The Order: 1886 New Previews, More

After clearing the first combat area, we were treated to a cutscene that featured Black Water. As the short cinematic played out, it was almost impossible to not be impressed by the visual fidelity on display. The ante was upped when it seamlessly segued back into gameplay, and it was starkly apparent that both cutscenes and gameplay were visually on-par with one another. It was obvious that the first section looked good, but given an area to explore with no distractions, this became incredibly apparent.

Although there wasn't much to get into in the small safehold (apart from looking at a note and turning it over), the action quickly resumed again, as we were tasked with dragging a fallen comrade to safety.
This is when the demo of The Order: 1886 ended -- approximately five minutes after it began. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed -- not in what I saw, that was mostly great, but in that I couldn't spend more time with it. The cinematic approach to visuals looked fantastic in practice, and it seems as if the technology-driven weaponry will be a real treat to use. However, five minutes is a tiny sample size, especially for a game with this kind of potential. Hopefully next time we see The Order: 1886, it's more than just an appetizer.

Love that slow-mo effect with the sidearm. The change of stance while shooting is a nice touch.

Lol at the people who were already writing this off after that Twitch nonsense. The game looks great as is, and with the few extra months of polish I have no doubts the final product will be even better.

GOD... Everything about this game pulls me in so hard. Gonna be a long year waiting for this one, but I'm glad they have more time to work on it.

Btw, I really hope they do something about the tearing. It's quite jarring.

Why is everyone focusing on the Eurogamer preview? All the others have been quite positive and the footage we got today corrects several of my issues with the stream from the other day.

They seem to be making the same mistake previewing the game to the media as they do to everyone else. The previews seem to say it looks great but everything else is bog standard Gears type TPS fare and either it's unremarkable or there is not enough to get a good impression of the game. Sony and RAD are not doing themselves any favours.

Just tuned in. Don't even know which in the OP to watch first, but what the fuck. That looks basically cgi and insane with the combat effects.

EDIT: There are too many GIF's in the OP man, shit is murdering my browser lol.

I suggest the Gametrailers vid.

Because it validates their agendas. Same reason anyone ever focuses on just one thing to "prove" their point

This game looks very nice, but the gameplay looks to be incredibly uninspired and average.

My expectations after I saw their initial teaser trailer were pretty high. A shame they squabbled the opportunity and went with a vanilla shooter instead of what it could have been.

Man, reading the bit about inspecting the note and the stuff about some possible sleuthing made me wish this was a Horror/Mystery game set in the same era and conflict.

Please elaborate on exactly what it "could have been"

Looking good, but not looking good enough for a 2014 release. Now im glad they asked for the time, and that Sony was cool about giving it to them.

Hyped for February!

why ? did they leak something ?
Press portal account details got posted on twitter or something and Sony finally realised everyone has been using it for years to download direct feed footage. After that they changed the password and decided to exclusively post videos on their YT channel from now on.
Developers themselves have the option to send direct feed footage to the press though. Gamersyde unfortunately is probably not included there either most of the time.

because that's the only one I read. I don't have an agenda but the preview did validate my beliefs. This was the first time I've read a preview in months.

Ugh I hope they add some animation or feedback for when enemies get hit. Looks jarring that they are being hit but nothing happens.

They seem to only react on death. Even the pistol shots didn't seem to give a reaction.

I'm surprised how many sites are showing The Order 1886 screenshots taken from blurry online videos. Why isn't Sony providing razorsharp screenshots taken from the game itself?

Not too up on the technical side of these things, but I thought FPS drops and screen-tearing were inherent to each other? Presuming the tearing isn't a playback issue (and hell, there's only a couple of instances of it), how is it happening without any slowdown or FPS drops?

Not that it makes any difference like. Again, presuming that it's the engine, they'll have those knocked on the head by release, no bother.

Hmm, not as down on this as I was before after that Gametrailers interview. Hopefully EG's concerns about the weapons "lacking punch" are realised too. Even if the game isn't reinventing the wheel, they've got to make sure the player feels like they're actually doing big damage.

My biggest wish for this game is that it's mostly about the halfbreeds/werewolves than the rebels, but we'll see what happens.
