Forza Horizon 2 announced (360, Xbox One), releasing this fall

How long do you expect Microsoft to support "you"?

You're living in the past. Progress happens.

you're living in the past if you're an early adopter. If you're a mainstream customer you may not even have bought a 360 yet, and this fall is when you jump in. Personally I think MS/Sony should be encouraging people to upgrade and showing them software that makes them want to do that - but there are still millions of people that will not have XB1 for a few years yet, so it is sensible for 3rd parties to continue to address them.

That's not the point. It's that the game will look only somewhat better on XB1 than 360, but won't represent a "generational" leap. MS will then keep 360 version in the shadows to try to get more people to buy the heavily publicized and marketed version and maybe even buy an XBone for it, as they hoped with TF.

You can't compare Titanfall's development to FH2's development like that.

Open-world streaming engine and closed-circuit RAM-load engine are pretty different things.

Also, lightning engine should be completely different, especially if weather is in.

Not to mention different programing for CPU/GPU if we're talking in differences in 30/60 fps. And throw in "social" media things, so we're talking about different scripts all over the place.

Horizon 2 will probably share all car models from the Forza 5, but I am not sure is there anything similar in their engines. I may be wrong, of course.

Horizon was built off of the modified Forza 4 engine, and with Forza 5 Turn 10 knew full well that Horizon 2 was coming. I'm sure that the tech is flexible enough, and Playground are supremely capable developers, judging by their first game.

"Why are they releasing it on the 360? They need to push the One!"

vs.

"Wow, they really killed the 360 off fast after One came out. The game support is dead."

I loved horizon, but the campaign was pretty short and the multiplayer never grabbed me.

I'm hoping there's some variety in the setting. Horizon didn't even match the scale and diversity of Test Drive Unlimited, which came out in 2005.

Couldn't the same be said for Sony too?

Overall, as long as a huge portion of sales come from current gen version (a la Watchdogs) then I don't see how First Party support of both consoles will make a difference.

Even though Forza Horizon 2 is of a more casual/mainstream nature than Motorsport, the game won't appeal to as many people as Motorsport did anyway. I view it in a similar way as Driveclub vs. GT. Driveclub is the more casual game but GT will appeal to more people since the series has been around longer and is a more noteworthy release.

So yeah, I don't think Forza Horizon 2 coming out to the Xbox 360 will greatly hurt people who want to buy an XB1 for Forza Horizon 2. The game is pretty niche so many weren't going to buy an XB1 just to play the game anyway.

I suppose you also have a VHS player somewhere? How much support do you expect there?

Sometimes it´s time to move on.

I would compare this to that DVDs are still being released, more than VHS tapes...

They said that they are doing this like Titanfall where they try and backport it somehow. The XOne version should be the better one by a huge margin. Probably 1080p/60 vs 700-ish/25-30fps.

Goalposts. Meet your new spot. But don't get too comfortable, I have a feeling you'll be moving again real soon.

I'm not moving any goal posts? There were people who foolishly believed that 60FPS would come out of the delay. Horizon doesn't have a history of being 60FPS and the scope of the game relative to its sister franchise means that 60FPS isn't a priority if at all possible.

Yep.
I think we should wait and see how the game looks before judging the decision haha.
ntkrnl has been right a bunch, and didn't he say the game looks amazing?
The 360 version could just achieve feature parity + same art style with completely different graphics.

MS saving me from having to get a Xb1 yet again!

Love me some Horizon and the first one looked great on 360.

I agree. I get third parties going cross gen, but a first party game doing it seems weird to me. As the hardware manufacturer, Microsoft should be pushing people to jump on board with the Xbox One instead of giving them reasons to delay that purchase. I mean, Forza 5 wasn't crossgen, hard to see why they'd go back.

Playground isn't a first party studio though. They need to survive.

Its a port down from the X1 version with a different team similar to Respawn/Bluepoint. FH2 is built from F5 base.

Yes I know that, I'm not talking about the graphics. If it's being released for Xbox 360, why should I buy an Xbox One for it?

I was planning to buy XB1 when this or QB came out, but I guess Microsoft gave me an another reason to stick with 360 for now.

IMO, only the former statement is based on reality.

The latter is a ridiculous statement in the face of video game history.

60fps seems like an unrealistic expectation.

Xbox One version will be 30fps.

I don't know why all of you are angry they are supporting the 360, at least this time they are, and not dropping the system like they did with the original xbox.

Does anyone even mind if they drop 360 support? We've had that generation for 8 years already, I don't think people would be too torn up about it.

So will Forza Horizon 2 receive the same hate Driveclub got if it's 30fps or is 30fps ok now?

Driveclub's coming out on a platform that was touted to be rather powerful/capable; we all know the XOne isn't so expectations are different.

30fps are never preferable but really, it's the XOne, you gotta be a fool expecting more from that machine.

I'm so looking forward to this.

The first Horizon was brilliant, and adding weather is fantastic... I'm curious if this means it's going to be coming to mainline Forza games?

I do wonder if Microsoft is announcing so much early because they just have no faith in their ability to keep things from leaking?

Works for me.

Have no intention of picking up XBOne (yet), but Forza & Horizon are my favorite racing franchises to date.

Looks like my 360 actually has some gas left in the tank come holiday season. Yippee!

So 720p on Xbox 360 and 792p on Xbox One?

I'm not expected a huge graphical difference between them.

Just like Watch Dogs PS3 vs PS4, amirite? not much of a difference, just more pixels.

face palm.

Also, Forza 5 is 1080p/60, why would horizon be 792p at a 30fps target? I'm expecting 1080p/30 just like Drive Club with full day/night transitions.

People really hate crossgen, huh? Im excited for the game. More people will get to play it it now is all. And I'll get to play the best version of it. I don't see what's to hate.
