Destiny: Only one area per planet

People...keep your expectations in check and wait for release...right now there is no solid/concrete confirmation it's the case and we're still over a month from release.

I'm on the fence about all this. While Old Russia is actually an interesting area to explore the first time around, I find myself worrying about the payoff. Is it enough for people to go to a location and say, 'wow, cool'? All this talk of exploring is great and all - I mean, I love exploring too - but so far 'exploring' seems to entail travelling through the map looking in designated loot spawn areas for consumables, ghosts and the odd chest.

It was great spending an hour goofing off in a new area last night but at the bottom of those caves, again, all we found was a bunch of closed doors and chests with common items in them.

I hope the embargo for reviews is ahead of the actual release, but I'm not holding my breath.

After the beta, one area per planet/moon, does seem maybe a bit small for the sprawling mmo type game I have been pitched on. It was still a blast to play, but I'd rather hold off on a pre-order until some critical output for the whole package has come out.

I don't see how different internal expectations means it's someones fault for being disappointed in the amount of content.
People expect things based on the information given. If some people were expecting more than one area per planet and others not, it suggests the former had less information than the latter.

I knew Bungie's been working on Destiny for about five years, and a lot of that went into building a new engine. From that alone I wasn't surprised at hearing one area per planet.

A little disappointing. Then again I've already sunk a ton of hours into Old Russia, so if I get another three planets at least with a similar amount of content, I'd say I'm getting my monies worth.

It's a completely illogical argument. Someone can expect 1 or 5 hours worth of content from the game based on the information coming out. Personal interpretation can do that. That doesn't make that expectation any pointless. It doesn't work like that.

Ehhh... I put in 20+ hours between the alpha and beta, which Bungie said represents about 10% of all the content. Considering they didn't show everything available on earth, I'm okay with this. Bummed, but a decent amount of content.

Please the demo was the main reason this game got as much hype as it did (on here at least). Let''s not kid ourselves.

I know. But they may also get hit by this. It's a lot of work and a lot of money. Destiny may end up on the up, but most games wouldn't.

yeah im a bit afraid that this will mainly be a multiplayer shoot em up instead of a coop experience

When was I talking about people's assumed hours of enjoyment from Destiny?

Are we sure of that? The sample moon mission picked up at the level right after the last earth one.

We are sure about absolutely nothing, which is why I don't understand why a lot of people are freaking out about this.

There are closed off areas in the beta that you cannot get to and we only go to about 66% of the map for Old Russia, that would imply there is more things to do that we haven't seen yet.

Also its a beta, many things will be different in the final version.

That's my point. Some people on the other hand, are simply saying that people who are dissapointed by this, shouldn't be, because hey, they played the beta for 20 or whatever hours, that means they now expect to get 80-100 hours out of Destiny, and that is clearly more than enough in their mind, and therefor it's also enough for everyone else

If people think that one zone per planet/moon is more than enough for them, based on what they got out of the beta, great, good for them. Just don't tell other people that they are wrong for being dissapointed

What did you expect though?

The single areas you're so disappointed about are huge, and we hadn't even seen all they have to offer yet.

You see "one area per planet" and take that to mean "lack of content".

We haven't seen how much they'll open up. There's nothing to be disappointed about until retail hits and we know for sure.

I was hyped after the beta, but that sounds like a serious lack of content, I might hold off on buying it for now.

Do you know how large each if these single areas will be?

No, so you can't say "it sounds like lack of content".

Especially as it's obvious the areas haven't been open up fully to us yet...

I have played 23 hours of Beta alone. So I am sure the game will not be shorter than any other game right now.

There was no information given about what to expect when it comes to the amount of area's on a planet.

This is a thread about exactly that. What were you talking about then? By hours I mean it can be converted to number of planets or whatever have you the points the same. Interpretations comes in many shapes and sizes.

Oh man, that sucks, especially for the guys who've done the alpha and beta now. There is literally nothing else left for them to do on earth, save for a few small regions, otherwise it's the same Old Russia again.

You really have to wonder, they've been wanting to make this since 2008, have been working on it since 2009 for sure, and I'm kind of assuming why we didn't really see much beyond Old Russia and that Devil Walker tank thing again and again. It's because that was all they had really planned for Earth.

Ah that sucks. I guess we're going to see a lot of dlc then

Ding! Ding! Ding!

This whole game seems to have been made with DLC and huge profits in mind for Activision. I fully expect the final cost of the game, when you include all the DLC to be in the hundreds of dollars.

Thanks, but no thanks!

I don't think much will change this close to release apart from bug fixes/balancing and such.

I planned on maybe getting the game when it's around 20 pounds, but if it's going to be light on content, on top on everything else, I'll wait until I can get the
Bungie
Game of the Year edition for the same sum or maybe just skip it altogether. This is turning into quite a trainwreck indeed, as far as I'm concerned.

Sounds much more like you're making a lot of assumptions about the size of these areas and making a silly absolute statement.

Dude, this thread is litterally about how there is only 1 zone per planet in Destiny. And everything we know says there is only 4 planets/moon in the game. 1 of 4 is 25%

The Destiny Grimoire shows the following high level places: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Moon, Jupiter, Saturn and The City (The Tower).

We've also seen a multiplayer map on Mars in the Iron Banner match which suggests that there is Mars content as well. Also one of the intro cut scenes in the beta was set on Mars.

Holy shit. I can't..

This is an epic thread.

Let's play the first 4 missions in Almost ANY game then turn it off because fuck.. Those mission we're short

I won't touch his other points but all of the missions are like 10 minutes. They're MMO caliber throwaway fluff. It's not even comparable to a more traditional FPS experience.

I think people we're expecting that which, per my earlier point, is causing this backlash.

The amount of content is disappointing, but the lies make me really angy.

What about Chicago? What about Mumbai?

What about "see these mountains? - you can go there".

Not cool Bungie, not cool.

Bungie has built a ton of good will with this beta. I think it is time for an actual info drop and let people know exactly what is in the game, average length to play through the campaign (yes I know end game gear farming is limited only by your own desire), number of PVP maps, how many strikes there are in total, and other pieces of information responsible consumers want before buying a game.

"Beta" usually means the content in a game is complete and they are only doing minor bug fixes.

Did you notice how many areas were blocked of for us?

It is obvious to anyone paying attention that we've not seen the full size of Old Russia or the Moon.

Some of the missions, I think I just sprinted in, threw a grenade, did my super, meleed and was done in literally less than 5 minutes. I think only the level 5 and level 6 strike missions took me longer than most because they were artificially lengthened with ridiculously high bullet sponge bosses or wait and fight mechanics, ie. Wait for the ghost to finish and fight off waves of the same enemy.
