did activision sign this deal with sony since microsoft was busy making deals with EA for titan fall? did microsoft even bother approaching activision for exclusives on destiny?
No they would both not be vaporware. Titanfall was coming out regardless and Insomniac could have published the games through another publisher that would have let them keep the IP. In each case (destiny dlc and xbone exclusives) money is exchanged to keep an existing product off another set of consoles.
Edit: Whatever this is OT. Let's get back to being outraged about a rumor from amazon.
Funny how you neglected to mention Titanfall, where potential PS4 sales were essentially bought out just so MS could keep it as a console exclusive.
Smart move by Sony. They're essentially pushing the game as an exclusive without having to pay the moneyhat. I'm sure the gap in sales between PS4/XBO will be pretty big.
A multiplayer map and a strike sounds more than worthwhile. I much rather have that than the shitty "one hour of extra gameplay" bonuses in Ubisoft games.I dont understand why people are even arguing about this. The most fucked up part is not just the 1 year exclusivity but the content itself sounds so fucking stupid to have 1 year exclusivity. Few skins and a map? Like wtf? Who gives a shit about this kinda stuff?
Not that I encourage any company to moneyhat content but if you are doing it, might as well do something worthwhile. This is beyond stupid.

I have a PS4/XB1 and I think a whole year is way too long for exclusive content. I'm sorry but this will set a very bad precedent. I love you Bungie, but I will not be buying this game now.
Holy shit. That's insanely long for a timed exclusive DLC deal. I figured it would be a couple weeks, a month at most. Sucks for the Xbox crowd.
Wasn't the cod stuff crazy delayed? And let's not talk about Minecraft ps4 mysteriously not making launch and coming out 9 months laterThe Lost and the Damned
Xbox360 February 2009 ---> PlayStation 3 April 2010
How does it benefit customers to have companies adopt the shitty practices of their competitors? It's "payback" only if you care more about Sony "winning" than devs cutting content.MS did the same during the PS360 era it's just payback time

No matter who does this, it's bad for customers and promotes practices that are bad for customers. I really don't think you get my point when you start banging on about Microsoft doing it too.
No, but why should I give a shit what Sony is concerned about? They're not looking out for me, I just pay their bills. It benefits Sony customers. Is Sony supposed to be concerned about Xbox owners?
I guess you missed the part where MS even funded the game to be finished? Or does that count as a money hat as well? You sound like a salty fanboy who is happy to get revenge on a fanbase because of "reasons".

And no, it doesn't "benefit" Sony customers. The devs made content and then cut it out of the game in some of the versions. That doesn't benefit anyone unless you somehow think other people getting less content is a benefit.
You know Sony has "money-hatted" content before, right? Not to mention the GTA games in the PS2 era...I'm cackling. MS finally get to taste the fruit of their money-hatting practice but in reverse. This is what happens when you introduced this kind of atrocious practices. Sooner or later, your competitors will pick up on it and do the same thing that you've been doing to them.
Again, why do I care about what makes Sony money? I am not Sony. I do not have stocks in Sony. Sony could sell a billion PS4s or less than a million and it would not affect me.Sony customers getting more IS a benefit. That's all this is about. They are trying to make their platform the most attractive to potential customers.

So...entire game locked from other platform such as DR3, that's fine. But locked bit of content in a game that is available to practically everyone, that's not cool? So did you equally vote with your wallet on every third party moneyhat exclusive? I fail to see the difference.
I personally don't like any of it, but if you were ok with Moneyhatted third party exclusives before and somehow this is the thing that grinds your gears, I don't get it.

What matters to me is there is no actual benefit to customers, and there is in fact a loss for customers not on Sony systems because Sony is intentionally releasing them an incomplete game. And worse for me, if Destiny on the PS4 is successful (which it will be), its success will promote more deals of this kind and encourage more developers to not ship complete games.
MS funded DR3, this is not the same thing.
See, this where I am getting confused. People say that MS "funding" a project is not moneyhatting, but if Microsoft's funding keeps the title off the Sony/Nintendo platforms, what does it make it then?
Still just "funding"? Sounds weird to me....
