Even if they really used those models, there's still modeling everything aside from that, which is effort considering GF only did tile-based graphics before. There's a lot of breaking new ground and re-evaluating old ground that went into XY that probably took a lot of their time and made them rush against the engine features and Pokedex.

Since this will be a remake/sequel of Gen 3 game do you think because of the new story they can some how place pokemon from lets say Gen 5 into the remakes? maybe something in the new story about undiscovered pokemon?

When did Nintendo start this practice of casual megatons? I'm kinda weary because the original Ruby/Sapphire games were part of a reason for a long hiatus I had from the franchise, but with all the things done in the series since then, this might turn out to be better than expected.

Well, X & Y were riddled with "Hey do you know the Hoen region? Ah, you will soon!" hints in the maingame so it's not a big surprise. The announcement itself out of nowhere is pretty

Kind of. Pokemon Colosseum and XD were structured somewhat differently from the handheld games and only featured a few dozen Pokemon that could be "captured" at fixed levels for the most part.
The mythical "console Pokemon game that saves the Wii U and makes Nintendo billions" wouldn't be much like those games, the handheld titles, or the MMO some people ask for. It would have to be an entirely different reworking of the classic formula.
I would want such a game to use a completely different battle system and take most of its cues from Xenoblade, X, and FFXII.

The stars aligned for me when A Link Between Worlds was released. Holy crap, what a great handheld game.

Heh I predominantly choose the Fire-Type first, but I'll probably choose Mudkip as I can just transfer my Speed Boost Blaziken from Y. Fuck the bullshit, Mega Swampert here I come. Hopefully that form double downs on Swampert's physical strength and bulk, hell buff that SpA a bit to make him more of a mixed threat. Huuuuuge potential with possible re-typing and ability changes as well.

No one expected a R/S remake this particular year. I've had discussions with a couple of others about this matter and they for the most part concluded that a 3rd version/sequel of XY was the more likely one to come out this year and the R/S remake next year. This was due to there being some pattern in how Gamefreak has handled remake releases.
