Funimation?

Funimation

Expect thier discs to have light/medium scratches on their discs.

Seems like they employ ppl that dont know how to press discs.

Buy at your own risk

Pretty sure ADV is hellbent on taking the Eva rights with them to their graves.

I'm pretty sure ADV hasn't had the rights to the original NGE for years, otherwise the DVDs would still be in print. Not to mention "ADV" barely exists anymore; Sentai Filmworks has taken their place for complicated legal reasons.

Anyway, excited to get the Bebop BDs! It'll be nice to finally replace my old Bandai set.

Cowboy Bebop and possibly Outlaw Star Blurays for America? A God (or possibly many) really does exist. Now I just need to figure out which of the religions got it right so I can worship him/her, them or it.

You guys are focusing on the wrong thing: the biggest upgrade in this set isn't the picture but the audio.

I have the UK BD release and man does it sound amazing. Those of you with a good quality 5.1 set-up are in for a treat.

Oh, and Sub>Dub any day of the week. Why you wouldn't want to listen to Megumi Hayashibara is beyond me.
I still can't believe the movie blu-ray only has stereo. I think the dvd has 5.1 which makes it weirder.

It's precisely because ADV barely exists that they're out of print. What's left of ADV proper continues to exist purely as a shell for suing Gainax at this point. Or at least, that's my understanding of it.

The NA Blu-ray is worthless. The Japanese one has 5.1 audio.

Anyway, preordered the Amazon BR.

Not sure where that's come from but it's not true. As a result of the restructuring that laid ADV to rest, the license to Evangelion was transferred to AEsir Holdings. Gainax didn't allow the license to be renewed in 2011, and isn't allowing anyone to renew licenses for it. It's out of print in regions that ADV, AEsir, and Section23 have nothing to do with. Realistically speaking, it won't be in print again until the eventual blu-ray releases that will occur sometime after the last movie comes out.

Likely reverse importation concerns. The Japanese licensors got even more paranoid once Japan and North America were under the same region code.

For example, here's a screencap from the BD:

Looks like they cleaned up the brightness problems with the Bandai DVDs? Seeing more of the image in the BD as well.

here those are in comparison with the Remastered DVD:

I'm impressed they managed to up the resolution, colors, and bitrate.

Correct. And you're locked in at that price.

I'm filling out my pre-order now, even if I am still a little skeptical about the $70 tag. Hope it's a worthwhile edition.
Awesome, thanks. Went ahead and pre-ordered because I'm afraid this will end up being limited quantity. $70 is definitely steep for, what, 26 episodes? Still, if any show is worth it, it's this.

Preordered.

Hopefully there's info soon for Escaflowne blu-ray soon, too. I'm really hoping that they manage to include an option of viewing the first 7 eps with the additional scenes in tact. Even after buying the series on DVD I kept a hold of the first 2 VHS fansub tapes I had because I was used to the scenes being included and felt like the music flowed better with their inclusion. I can see the reasoning behind giving us just the broadcast episodes for the DVDs, but I would hope with blu-ray they can give both options.

That's true, even $70 is still pricey for a 26 episode show when you think about it. I guess I've gotten too used to
over
paying for $30+ Criterion blu-rays lately, so I was expecting this to be crazy expensive :lol

I bought Bakemonogatari for $150... that show only has 15 episodes.

I'll gladly pay $70 for 26 episodes. Anime pricing is redonk and this one is fair compared to others.

I think it helps to rationalize the price when you think of the show in terms of production quality and not 26 x 23 minute episodes. Even if you're the kind of person who thinks of entertainment in money vs time of entertainment I think this is a good deal because Bebop is high enough quality to be extremely rewatchable.

Agreed. I was prepared to pay way more than $70 based on some other anime releases I've seen in the past, so this is great.

I wonder what the "premium" editions will have. Complete soundtrack included? Not sure if that's aiming too high as far as bonuses go, but I'd love it.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese anime (I'm an expert), but Bebop is highly overrated.

Man I paid like 20 or 30 bucks for each of the six original DVDs, this is a good deal.

$70 is actually quite inexpensive compared to other sets.

Even the DVD sets used to go for a few hundred dollars.

Soundtrack CDs would be great, but I'm hoping for a fat, high quality, English translated production book much like Honneamise included with their DVD releases. I bet looking at what was included with the JP release would be a good place to start on predictions.

We can quickly find out how much of an expert you are by listing your top 3 anime of all time. Come on sparky, give it a shot.

This is what the JP LE bluray box included:
Includes the complete 26 episodes. Comes also 32-page booklet, opening and ending storyboard, illustration postcard, piece of film, novel written by Keiko Nobumoto, special DVD (Cowboy Bebop Extra Session). Box and digital jacket were illustrated by Toshihiro Kawamoto!
Special Feature / Bonus Track: non-super ED, TV spot collection, music clips, picture drama "Ein's Summer Vacation" (subject to change), audio commentary from its 5.1ch DVD-BOX set

It was also $350 USD for reference...

Definitely preordered! $70 is a bit more than I would've liked, but I guess it depends on what it comes with. At least this isn't being released by Aniplex...

This Amazon offer almost seems too good to be true. Any chance the Amazon exclusive edition is inferior to the normal or other special editions?
