Mark Cerny suggests Knack 2 could happen

Can I suggest you don't?

By all means make another family friendly, AAA, platforming centric game, since there is an ENORMOUS gap in the market for it on PS4. But try to go for the Banjo Kazooie/Mario 3D design rather than what you did with Knack.

You don't think Knack was a cute little guy

Whatever I thought about the character before I played the game, he went down a few notches in my esteem when he opened his mouth and started talking. I think they'd have to have tried pretty hard to find a voice that's a worse match for the design.

If they can address the big concerns about Knack, I suppose I don't mind, but there are so many other things Sony could spend those resources on before Knack 2. And I didn't hate Knack. But it was launch filler. I don't think a lot of us are craving a second helping at full-price.

OP's avatar is perfect. I really wish they'd try something else. Why make a sequel to something that was mediocre?
To make it better? Knack had loads of potential, and some good ideas on paper. But those weren't furfilled. Launch game curse?

Also. There are good sequels of mediocre games. Assassin's Creed 2 anyone?

I'd like to see another Knack and another Killzone. Why make all of those assets only to toss them aside after putting out rushed launch titles? Its a waste of effort not to show what these games could be with more time.

What potential? Knack was a direct rip-off.
Stealth Knack, wood Knack, Ice knack, etc. They all changed things up but were one-offs. Would like to see that kind of thing opened up more with more options throughout the environment like Infamous: SS.

Bring it on! I and my nephews loved Knack. Just drop the random loot from chests. That made getting Diamond Knack a pain.

I just realised we'll never get Knack on PS+ because Sony said that there would be only 70+ Metacritic titles and Knack is 54.

DMC1 was great, so it's not a good comparison.

First game needs to be bad and second game good, any examples?

Assassins Creed 1 to 2 was a huge jump in quality. Uncharted to uncharted 2 also. There is real value in iteration improvement through sequels. If done right.

Said no publisher ever.
ever.

I think people that say they liked the game were just hyped about a launch game. The game is genuinely bad.

Rather, some of us just enjoyed it warts and all. Like most games.

Knack was my first PS4 plat and was genuinely a solid 7.5/10 for me. It definitely needed more time in the oven and only glanced upon some elements-- like stealth Knack and the way the feeling of scale is handled in the final level-- that they could've exploited more for greater effect, but with some more TLC, platforming elements, and more thought out (less tedious) collectible system, it could be really fun.

The way they allowed you to sort through what people on your friend's list picked up from a chest in order to mitigate some of the grind I thought was really cool and would love to see that in more games that rely on randomized loot.

Anyways, I'd be down to see what they'd do for a sequel.

Someone should tell Mark that some things just don't need a sequel.

The Matrix and Knack are good examples...

For wildly different reasons mind you...

I've played all of those games, and calling Knack a rip off is definitely a stretch

You have not because Knack is literally a direct rip off of all 3(mostly the first 2) Legend of Spyro games which i highly doubt you have played if you think calling it a rip-off is a stretch.

Here's how I would go about Knack 2:

- more open sandbox levels with 3d camera control
- more player agency in choosing when to get big or small, or use wood/ice etc, rather than have it be compulsory at various times
