I think I just defeated the last boss in the story mode, but the fight finished together with my break at work, so I'll know for sure when I get home... Orz

Did you fight any other Abductors equivalent in size to the Dragon one?
I haven't fought the dragon yet - ignored all optional code 7 missions and went straight for the story ones.
But yeah, there's one more giant thing waiting for you. :)

Well...
you're not going to see it in code 7 missions
I assume the dragons will provide the parts for the fire branch? Unless I totally missed an abductor somewhere.

So is Freedom Wars good?

Cause I'm thinking of getting it when it comes to the US.

Yes its good and quite a well done game overall. Would imagine that by the time it hits the West you guys would have internet play included from the get go unlike us here in Japan where we are still waiting for the upgrade patch.

Story cleared! Took me around 30 hours.
Now to clear those code 7 optional missions. From what I've read on some random wiki, it seems that the only thing besides that left to do is clearing available missions until you get under certain sentence (900k/850k etc.) which unlocks code 8 missions. No idea if that's true, but I have only 4k left until 900k, so I guess I will find out soon.

Edit:
7 new eye shapes, 10 female and 10 male hairstyles all coming this Thursday as a free DLC!

Yeah, Nick Accordino confirmed it will be there on day one.

I was at 896k when Alyes(?) came. Not sure if it's the sentence left or the number of volunteers completed post game. I was under 900k for quite some time so I think it's a mix of both. Before long, she will come to you so just keep doing missions.

I have one code 7 optional left so apparently you don't have to complete that. 7-6 is giving me hell.

I meant the abductor that provides the special materials required to level a weapon into the fire branch. It's called a ディオーネ, according to the material description. The last boss gives you the will'o branch, but I don't think I've encountered a dione yet. Edit: Okay. The dragons are indeed the ディオーネ.

Yeah, 7-6 is the biggest bitch so far. I've just finished the story and cleared 7-7 and 7-8, but 7-6 is ...horrible.

Story was good however, though I feel it just ended so suddenly. Here's hoping for post story content via patches like GE2 !
I've had my accessory abducted so many times there. I got real close to winning once, took down one koushin and had the last one down by 70% only to be back stabbed by 4 full auto gun toting togabito that just spawned.

I did not know that you could press square when selecting clothes to see the different versions of it. -__-

Found out if you finish 5-7 and get the special reward, its 15 HC Flare Knives.

Holy crap, and he's only gone on 434 missions...he must have farmed hardcore.

Hmm, finished 8-1 and now waiting for 8-2 to pop up. Doesn't seem like it'll come anytime soon. Found out you can use the HC Flare Knife without consuming it which is pretty nice. Also thruster boards can be found on 7-3 from the supply boxes, but it's a low chance of getting them.

Equip the normal flare knife on slot 1, and the hc on slot 2. When you hook onto a part, start cutting with the normal flare knife on slot 1, then while you're smashing O change it to slot 2 and you're using the HC knife without consuming it :D

Yeah, it's updating with lots of stuff super fast !

Hmm, 8-2 still hasn't appeared for me after going on tonnes of missions D:

i need to restock my supplies as have been converting stuff into ammo and medical supplies then converting them into points for my region as it gives more points than just getting rid of unprocessed parts. Trying to do as much of this as possible since have a feeling they may rebalance it or patch something to prevent folks from going overboard with it. Since you can if you do certain stages and just let your AI partners constantly kill all the smaller mechanical enemies.

i added you to the OT useful info section with you quoting that wiki page.

Isn't it faster to just go to Cell Garden over and over again to pick the trash and convert it into stuff? You only need 8, get 27 or so items with a plant on lv 8 and a complete run of all Cell Garden rooms nets you 25+ trash.

Not really since that requires to do things. You can get 100+ items from just the AI killing the infinite spawning robot enemies.

Sounds good. Which mission is that?

I've noticed that the best mission for easy year farming is probably 7-3. It gives you 625 years just for completing it if you're using the "Additional years off your sentence" booster.

One of the earlier ones forgot which. Guy at work told me about it. Ive been just collecting large abductor parts over and over again. Since am trying to farm silver rank weapons due to the large amount of extra skill slots they have.

If you spend around 25 minutes in 7-3 near the end of the map with your allies command on hunt togabito you can farm their weapons which have a chance of rarity 7 and donate them after the mission for ~3000 years + the 500 for finishing the mission. It's a bit tedious though.

You can craft rarity 7 weapons with 10 slots from a level 8 plant, though the chance is low I think. I managed to get a murasame rarity 7 after crafting it about 5 times so I guess I got lucky !

I'm really digging the art direction in this game.

I have yet to find a Monster Hunter clone I liked, but I'm still stoked about this game for some reason.

Gonna try the Japanese demo this weekend I guess.

According to 4Gamer, this took first place this week at 188,888 copies sold. Pretty damn impressive for a Vita game.

Would still need to do resource runs anyways to constantly trying to build weapons. Am just getting them from enemy drops. Going after ranged weapons so dont have to worry about just bringing back a single melee weapon every time from the humanoid enemies.

I wonder if they'll be patching the game to make it easier, since apparently Japanese players think it's too tough.
Judging by the responses on the official blog and twitter, that is the most likely scenario.

Is there any truth to it being too hard? I really don't want a watered down version of the game when it comes to NA.

Not really. As long as you utilize your commands right you don't have a problem. Though there are the instances that need to be patched such as allies being unable to go over a gigantic barrier and having to walk around -_-

Hi guys. I see that Uwe uses his fists to take on abductors. Can your character also use his hands, or are you limited to weapons only?

Also, about those hoverboards - are they available in the game? Haven't seen anyone use them in footage from the full game.

Siliconera have multiple articles concerning Freedom wars "Balancing issue", and they posted this video which is uploaded by a Japanese gamer,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yhp0NWq7I7c

Though I only played the demo, which my avatar also died a lot, during the beginning of cos =), and even after watching this video, I still prefer them to leave the game as it is. I personally surprise by the # of Jap gamers who complained about the difficulty. I get that they mostly have trouble with the human enemies, but if they can get past the deep learning curve and difficulty of monhun, where enemies can one-shot or easily kill you with a few hit, why not this one too?

Why are they using melee weapons against a bunch of gun users? Why didn't they bring any AI allies? Of course the enemies are going to swarm you if you're the only living thing on the field. And it's not like the enemies have any skills or abilities the player doesn't. It seems like people are having a hard time trying to playing this like Monster Hunter, rather than as a third-person action game, like they should.

Also, three articles from Siliconera that go at length to put down a single game because it has a bad Amazon rating? Seems fishy. That "Keep in mind, this is coming from a nation full of G-rank Hunters and seasoned veterans of the hunting genre, so they’re not exactly too shabby as players" line is laughable too.

Many of them are indeed not used to FPS/TPS I guess.

I know, sometime its feel like Siliconera really have a grudge against PS Vita games -_-, great opening for FW though and hope that it have leg despite the complain, and tbh I'm not a big/pro FPS/TPS player either, but I still know that in those situation you use gun not melee weapon. Really hope that the patch won't make the game too easy.

The fist weapons do not exist for players at this time.

The hoverboards was a reward for the regional ranking thing with the demo. We still have yet to get any sort of rewards from the rankings I think.

Am sure most of the complaints from the JP gamers will go away once online mode is actually implemented. One thing for sure is they need to work harder on the AI. I think the problem is they split the AI up into too many categories with the various commands which makes the AI seem like an idiot at times. Most players wont be able to constantly micromanage their AI in the middle of a firefight. What I found works the best for me is having my ACC constantly set to a healing pattern so she goes running around healing everyone in close proximity while the other 3 NPC AIs focus on actually fighting. Also apparently Kai is the best AI to use if you want one for anti-personnel combat. I hope eventually we can select Natalia also as she has a sniper rifle.

Its not that its too hard, its just that apparently the average player in Japan isnt used to third person shooters, which the game does turn into when you have a swarm of enemies. On top of the missions where its capture the points can become irritating depending on the level design. The AI is only smart enough to go zerging around to points one at a time. But you can command them to stay at a single point and defend it. But then if its a map with 5 CPs for example doesnt really help things, when the enemy AI splits up going to various points at once.

The game is something new to people here which is why a lot of folks just cant wrap their heads around it at the moment. Or get used to the controls.

Is all this griping about difficulty accurate? I just really hate when devs try to make a game easier to appease people who just aren't that good. This happened to Catherine, too.

And Siliconera? Posting sensationalist articles for hits?! Inconceivable!

Anybody know what the monster count is?

Hard to say specifically as I haven't beaten it yet, but there's a lot of variations because each Abductor can equip a handful of different weapon sets, changing the way you deal with them in significant ways.

Laser dude vs Missile dude is one example.

Well, sometimes the game might feel unfair, mostly when you're thrown against multiple npcs, since they're basically as strong as you. If you don't have much fps/tps experience, you'll probably keep dying and even if you're good at those kind of games, sometimes when 4 enemies like that attack you at once and you're not fast enough to run away, you can get frustrated.
Another thing is that hunting games are all about patterns - when monster does x, it will do attack y. Here it's true in case of Abductors, since it's easy to guess which weapon/move they are going to use once you play for a bit, but when the npcs are thrown into a mix, you must basically have eyes around your head, to not be killed by some random enemy when you're trying to do damage to the big one. Like the previous posters said, the key there is to command your allies to take care of some of that stuff.
Why are they using melee weapons against a bunch of gun users? Why didn't they bring any AI allies?
You can't use allies in most of those infiltration missions, not even an accessory - that's why you have so many lives (the number besides the blue thing in the corner) is so high.
As for the melee weapons, since those missions happen in small rooms and there are sometimes many enemies thrown at you at once which are all at different distances, sword + thorn can seem like a viable option. But yeah, guns are much better for those in general.
One thing for sure is they need to work harder on the AI. I think the problem is they split the AI up into too many categories with the various commands which makes the AI seem like an idiot at times. Most players wont be able to constantly micromanage their AI in the middle of a firefight.
This is another big thing. Giving one of the "fight" orders makes NPCs ignore you when you die and also makes them completely ignore their dead accessories, which is annoying. I know they're supposed to fight, but they can still use their brains, right?
It doesn't help that the npc commands are in the second menu, so each time you give them an order, you must first switch from the accessory order menu.

In general, yes, the 8-10 star missions can get really hard, but it's nowhere as hard as the Japanese players are saying.
One more thing that I was thinking about regarding the difficulty, many players here complain about "trash enemies" being too strong. Which means that they treat non-abductor npcs like small monsters in MH, which should die very easily and pose little to no threat. The truth is those enemies are like bots in an FPS game - they are as strong as you and have as much health (without any boosters).

Parakeetman

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
they are not thinking of enemies in the sense of AI patterns which is take advantage of the fact we can engage them before we enter their preset engagement range for their weapons. one thing though is that the AI does have a high accuracy rating which why doing what i just said is important if its possible.

once they start spawning all around you and player is in the AIs area of engagement then problems happen. it really is surprising that there is no actual real shotgun type of personal firearm the closest thing is that barberas special or whatever 5 shot full auto PF but i wouldnt call it exactly a shotgun.

thank god there is no flamethrower one. their stomp does a better job anyways at AOE death dealing lol. the one with mortar tubes on its shoulders wasnt too bad since those were surprisingly fragile considering how late in the game they appear. but so far in its own category the white spider with the shield generator is the worst as all other parts get in the way of hitting it with your ibara plus its attack patterns involve spinning a lot which throws you off. the missile launch will hit you too on the way back down.

Hasemo

This so much. Flamethrower is literally the worst weapon an enemy can have, since it stunlocks you until you're dead or until they have to reload.

By the way, where is the shield spider? I don't recall a mission with it.

it was a special mission one of those one time only deals that show up at random. there was a tiger with a shield too and humanoid enemies called 天兵 those fuckers had an insane amount of hp could have won but my accessory got captured by the tiger and the 5 mins ran out so couldnt get healed then ran out of respawn energy

the map was that industrial area the gas plant looking one and while there are some open areas you know how cramped it is

Oh, the 天罰 mission that gives you 10k years? I thought it shows at one point for everyone and you only have one shot at it.
Never tried it myself - it's waiting for all my npcs to have lv 8 equipment unlocked.

Has anything been said about plans for mission dlc/additional content in the future? I wonder if they'll come out with a "G" iteration or just support it with dlc like ge2. Game seems to have sold well enough and definitely has enough free space on the cart for an incremental upgrade version.
