice would be, if you do something you want to capture, immediately go to the share menu in either fashion and press Triangle, this will manually create a video of the last 15 minutes or however long you have been playing the game and then begin again from that point.

you might want to tell it to start if you know there is something coming up you want to record.

Although for me, it seems like the 'spur of the moment' memory catching should be the primary action, so one of the share button functions should be to save the last xx mins without interrupting gameplay by going to a menu
