I don't understand this sentiment. If they added matchmaking, it's not like you would ever have to use it. You could still go to the forum and find 5 other people to play with and go about your merry way. It would just give the option for people to do it with randoms if they wanted to play that content with the convenience of matchmaking.Just like the way it should be. Great work. It's good to see that not every company is willing to screw the hardcore masses in favor of free legendary items to everyone for 10 minute work just because they can't handle tough bosses.
Exactly. I don't see the point of penalising anyone who won't have 6 Destiny playing friends on their list.
This is the best route IMO
Randoms tend to jerk around and I'm not about that life.

I think you can still do that, you're just not going to be matchmade with those people. I'm assuming they don't mean "friends" on your friends list... just people you've teamed up with (aka fireteam).Yea, getting vidmasters with some randoms who don't use mics would be hard, just like getting to wave 50 of gears 3 horde would be hard. There are situations where I was able to get hour + long firefight games with friends of friends (complete strangers) and wave 50 runs in gears with randoms though. Those people ended up being on the friends list. Beating Gears 1 in coop on Insane was not all that easy either but I played through it with a random with a mic and he's been on my friendlist ever since.
Thank you for that insightful reply.
Care to elaborate?
You can group with randoms everywhere elseThis is not a good move imo. The few players that I am friends with might not all be online at the times we want to raid. Grouping with randoms is part of the social interaction with multiplayer games and a way to meet new friends to game with. Yet another piece of info about this game that makes me lean towards passing on this title.
Thank you for that insightful reply.

Laughing so hard at "destroyed any sense of accomplishment"
My sense of accomplishment doesn't change based on other players completing content.

These raids sound like they're extremely difficult. Having randoms in a group (esp. those w/o mics) would be an unmitigated disaster.
Good luck getting six players together at once. I thought Bungie would have learned their lesion here with ODST.
chat has nothing to do with it.
I read itWhat part of my post did you not read? What about the time when I want to Raid and my friends are not online to play?
Apparently you WILL be able to do thisThey didn't say you can't make a group up in the tower then hit the Raid, did they?
I'm thinking people don't have to be on your IRL Friends list, just an organised group... could be completely wrong here, but that would make more sense (to me at least).

A solution to this would actually be an in game list of LFG players allowing something like a Raid with not enough people to pick and choose someone they would want to invite.
Add an option to inspect players on the list remotely, so raid leaders can see that they're not using awful gear. Maybe a brief message that can be set by the player that the raid group can see in the LFG browsing window.
They have the hooks in place to inspect players already, and a fairly robust in game friend list. Tweak it to allow an in game browser of people
From a player perspective - they can set their LFG flag on, go off and do some other activities.
If a raid with 5 players need one more person, they can browse a list of players looking for a raid and invite the one that looks good to them.
TL;DR - something like the Flex Raiding system from WoW - instead of matchmaking form a raid from a list of players in game.
There will always be a small group of people that may be short a few people on a given night - instead of calling it off they can still pick up people to at least give it a try.
They say voice chat is a necessity in Raids due to difficulty.

All modes should have optional matchmaking. This is ridiculous.
Yes but that isn't the reason raids don't have matchmaking.

Or implemented on a patch.Matchmaking will be sold separately as part of the DLC.
Then don't do matchmaking! Having matchmaking wouldn't make the experience worse for you, someone who would rather not play with randoms. Instead of giving me the option to have a probably subpar, but easily playable experience, that's a part of the game I'll never be able to play.
How is that good?
Yes but that isn't the reason raids don't have matchmaking.

But how would you do that if there's no way to communicate with other players? Invite people at random? Have the community form a secret handshake system where dancing in a secluded corner of the tower signifies your willingness to join a raid? They didn't say you can't make a group up in the tower then hit the Raid, did they?

But with no open chat an no text chat that will be pretty much impossible to do unless you message every individual through PSN.
