Freedom Wars - Import |OT| War, what is it good for? A HOVERBOARD!!!!

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
Yeah, 6-7 was pretty stupid in that regard. It also felt like everyone was ignoring my orders during that mission.

I've made a pretty sweet rarity 7 damascus blade - the strongest (?) short sword available so far, but I need some low lv materials to upgrade it, sigh. I hope it cuts better than the saw blade.

so have you been able to create those one use flare blades yet ( ´∀`)

Man, the extra missions in code 7 are starting to give me problems. And there are rmajor pathfinding issues in 6-7. Apparently no one can hop over those barricades. Your accessory has to make one big round back to you if it ends up on the other side. Even the Togabito characters forget they have Ibara. It's especially fun to see everyone die and spend a minute trying to make their way back to the area the paradoxer is stuck in. Orz

Up to 6-7 now, holy crap its so annoying.

Didn't have any time to play this over the weekend and am still stuck between 2-1 / 2-2.

While I like the story so far, the "find the NPC / item" routine is not really what I want to be doing right now lol.

Unfortunately, attempting 2-1 on my own with just my accessory is beyond my skill level right now. I can usually secure 1, but then I just get outnumbered. I've only tried it twice and I might be able to handle it if I camp outside the NPC return point and leave hostage returns to my partner. If she gets knocked offline, it'd be game over though. :(

I've got plants up and all, but no real materials to invest so creation is limited. Just trying to get through the story portion now.
I got Yurian to hack my accessory and am heading over to Zalgarden(?) to look for a "ghost".)

Fun game though. Now when is Panna's song coming out? :3

End game spoilers.

Well, they're definitely
gearing up for a sequel
. The end felt a little abrupt to me, but it still
interests me enough to get me to buy the sequel when it comes out. I really hope if performs well enough for a sequel to be made. Would be a shame to leave the story hanging like that
.

Plants go up to level 8.

As for the end game reward,
Simon gives you 4 options
. Don't worry about
which one to take, it is possible to get them all eventually
. I took
the last option, to co-operate with Simon, and got 8 weapons
.

From what I can tell, and from what others are saying, the reward gives you:
1. An assortment of materials
2. An assortment of civilians
3. Revival of Haru/Ann, whoever died in your play-through
4. An assortment of weapons

The assortment of weapons are based on the type of weapon you have equipped at the moment. You will get one of each of the 4 element branches at rarity 6 for a total of 8 weapons. All of them have the 威力アップ(大) modula, while the other 7 are blank.

From 2ch:
個人携行:カッツェ
多目的:AAW-M2
分隊:EZ-ヴォルフ I aust.F
小剣:ムラサメ Mk.9
大剣:TB-32/H
槍:L-6E1

So if you have a small sword equipped, you will get 4 types of Murasame. I am not sure if you can go for the weapons repeatedly.

Got my first special mission request, went in totally unprepared and got wrecked. Saw one spider and thought it was going to be a struggle a few minutes into the fight and another one shows up. Missile spam, dual spin attacks, anti ballistic shields and webbing everywhere = pain.

The moment my acc got abducted I closed the game down lol. I had no idea it could get snatched while alive. Next time I do the mission I'll bring the immune to webbing booster and some ibara buffs. Also sniper vs spider with anti bullet shield is useless, need rockets for sure.

So, how's the game in terms of content and length?
It took me around 35 hours to finish the story, though I did spend some time farming for materials. Not much though, just a few here and there. There are over 52 missions, not counting any special missions. Some missions take a long time, and can take as long as 40 mins if you're doing badly. I've.. had some good and some bad.

Is there post game content? How did you find the story?

Post game content is basically just all your volunteer missions, and any special mission that pops up. Keep farming for parts and upgrading weapons, contributing to your PT in the regional fight. Tokyo is always so far behind in terms of average... Should be a lot more fun (though it already is very fun) once the infrastructure patch hits, which shouldn't be too far away. I have the feeling that they will release it in the West once the patch is done. They're supposedly targeting Summer for the patch so it would make sense that that's what they're waiting for before they give a definite date.

Story is interesting enough. I personally enjoyed it. Story seems to treat the player as gender neutral as possible, which makes playing as a female just as enjoyable. There's no awkward situation that was obviously meant for a male. Well, one or two slight touchy feely instances here and there but it's not weird for a female character. (confession:
I'm a yuri fangirl
)

Quick question for those playing with a male character. How is your character's animation? I'm playing as a female character, and I find the animation in certain situations cutesy, well in line with a female character. So I'm wondering if they actually bothered providing two sets of animation.

This. Any new post-game missions?
I've not finished all the extra missions so I can't confirm exactly, but it seems like there will be some post game missions.

US trailer.

No dubs for the localized version?

I will take this as a good sign that the game is coming soon. The fact there is no dub should speed things up a bit. Like stated above in the thread, they are probably waiting for the online patch to launch it in the west.

I'm excited for this. I'm not the biggest hunting games fan but I loved Soul Sacrifice so I think I will like this.

Both Soul Sacrifice and Soul Sacrifice Delta came out 2 months after their Japanese debuts, so I'm expecting a similar time frame for Freedom Wars.

This is not a "hunting game", it's a 3rd person action game. Really.

Wow, I'm so stupid. All this time I didn't realize that once the production in your plant starts, you can ask civilians that you've saved for help to reduce the production time...

Patiently waiting for the localized release. My Japanese isn't good enough to keep up with an action game.

I've been hearing really good things about FW. It's looking like Sony's Monster Hunter competitor. Hopefully they continue the series. May be a good portable franchise for them.

How does the game flow work? Like mission to mission and so on.

Usually you have to talk to a few npcs/go through a mini stealth mission to get to a terminal etc. About halfway through a code (chapter) you get access to a few optional missions, which are one star harder than the ones required for the story.
Once you clear all the story missions and do everything required for advancing to the next code (get your sentence below a certain number and unlock certain rights) you take part in an exam mission to get you to the higher code.

Got to code 7. Surprisingly the mission for it is pretty easy, considering every other rank up mission has been relatively hard. I seriously need to start farming mats to upgrade my weapons, they're so far behind lol.

That was such a fun mission, compared to the other rank up ones.

A lot of the stuff in FW isn't actually voice acted but instead uses the synthesizer so I can see why they opted not to dub this.

Ok impressions-GAF. Shizuka corrected me in another thread that this isn't a hunting game. It looks like one in videos and screenshots so I'm asking what the game is most like if it's not a hunting game.

I'm over hunting games but I really dig the art direction for this game. What is the gameplay type then?

goddamn spider with shield generator is a pain in the ass since trying to latch on to it is made difficult by all the legs and parts in the way on top of how much it has movement patterns that knock you off crazy fight tho!

actually it still is a hunting game just there is more variety than just kill target x.

the ot contains the other mission types.

but its still about gaining resources from fighting where a lot of the required ones comes from the large enemy types.

you get other resources from completing the required objective with the end of stage rankings but its not really the best way to get whatever you need. new weapons are drops from enemies too.

This is really half-assed by Sony. One of the most anticipated exclusive vita games is subs only?

Agreed. Though I have no issue with Japanese dubs, it speaks a lot on their approach to localizing Vita games in the future. I'll still buy it even with just English subs though.

Since the Japanese version uses vocal synthesizers for the voice acting of the Accessories and Proper-kun, and they actually use your created name in dialog, they're pretty much bound to whatever synthesizer programs already exist, and licensing those out.

If you want to play around with some, this is the company Atlus Japan licensed synths from for the Japanese version of Catherine. Show was the narrator, Julie did the boss announcements, and Kate said "Edge" (which is still in the English version). 2/3 of these voices were replaced with actual actors in the English version. Not possible with Freedom Wars.

English synths just aren't as malleable as the Japanese ones in this case. A lot of them don't have pronunciation consistency, and with a fairly large script of original terms, that's definitely an issue. It's not so much lazy, just unfeasible.

I usually go for Japanese VA in everything since it sounds better imo. but in games like Soul Sacrifice I went the English since I couldn't handle
Librom's (the talking book)
voice in Japanese, English was way better.

It would've been better to give the players the choice but I think I understand why they went sub-only since the game is expected to sell poorly here in the states. I'm excited to get it and hopefully it doesn't come out in October this year.

it's as much a hunting game as Ex-Troopers was, which is to say it's got elements of one, but that's not all there is. General game progression is pretty much completely different from any of the other hunting games as you'll be running around chatting with NPCs, doing some stealth missions, fighting humans and other small enemies.

You get drops from fighting the bigger bots and the like, but the gameplay is much closer to a 3rd person shooter with melee combat.

thats the story mode, the core idea of the game is still a hunting title but as mentioned
it just has more mission variety.

I reckon they would either remove the voice sythesizers completely or not release freedom wars in the West at all. The amount of work to integrate a different synthesizer that may not be as capable would probably not be proportionate to the sales numbers expected from a Vita game in the West. That is, assuming that aside from the cost of a dub, that this is the main problem. It is possible that they remove both the synthesizer customisation section and cut cost with a sub. Though that would really suck.

I really hope they do not remove it though, particularly the customisation of your accessory. I've actually customised mine to ask me if I want to die, Jigoku Shoujo style, every time I command her to go pick up field resources rather than fight beside me. I still laugh every time I hear that. How is everyone customising their accessory?

I disagree.

The core idea of the game is ultimately PvP/turf wars, even if the single player is the only thing complete right now. I agree that it's a coop action game, but I don't think it's a hunting game like Toukiden, MH, God Eater, or any of the others. It has elements of it sure, but that's it IMO.

Bought this last week but haven't been able to play much due to work.

Anyone know if there's any kind of weapon practice option/arena available? I can't really get a feel for any of the melee weapon combos.

I'm an anime fan and watch a lot of subbed stuff so I personally have no issue with it but it limits any broad appeal this game has. That makes me sad as a vita fan

Base infiltration with a full team feels extremely good. Just stick to the ceiling with your thorn and snipe everything!

Finally got to 2-5 and 2-6...now THIS is what I'm talking about!

Only three mission types so far -

1) Resource Retrieval
2) Extermination
3) Civilian Rescue

Two and three are great! It's fun to finally get out there and play around with the different weapons. My only complaint is that some of the bigger weapons don't feel like they have enough weight. Explosions / impact doesn't feel heavy when I hit with a rocket launcher; grenades don't feel forceful, etc. Maybe a bit of force-feedback on explosion would have helped...

Still enjoying the my time with the game. I'll probably spend a few more runs just getting mats before moving on to Code 3...
