Destiny PS4 Timed Exclusives will last until "At least Fall 2015"

Well that sucks because i'm planning on getting Destiny for Xbox One.

At least until fall 2015 ? that's a damn long time, is the DLC stuff really cool or more like we have something the other console don't that at the end of the day not many people will care about... ?

There's a map for multi, exclusive gears and weapons ? sounds like nothing to brag about.

I'm glad I have a PS4 and can get the exclusive content. That said, the timed DLC shit is stupid and annoying on both sides.

I will never choose a game over the exclusive content. I choose it based on what platform it runs the best on and what platform my friends are on.

It's the most important content there ever was.

Preordering and canceling is a breeze on amazon I don't see a real reason not to do it if you're interested in trying the game. Feels like you're just being a drama queen.

totally agreed. even if he gets a beta code he is most likely going to go in with the attitude of forcing himself to not like it no matter what the game does and find faults so he can say he was right and will rather play the halo collection.

The funniest thing I'm reading in this thread

Xbox Owners acting like priority dlc is their birth right and not realizing anyone from Sony to Nintendo can do the same things. I mean I can see you being use to it, but bungie survived before Microsoft, and they will survive with out being locked down to Microsoft.

The second thing, people complaining about $5 they can throw down for a pre order to get themselves a beta code. If you were really a life long Bungie fan, you spent hundreds on their products already. $5 is nothing, I would have paid $15 for the alpha, $20 for the beta! That's how good it is! Granted I'm going through withdrawals from the alpha and my veins need more epic sunsets, guns and dancing

Actually, you dont need any money to pre-order. At least not in The Netherlands. Also not on PSN as they dont charge until the game releases. That's how I got my beta code.

You don't have to pay anything. You can pre-order on Amazon and they don't charge you until it ships.

This timed news is making it even harder to get the PS4 version.

I was already thinking of getting this on my Xbox 1 since I'll be on the Master Chief collection all winter. I'm eagerly awaiting how the beta runs on the Xbox 1 next month and how Hardline stacks up. They said 1080p 60fps for the Xbox 1 version, but i'm skeptical.

30fps.

Some of the reactions in here are warranted but I guess Bungie fans kind-of feel how Insomniac fans feel knowing that they made an exclusive for MS that probably won't ever come to PS.

However, as crappy as this is for all gamers even PS4 owners, we can also gather that Sony is making a big deal out of Destiny as Microsoft did for Titanfall. It seems about even to me tbh.

Except...Sunset OverDrive is an exclusive and so is TitanFall. This is coming to Xbox One, and has timed exclusivity for a year. They are not comparable.

He's probably talking about the people who scream "betrayal! Betrayal of the ones who made you big!" People.

Some Xbox people are really butthurt about this just like some PlayStation only owners were when Sunset Overdrive was announced.

I don't mind what insomniac did, I don't want sunset over drive
What I wish they had was a new ratchet or resistance game on Sony though, but time will tell.

If you're into gaming to the point you go on forums, they should have known for about a year now ps4 was getting the special treatment.

You're right, xbox owners have much less to complain about.

Business ethics issues aside, 99% of a game is more than 0% of a game.

They announced a new Ratchet game at E3 for next year. It's a re-imagining of Ratchet and Clank 1.

I'm unlikely to get Destiny either, but this is just the last straw. My main issue with Destiny is, both as a Halo fan and as an FPS fan in general, I just don't think it looks particularly interesting. While there have been many positive impressions coming from the alpha, I often disagree with others' opinions (it's also worth noting that, with the alpha being exclusive to PS4, many of those impressions are coming from people who have never spent any significant amount of time playing Halo), and there's no way for me to check first hand unless I preorder (as someone with serious doubts, why would I?) or I get lucky with a beta code.

And then there's the Master Chief collection, which I know I'll be spending a lot of time with later this year. One would think that they'd be throwing all they've got into combating that, but no.

As a long time fan, I used to worry about Bungie getting themselves into a potentially dangerous position with Destiny - first with it being such a huge project, and such a long-lasting commitment to Activision, of all publishers; and then with it being so closely tied to a single platform holder - but the further this exclusive charade gets, the less I care. If Destiny fails to meet Bungie's and Activision's expectations, they have nobody but themselves to blame.

That said, I'd love to be proven wrong and swayed into supporting - and enjoying - Destiny.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face. If you love Halo I think you'll love this as well. At least try the beta when it comes out. If you look at what you're missing out on as an Xbox player it's not really significant in the grand scheme of things.

By the way I would imagine many if not most people on PS4 came from 360 (like me), so Halo is no stranger to them.

Edit: ah your main issue is the alpha was exclusive to PS4. Well, there's no reason you can't get in on the Xbox One beta if you really want to.

I think it's more the fact that it is a whole year and not a few months like battlefield or cod, that's what made me mad in the first place.

So let me get this straight, it was bad when MS secured timed exclusive dlc for GTA IV, but now that Sony does the same, it's fine somehow. Because of Sunset Overdrive, or whatever. For a moment I thought it always sucked, no matter who did it.

How is this any different than what Ms does with CoD?

It's not any different. You should go back and read the rest of my responses.

Basically what i was getting at is they're all the same, businesses who want to make money and will do what they think is best for business.

it sucks if its as long as amazon is claiming. thats pretty much unheard of right? i'll still be getting destiny on x1, its my only option, hopefully the game has so much content that i never even miss this exclusive stuff.

Did you read the thread? It looks like you didn't read the thread.

Almost no one is happy about this. People have just accepted that it's a part of life now, and have pointed out relevant examples of the same thing happening in the past.

Some jimmies have certainly been rustled in this thread.

And thanks everyone for reminding me that we've still got a month to go before the beta. My fingers are still twitching from the alpha.

But how big will the community be by then for an extra strike probably aimed at lower levels.

If Bungie does this right, hopefully still really big. I certainly hope they keep pumping out content periodically to keep me hooked, any way. I'm foaming at the mouth to just play the damn thing right now, but a year is a long time and lots of games will come out by Fall 2015.

Yeah it's nice when you're on the receiving end, and it's cool to have that on Playstation for once, but exclusive stuff really is BS.

I will still buy CoD for PS4 even though it sucks receiving DLC late.

I'm a Bungie fan. Bought the first Xbox for Halo, and bought X360 for Halo 3.
Last year i decided to buy a PS4 - just because of Destiny.
343 Studios will never be Bungie, and after i abondened Microsoft, I feel pretty damn good!

Well played Sony.

This game is going to be huge, and it is probably going to be solidly in favor of the PS4 in sales and performance. Might as well add content as well.

It is still amazing and shocking to think about seeing the Bungie logo pop up on the PS4 during the Alpha. MS loosing Bungie... wow...

It is crazy how much the tides have changed.

Does anyone buy a game for the exclusive gear? I've never understood this concept. People play with the community their friends are on. Considering the scope of the game this feels like a drop in the bucket

I don't know why peoples panties are bunched up. MS didn't want to give Bungie $500 million for an unproven IP. Activision sold some early access stuff to try and offset the investment.

It's the Strike (co-op mission) and Crucible (competitive MP) map that people are upset about.

I know its more than gear but its more the concept. Is anyone's enjoyment going to be ruined by that loss? Same with the COD DLC and BF4 DLC. I just don't understand why companies even pay for that early. Does it really drive sales?

It always kind of sucks when you are paying full price for a game but still feel like you're still missing out on something because you bought it on the wrong console (or preordered from the wrong shop etc).

To me it's not enough not to buy the game, and usually that extra goodie or two is not that great anyway, but I can see why some people are bothered by the practice.

The praise for timed exclusivity in this thread is insane. I don't really care for it but every time MS announces a deal it's "evil" and "because moneyhat". I guess Sony paid Activsion in peanuts.
I don't know what thread you are reading but in this thread, I'm seeing people defending Microsoft's exclusivity strategy and want GAF to crucify Sony over this timed content.

In general, the hardcore fans of any multiplayer game love to play DLC maps as soon as they're available. So yeah, it drives sales for platforms that have early access to DLCs.

Don't worry, I'll vouch for them.
(it's also worth noting that, with the alpha being exclusive to PS4, many of those impressions are coming from people who have never spent any significant amount of time playing Halo),

Yeesh. Do you think people do/did not own other consoles and just stick to one console manufacturer? What a myopic point of view, especially here on GAF.

Do Halo players somehow have more authoritative/valid opinions of how fun the Destiny alpha is?
I mean I can understand if we're talking about the same line of game (ex: a halo player's impression on Halo 5, a bf player's impression on BF:hardline. However, Destiny isn't Halo.)

How do you feel about impressions of Sunset Overdrive coming from "many" xbox owners who "probably" have never spent any significant amount of time playing Insomniac Games?

somebody needs to leak a convenient sob story about how this poor, poor dlc was gonna be canceled due to lack of budget. But then benevolent Sony arrived with a hat full of money, and generously paid for it's completion so that it may be enjoyed by gamers from all walks of life on Playstation (R) brand consoles.

Well there's the question... Did Sony break off a piece of the game as a timed exclusive or was Bungie asked to create exclusive content in addition to what Bungie would have shipped with the game.

In any case, the weapons and skins are useless, there will be plenty of better things out there to get or upgrade and the game is so large (and will become larger as they add more planets to visit) that a mars strike mission is inconsequential. So who cares, don't see why so many people are crying over this.

This statement here could not be more wrong. I would be willing to be money the MAJORITY of current PS4 owners were multi-console owners last gen (PS3 & 360) or switched from the 360.

Yup, former 360 owner. Been an xbox guy since halo 1, but switched with the Xbox One - PS4 divergence.

What the heck are you talking about? You have loads of people here who are admittedly getting it on PS4 or PS4 only owners who are saying it sucks. Don't pick out the few (and I mean few) people actually cheering this as a good move for gamers and extrapolate it out as if there is some general conspiracy against MS.

I think it's more the fact that it is a whole year and not a few months like battlefield or cod, that's what made me mad in the first place.

You cannot compare the two. CoD and Battlefield are yearly franchises. If those had exclusive dlc for a year that would be essentially the entire life of the product because people who even care about extra maps and whatnot would already be on the next iteration. Destiny is an MMO and will definitely not be getting yearly refreshes. Like other MMOs, Bungie will just release expansions and this exclusive content will most likely just be released for free or whatever along with the first big expansion which would likely be about a year out. Proportional to the life of the respective products, the exclusive timing of the dlc is actually pretty similar.

While there have been many positive impressions coming from the alpha, I often disagree with others' opinions (it's also worth noting that, with the alpha being exclusive to PS4, many of those impressions are coming from people who have never spent any significant amount of time playing Halo)

What a ridiculous assumption. Assuming PS4 owners have never owned an Xbox console in their life. Assuming PS4 owners never owned a PC, which Halo has been released on. Any other unfounded assumptions you'd like to make? Especially considering the impressions you read are from gaffers, the majority of which I bet HAVE played Halo extensively, myself included.

Pardon?

IIRC:

- Titanfall signs with EA Partners, gets a set budget for the game
- Game development begins
- Zampella or West leaves (I don't remember which)
- Development continues 2-3 years
- Respawn burned through their budget with almost nothing to show for it
- EA would cancel the game unless outside funding arrived to lower risk
- MS stepped up in exchange for 1 year timed exclusivity
- Game continues development
- Disastrous Xbox One reveal
- Many gamers saying they'll wait for it to come to PS4
- MS pays EA an undisclosed amount for full exclusivity
- Internet rage en masse
- Internet hyping en masse
- Game comes out
-Falls off the face of the earth because of matchmaking and lack of content
- Titanfall 2 (probably) coming to PS4
- The wait begins

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
May have fallen off the face on the earth on the PC version, but the XBO version is always one of the top few games being played on the platform at any point.
