Little Big Planet 3 Shown PS4 (November 2014)

This reveal was marred for me because I know GAF will continue debating the physics thing until the end of time. I was pleasantly surprised that they've seemingly cancelled Hub and just continued with the existing platform on PS4. Wonder if costumes from the first two will carry over.

I'm sorry but I can't get behind this game anymore. I bought the first 2 with hopes of unlimited replayability which did not happen. That feeling goes away quick and they still kept the floaty jumps.

If you learn it and don't treat it like Mario, it's manageable imo. I platinum trophied the first game within 48 hours, which was no small feat with The Bunker. The jumping is easy once you learn that materials have different traction and momentum gets you different distances. In the real world, you don't just jump off an edge without a running start and expect to fly 6 feet. It's kind of a necessary evil because the games creation engine functions off real weight, momentum, acceleration and traction. What kind of natural movement does a jumping burlap sack have anyway?

Either way, the issue is overblown because jumping mechanics were completely editable in LBP2.

That's the thing. "If you learn it... it's manageable." isn't what most people are looking for when they sit down with this type of game.

I like how movement between layers seem quite improved, not to mention a lot more layers, At least 6-7.

played every lbp game so far and will play this one. hope sumo do a good job, i like the multiple character type idea.

was so happy to hear some shugo tokamaru music too. i think i like this franchise so much in part because it keeps using so much of my fav music, like go team with the first trailer for the original, passion pit for lbp2.

My buddy and I are fooken hyped for this. Hopefully I can get my bro and roommate to play, too, so we have a full complement.

God damn, Thrakier, is any thread safe from the constant 60fps posts?

I'm a major fan of these games but I can't help but think that this is a missed opportunity for making LBP a 3D platformer. New characters and skills is a nice idea and LBP Hub is on the way without us really knowing what it is and I do want LBP 3 but I do think a good 3D platformer would have been the smart move here.

Is not 3d because mm themselves are leading the way with a new IP doing that. No need to step on their toes doing a less impressive version of what they are doing.

So I've never played LBP before, but was wondering does this game have a good single player mode? Or is the game more about creating your own levels and playing them?

SP levels are fantastic, community maps can be better than the main maps, but the overall quality of the SP maps are top notch

the previous lbp games have had short but creative and charming single player (especially lbp2 and lbp vita). i enjoy them single player.

it's hard to say if this one will have a good one because sumo digital are new to the franchise and haven't done any platformers before

Looks great. Can't wait to see what people make with these new possibilities.

Btw, at the end of the video Sumo Digital appears as developer, which is great.

Thank you both so much. Will be looking out for this :)

Pretty much. This is one of those games I REALLY want to like but just can't. It's just not very fun. The absolute best part about this game was the MGS tie-in but otherwise this game has never been able to keep my attention. Real shame too because the general idea is pretty great.

Media Molecule is probably working on something akin to this, and they didn't want to make the titles too similar maybe?

This is why I am excited for LBP3 and more people should be. LBP Vita proved that you can have a fantastic SP without MM, and have a crazy amount of User Generated stuff that will blow away your expections.

MM have laid a truly amazing groundwork for LBP and I am fully confident that Sumo, like Tarsier, can deliver a great entry to the series. This is one franchise that defies the opinions of message boards. People love this series, regardless of what you read online. The reaction last night to this at the theater was one of the largest of the night.

I really hope so. Although I wish it would have stayed with the HUB idea so that more people can play the multiplayer levels and leave the single player story and unlocks for those who pay.

I'm pretty sure the "floaty discussion" is just a pseudo-discussion - what people really turns of is 30FPS and the lack of responsiveness they are used from Mario and Co. It's not the physics which are off, it's the framerate. It has that typical "slow reaction" feel of a 30FPS game. And that's uber noticable in a Jump'n Run, where 60FPS is pretty much a industry gold standard for years now. Why they consistently decide against it, no one knows. But sure, the most important thing is that it LOOKS great.
You're kidding yourself if 60 frames-per-second is going to be the end-all magical answer to all of LBP's control issues. It's still looking floaty and imprecise to the point even its own developers can't play it properly.

Sumo actually made a lot of LBP DLC levels.

The E3 crowd got super happy as well.

I wonder if this might get ported to the vita...

A timed exclusive for VITA would have really livened things up...

They have gone on record though of saying they want to move on from LBP.

This was very neat and the players did a good job of making it seem fun I think during the conference. I was prepared to cringe but it turned out fine.

I loved that the demo seems genuine and actually people playing the game how 99% of us play ( not the talking part)
Felt real and made it look a lot more fun.

Puts other so called "demos" to shame.

Wasn't this supposed to be FTP not going to drop 60$ for a Bend game.
LBP Hub is free to play. And this isn't Bend?

could this dates be place holders or mistake?
The conference said November, so it would be the quickest announcement > delay ever. :p

I just wish the color of the friends was a bit different. They come across kind of same-y color wise. But I get why they are so muted looking.
You can do what you want with them.

This is such a magical little series. I love it, even though I'm shit at making levels. Was a pleasant surprise last night.

Lol. Yeah, the developers playing their own game couldn't control the characters properly because of the jumping physics, and not because they were experiencing lag while playing it live on stage.

Good grief.

I loved the real world physics, far from unplayable, especially since I aced every level on both LBP1 and LBP2.

Haha yeah I audibly gasped when the logo showed up on stage with no fanfare whatsoever.

Haha. Same here. I wasn't expecting it at all. I like how the didn't even lead up to it. It was just BAM. LBP3.

Best gameplay demo of the day for me. They didn't try to fake it. They just played the game and had fun. The whole theater was laughing.

I frigging LOVE LBP, and this reveal had me grinning through the whole thing, even when the demoers were messing up. Some people take shit way too seriously, wanting everything to be just perfect, but they handled the flubs well, and it was a charming reveal. Perfect for LBP.

I also never had trouble with the controls in this series. It always felt great to me. I never tried to play it like a Mario platformer, or the bajillion retro rip-offs. I liked that LBP, while being a familiar 2D platformer, was its own thing. Like Killzone 2, I felt the controls of LBP gave it a unique identity. I like them.

Loveeee me some LBP. But the demo didn't really click with me. The new characters are fun but the graphics didn't wow me. Even if it's 1080/60 the levels didn't look that much different. I was just kinda hoping they were working on something new and crazy (maybe they are?). But at least they are filling a gap in the very depressing holiday lineup for me.

Of course they are, that's why this game is made by Sumo Digital and not MM. It's as if everybody forgot about the PS4 reveal: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TYY-J3ckeSI

Incredible that this is still happening, isn't it?
