Robert Downey Jr. on Iron Man 4: "Why give up the belt?"

On the set of Avengers: Age of Ultron, EW asked Downey point-blank: Does he want to star in an Iron Man 4?
His answer wasn’t so point-blank. In fact, he starts to sound a little like a Magic 8-Ball as he tries to keep it vague. But the answer I gleaned was: Signs point to yes.
“It’s down to Kevin [Feige, Marvel Studios president] and Ike [Perlmutter, CEO of Marvel Entertainment] and Disney to come to us with what the proposal is, and that’s on us to agree or disagree,” Downey said. “When things are going great, there’s a lot of agreement.”
So far, so good. Each Marvel sequel has outgrossed its predecessor, and Iron Man remains the MVP. And Downey knows it.
“Right now, this has just been swell, hasn’t it?” the actor said with a big smile, during a break in filming on Avengers sequel. “This has been a really good one and it feels good and we’re having a good time.”
Until his bosses decide he’s too rich for their blood, Downey says he’s happy to hold on to the iron mask. “It’s that thing of: Why give up the belt when it feels like you can barely get jabbed?” he says—then adds a caveat. “Most people are saying that right when they get knocked out.”
He shrugs, and until Marvel says otherwise, Downey leaves fans with points of ellipses and a grin: “The future is, as usual, uncertain.”

Sounds like there's a good chance we might get another Iron Man movie with RDJ after all.

Downey sounds like he's cutting that goddamn Sting promo before he went Crow
'The Stinger/Downey may be a little out of your price range, NWO/Marvel'
'The only thing for sure, is that nothing's for sure'

If he starts hanging out in rafters like Hawkeye watch out

I liked Iron Man 1 and Avengers.

Iron Man 2 and 3 didn't really do anything for me. The only redeeming quality is RDJ.

Iron Man 3 was a colossal turd and IM2 wasn't very hot, either. Cap2 raised the bar on the solo movies and hopefully it wont get lowered again.

I dislike superheroes and comic books, so I've not been a fan of the comic book movies I've seen, but Iron Man 1 was just incredible. Absolutely loved it. RDJ was eating up screen time like a boss.

Fell asleep towards the end of Iron Man 2 when I watched it via Netflix, haven't seen the third.

I had lost hope that RDJ would star in the eventual REAL MANDARIN installment of Iron Man 4, but now there is at least a chance.

We need Tony busting Trevor out of prison and them working together to find out who the real Mandarin is.

Iron Man 3 was fantastically entertaining, a great action film, and a gorgeous, elegant troll of both Chris Nolan's tiresome 9/11 obsession and canon-obsessed comic nerds in general. More from Shane Black, please.

Is the belt lined with lots of cash?

belt made out of solid gold and diamonds

So are we talking about something like this then?

Iron Man 3 is the best Iron Man film, so I'd like to see what they could do with a 4th one. Maybe buddy Tony and Bruce up together like what was promised at the end of Avengers.

But Trevor
was already busted out in "Hail to the King", and taken to see the REAL Mandarin

Iron Man 3 is the best marvel film so I hope it is as good.

After hearing the hate on GAF for the film, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It's the only Marvel film I've watched 3 times.

YES. Exactly this. IM3 was great fun and much, much better than IM2.

Hopefuly 4 will be much better than 2&3 which were really medicore. He needs proper fucking villain! I would love some cross-over story with Black Panther happening in Wakanda :)

So it's the same as it ever was. RDj understandably wants a HUGE payday for another Iron Man film. Disney's Marvel unit would have to change the way they do business to make that happen.

Simply put Disney/Marvel would (as it stands now) never 'break the bank' for Downey because it means they will have to break the bank for everyone.

While things can change I'd say a reboot of Iron Man (with a cheaper lead) is more likely than Disney/Marvel putting their hands in their pockets to pay people what they want.

Good chance? Hmmmm.

A chance, yes? A good chance, at the moment, no.

Downey shepherding an itself growing in size and age Marvel cinematic universe is worth money.

He should be humble IMO towards any deal Marvel/Disney wants to make (or not). Iron Man gave him a lot more than plenty of money.

This. Each IM has got worse, for my taste anyway. I love the first one though.

Re-watched avengers 1 the other day, I just don't like it at all :( I'm sorry but it is not for me. Loki was great though.

It's really Marvel, not Disney who are the cheapskate in this situation. That's why Downey specifically mentioned Perlmutter, who is known for being notoriously stingy.

Sounds like a smart man. It's a successful franchise so keep going for as long as you can. Just don't make it anything like Iron Man 3 please, that shit was awful.
