daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn @ your review breakdown on the last page

Finally beat one of the 天罰 missions and got my sentence down to 859k. Maaaan was it hard, the abductors have shields, and the other enemies have permanent defence up -___- managed to finish it with 50 seconds left on the clock.

Got 8-2 as well from finishing this mission, so I'm starting to wonder whether its a random chance to get it or not since I've been reading that people have been getting the missions at like 910k years left.

ive noticed those 天兵 constantly def buff themselves. dear god they are tough and come out rocking the full auto energy rifle and explosive semi auto one making them quite dangerous.

have gotten the 天罰 mission twice now but did not do a run on the second one yet. seems like we can stock up to 12 before we have to empty them.

might give it a run later.

Ahh they buff themselves. I always thought that they just always spawned with it. They're so horrible, though the fastest way i've managed to kill them so far was using that バーバラ weapon and killing them in 2 clips. Other than that it takes so long to kill them with any other weapon.

Hoping I get another 天罰 mission soon, they're quite fun actually !

Yeah I used that also, the only downside is need to get in close to them. If you are lucky and can take them on 1 v 1 use a spear with high attack power, lock on and triangle over and over. Since usually they cant react fast enough to shoot you. Its how I usually deal with humanoid type of enemies. Since the larger enemies have those shield generators you can just keep trying to lock and triangle it. Though personally I dont use the lock on the larger targets as too many parts to target and things can go wrong. If you are crazy enough going 2 melee weapons would be the way to go to saw away once the shield is down. Need to get it off first so your allies can actually deal damage to it.

One thing I wonder is that semi-auto explosive beam rifle does not seem to create the shield effect when you shoot a generator equipped enemy which makes me wonder if the damage actually goes through? Since the rocket launchers for example make the shield effect when it comes in contact with the shield radius. Wonder if its just a bug or actually dealing damage. I actually have my ACC equipped with one that I brought the damage rating up to around 900. Am out of parts to raise it higher at the moment, but seems to do the job. Plus since the AI is fairly accurate she a good job with it. Better than the sniper rifle, plus the explosive effect can damage multiple parts at once if they are close enough. Same with enemy AI.

The 天罰 missions are great as they provide a good challenge. Only bad thing is if your accessory gets captured then you are just SOL. like what happened to me the first time I tried a mission. Was winning too.

The damned tiger got her and breaking the cage on that thing is a huge pain in the ass.

Yeah I happened to fail my first 天罰 mission and my accessory got captured -___-. I'm fine with my accessory getting captured, it's just close to impossible to break the cage on the tiger since it's on the underside. Being able to use the HC Flare Blade does help though, with the trick that allows you to use it without consuming it.

About the shield generators though..maybe it only blocks physical bullets and not beams? I'm not too sure about this though, just a thought.

The pulser the FA beam rifle though the shots get blocked, which had me a bit confused. Did not try that useless continuous beam weapon yet though. As that thing is pretty worthless overall for its time to fire, how fast it runs out of ammo and reload speed. D: Since I thought the same thing which is why I had switched over to the blaster after and tried it on a different enemy.

Wait that last part.
Did that guy just put SSD rating instead of vanilla SS where are any other games doesn't even have "G version" yet?
Fuck those people who believe that "review".

I don't see what the rating has to do with anything. Soul Sacrifice vanilla has a 4.0 on Amazon. It just makes Toukiden the highest at 4.3. There's a still a large gap in score between the other titles and Freedom Wars.

And I think his complaints are very valid. I've spent about 24 hours on Freedom Wars and more or less agree with him. It's a flawed game and in a world where Toukiden and Soul Sacrifice exist I don't see why anyone would want to waste time with Freedom Wars. If they make a sequel and improve it that's great but that doesn't mean I'm going to spend time playing the first one when there are better first-generation hunting games on the same system.

I don't think you can stock the 天罰 missions too much. I had one disappear on me, only to be replaced by a civilian rescue vs. 天兵 (first to 3 wins). There seems to be a time limit on these.

Thats a bit odd considering the stock is up to 15 or was it 16.

In anycase just finished the save 3 civ rescue mission was pretty easy. Took along my highest lv AI and set them to rescue civilians, while my ACC focused on healing and all I did was made sure the enemies got a hold of no one. Bringing an AED and ton of grenades and or mines to put infront of their goal helps. They didnt get a single rescue accomplished. Easiest 10k I ever made. Flash grenades make them drop the civilians too.

Though the map is a bit insane since its so small. That and there is a spider bot in it so trying to generally stay off of the ground floor is a good idea. Its better to leave the captures up to the AI and you just focus on defense once again.

If you can try to stick the defense buff on as many friendly AI as you can.

The map is slightly lop sided since the enemy their recovery point is on the bottom floor, while yours is up top. Thankfully the stairs provide pretty good cover for any ally running up them though from standard fire.

Beat the final boss yesterday and there were some really frustrating chain stun locks. The fight overall was fun and its a shame that area wasn't used much in the game.

The game sure did end abruptly, what was up with that other dimension?

Definitely looks like a sequel is coming, too much left unexplained. Gonna put the game on hold until all the issues are patched (+ Infrastructure added). No way i'm gonna grind 900k years.

The more I read about this game the more I feel like I will wait for an expansion "sequel", like GE, Toukiden or SS. It just seems like it needs a lot of tweaks and upgrades and the base game doesn't seem fledged out enough. Which is a shame cause the gameplay sounds fantastic. In any case, I will wait, I don't want to double dip on a digital only release.

Yeah. That's the one. The spectacular aim and fire attacks will be patched.

I think it's because I left the quest on the request menu, and did not accept it. I think if you do accept it, you can keep it on your special volunteer list. Sorry. Forgot that you'd actually have to get permission for it first.

That volunteer was easy enough. I didn't even bother preventing them from grabbing anyone since my team just grabbed everyone and ran. I just got a new one. Rescue a civilian from a Koushin. Ought to be fun.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for Asia to put the free Hair and Eye DLC up...

I think its the other way around otherwise why would they allow us to keep such a large number of them? Since the one I did not accept till today was on my list for at least 3-4 days now.

Considering I haven't liked any hunting games so far, should I still be excited for Freedom Wars? Or is it more of the same as MH, SS, Toukiden and Ragnarok?

WHERE'S THE PANNA MUSIC VIDEO!?

Weekend's over so now I can get back to playing this;D

Still at the beginning of Code 3.

I feel like the reddit review is half-right - there are a lot of points that could have been done better. I wasn't a fan of the "go here, do this" fetch quests / back tracking they had in Code 2. Right now, I find myself more interested in the "A" of the ARPG. It's too bad because Freedom Wars seems like it has (had) the potential for a really good story.

Having said that, I really like the setting, even if your fellow prisoners don't necessarily act like prisoners. Every time I start to feel like it's out of place though, I try to remind myself of shows like Battlestar Galactica, where the crew still manages to have fun and act positive in the midst of a totall effed up situation. Still, the story isn't going to revolutionize the gaming industry and, to be honest, it doesn't have to. It sets the mood and I "enjoyed" having years added to my sentence at unexpected times.

Action-wise, the game is still a lot of fun though I haven't seen most of what the game has to offer yet. The game does a TERRIBLE job of explaining weapons, particularly their attributes and special attacks. I don't mind so much as I like to try everything myself anyhow, but I think it will frustrate a lot of gamers who want to make informed decisions when upgrading their stuff. I mean, you can find everything you're looking for online, but I miss the days where they actually tell you about this kind of stuff in the instruction manual. The stealth missions aren't the best, but I didn't mind them too much. The Prisoner / Accessory relationship is fun and creepy at the same time. Having your Accessory die (or worse, get abducted) in battle has very real consequences. They will also SAVE YOUR ASS a billion times. I mean, hey, they can't let you die until you've worked off your time, right?

I like how they've integrated plants into the game. It's neat, but it feels a bit half-baked. Why institute a building time? I *feels* cool - like the crew are actually working to build my stuff, but it doesn't really add anything to the game. I kind of like it, but I can be a masochistic player at times. Having to wait to upgrade your weapons will probably piss a lot of people off. This is another feature that I feel like they could have explained better. Since you don't know hardly anything about upgrading weapons (including materials needed) without a ton of checking, it's hard to know what you should sac and what you should save. When missions end, I look at the list of regulated materials and think, "I'll probably need that stuff for something, but since I don't know what I'll just donate it." I think they could have improved the UI here. When highlighting an item, you should be able to hit a button and see what known upgrades it can be used in. It's too much of a hassle to go back and forth between menus figuring out what I need. Maybe if Japanese was my mother tongue, it'd be easier for me to remember all of the items names, so that could be on me. I feel like they could improve this part of the game though.

Difficulty levels in games never really bothered me. I feel like this generation of gamers is like the Veruca Salt gif Parakeetman put up. They want everything and they want it now. It's probably impossible to get a difficult level that everyone can appreciate. Make it too easy and people will sail through the game and complain that they finished it. Make it too hard, and they complain about that. All you can do is know your target and try to aim for it. The developer response to player complaints was very thorough. Man, Demon's Souls got so lucky with player response. They made a hard-ass game and people loved them for it. When other games come along and try to do the same thing, they get served a big, juicy poop sandwich.

I think Monster Hunter, especially the earlier versions, was a lot harder. Even Soul Sacrifice was harder. Granted, I'm still in Code 3 so I could be very wrong.

Overall, I think it's a very good addition to the Vita. Playing it on the go is great and I think it stands up for itself in the Hunting-like genre. It's very good for a new IP. Hell, even Soul Sacrifice didn't get it completely right from the get go. I look forward to seeing them polish the game and I hope they can keep it engaging in future updates / installments. I'd buy a Freedom Wars 2...

STILL it's going to be hard to stick with this game with OreShika 2 comes out in about 2 weeks. @.@ I plan on beating it though;D

Also without the time limit on the factories and such, it would show how limited the current arsenal is. Its why they kinda spread things out via the ranks you have to gain in the story. From there its more about just getting pure damage output from said weapons.

Though the unfortunate thing is for the most part unless you knock an abductor down the charge moves are mostly useless. The only useful one is the spears Square move which you throw it like a javelin, thats mainly to be used to deal damage to the cage as it seems to pierce the target. I still think it was a stupid design decision not to let us charge up our weapon moves while running around. Or at least shorten the charge time since its way too long. Usually by the time you get your lv 2 charge out the enemy is about ready to stand back up.

Around code 7 is when you will start to regret not having highly upgraded weapons for damage output. :)

One thing Im wondering if they really will make some sort of free DLC upgrade pack in the future that includes more weapons. As mentioned the fist weapons that Uwe and Elfriede use exist then there is the pistols that the accessories and Beatrice use but are not available to the player at this time.

In regards to what resources to keep for anything collected basically keep everything no idea how high the numbers go up but its far past 200. If there is something you should be selling to earn points / shave off years from your sentence is the manufactured ammo / medical supplies and one reason to keep the factories going when you can. Since later on you will be making better versions of all the starting stuff so eventually you can phase out your stock of standard support items. But its what I do constantly and has kept me well supplied with both points to spend and taking good chunk of years off of my sentence.

For the weapon upgrades and the timer as mentioned to hasemo earlier in the thread I just always have another weapon set around that I can switch to. Thankfully early on in the game you can make do with playing like that. Later on you will really need to keep another strong set to fall back on, but by then with all the time sunk into playing you should have multiple upgraded items. So that will make it less of a worry with the timer. Also all the civilians you save you can use those to shave off time also. I actually havent started using them till recently so just goes to show how little of a deal the timer system is generally. Whats nice too is it seems to count down even when you are not playing, so if for example you are here on gaf posting while you have timers running, you go back to the game and its all done. As mentioned before going on a mission takes care of that too as only the real high lv stuff along with the high lv boosters take an insane amount of time. But some missions now are taking me 30-40 minutes. lol

Do agree with you on the items required for upgrades. I think the main problem is due to the game not having many "unique" large type enemies there is no association of said parts to said enemy type. Such as with other games of the genre. Makes it a bit of a hassle when you need to go backwards in the list to find some lower level resource that you need to continue on your upgrade path.

And once again with the great job they did in God Eater 2 upgrading their melee system am very disappointed with this games melee system in general. They really should have used their know-how from the GE series games and put it to practice here. Same with making more different abductor types that are not just variations of the skeleton one. For the most part all you use melee weapons for is just trying to pull off your charge move when your target is stunned or sawing off parts with the smaller blades.

8-3~
Came after I completed a 天罰 special mission. After the 10k + 2.5k bonus, I'm left with 807k. I really wish 天罰 become regular though. I need alpha parts.

8-3 was simple. Like really simple since the abductors come one at a time if you don't rescue the civilians without taking them down. And I do recommend taking them down since the last one is a
Koushin and it's harder to break its cage since it's so hidden
.

Finished it in one try, in around 8 mins.
If you're having trouble, up your damage output.

I really find melee weapons way less effective as compared to ranged weapons. I'm favouring the 5-6 rapid shot gun. I can down a 7-8 paradoxer in under 2 mins using that, whilst almost perma stunlocking it since it deals so much damage. My melee weapon, however... Perhaps it's because I'm still using the small sword, but it deals pathetic damage compared to the gun and opens me up to melee attacks from the abductor. Being able to shoot and move makes everything easier to evade. Like you, I currently only bring the smaller sword out to cut any shield generators that I may encounter. I don't even saw the other parts off using the blade anymore. My gun is faster.

Edit:
Speak of the devil. Here comes the regular 天罰 missions.

After branching through ice, level 7 at 1836 damage.

I also have the 威力アップ(特大) module.

I'm considering making one of will'o, but I haven't actually seen the will'o branch in effect. It blows up and deals additional damage? I.. don't see the effect.

Sigh. Spoke too soon.
天罰 mission, but not alpha level.

Holy shit, what did you branch into?
Sorry, updated my post. Ice branch. Figured it would be nice to lower their defense. Seeing them flinch pretty often at 110% 怯み damage makes me consider the default 怯み branch too.

Im currently working towards trying to find 威力アップ(特大)modules though they seem to be one of the more rare ones. D: so constantly doing runs on that 7 something stage where its just you vs all those blank folks. Once I get that done will try to produce a gold version of the バーバラ rifle. Ive made some other weird weapons like a high ROF output minigun. Its the same one that Ann uses. Though am SOL with parts to further upgrade it. I think I made a huge mistake not having gone the ice route, since lightning seems to be pretty worthless :D

I've had the luck of my 威力アップ(大)progressing into 威力アップ(特大). Otherwise, you can try using materials to buff the mid item that can give that module, then ensure at least 3 blue modules carry over in the final modification. The item for carrying 5 blue modules over seems to be super rare, and I think appears only in special missions.

I really need to get more of those 3 carry over material thing. D: I think I only have a few. Did not use any yet though.

Been real stubborn about trying to get it right on the first or second try lol.

Argh fuck I messed up another 天罰 mission due to a 3rd spider showing up and most of the fight took place in a tiny ass hallway. I swear that spin move it constantly does has got to be the most irritating move set ever. On top of the web that there is no faster way to break out of and having to waste precious booster slots for anti-web is just stupid. The devs should at least have made a way to rapidly press the button to increase escape speed or allow friends to cut you free. Only way to break out of it faster is take damage from a hostile source.

Once again was winning too just had to break the cage and get out a single civilian. D:

Since killed one spider the other was down to 25% but after lost a bunch of lives when getting killed as my ACC was down that screwed up everything. Both spiders doing the missile attack at the same time too was just insanely fail. lol

They pulled it out when the game launched. It was more like a beta.

Wait, isn't it stil on the PSN, just under the general "Freedom Wars" game icon ? (just look up the game itself on the psn, then the demo is under it if i recall)

I had one with an alpha パラドクサ and a normal one. Thankfully, they were situated far away from each other so I could easily take one down at a time. Did the 3rd show up because you busted the civilian out? Save your game before the mission and close/load if you think you're about to fail? Cheap method but it works. :x

I just fought the ディオーネ for the first time. I was at 787k when 8-5 came. 8-4 came right after completing 8-3, after getting the last reward. I didn't find it difficult at all (took me 6m36s). Not sure if it was a glitch or the howling cancel booster I had equipped, but I was immune to its wing attack that seemed to stun the others. Someone in the team seemed to be stunning it with a lightning weapon too. I don't think it was me. It lasted pretty long! I think I took it down before it had the chance to use any of its special attacks, so it was oddly easy.

And then the silver trophy for clearing all volunteers popped. Guess that's it? The regular missions go up to 8-5? Just gotta wait for the special volunteers giving a higher level of each abductor and parts for higher level weapons.

SCEJA. My free DLC. Where. When. I'd like some new eyes and hair please.

all of the damned spiders had shields... the third one showed up after i had killed the one without a civilian in it. it started out on the opposite side of the map but for whatever reason the fucker wandered over to where we were fighting the one with the civilian in it.

Lower difficulty in story-related missions.

Improve controls (lulz you can't use Ibara while dashing in Ibara Controls or Dash Controls).

Ibara Type 2 and God Eater 2Dash Type 2 controls

Changing Ibara Boost, Ibara Master and Ibara Boost+ cost.

Or rather, it's euphemism for NERF! because AFAIK, those Booster had 1 Cost.

the stupid thing is that its not the respawn timer which is the problem its where they will respawn that is. Since there apparently is no sort of system to prevent the smaller enemies from spawning right on top of you.

In Japan, Freedom Wars has a mode called City-State War, which features 47 Panopticon prefectures, based on Japan’s 47 prefectures, with each one competing with one another for resources and development.

According to the Nick Accordino, Associate Project Manager for Freedom Wars’ North American release, in the English-language version of the game, the City-State War mode will not use Japanese prefectures.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, Accordino stated in the comments section: “We won’t be using the same prefecture system – we’ll be using an alternate list of 50 cities from throughout the globe to represent all of the Western Panopticons out there. (And of course, you’re free to choose which one you’d like to represent.)”

Freedom Wars doesn’t have a release date in North America and Europe yet, although Sony have said they plan on releasing the game this year. North America will see a retail release while Europe will get the game as a download-only title.
