Does MS have any potential xbo system sellers releasing before Sunset Overdrive in late October? If they don't then there may be nothing they can do to combat the bump Destiny will give Ps4 and Sony could have nearly two months of uncontested dominance. This is assuming of course that Destiny doesnt move many xbos and Sunset will.

So assuming it's sold at least 250k in the time between that and August 10, that means the WW haul accounts for around 60%. Pretty good.

Nope, and even SO won't be a system seller since it'll get buried int he Oct. Rush of games between AC and CoD.

Their biggest potential system seller would be MCC, but they'll have to couple that with some bundling and promotions, otherwise it probably won't do much.

Every single one of my predictions either has come true in some shape or form or was based on sound enough reasoning where the likelihood of it happening was nearly as feasible as it not happening so continue finding the most popular bandwagon to jump on instead of opening your eyes to the possibilities out there.

I'd go into more detail now but the ferocity with which I'm typing this servage into my phone is making the old lady on the train sitting next to me nervous.

A wise man once said, Be careful what old threads you dig up 'cause you just might get buried.

WTF ARE YOU TALKIIIIINGGGG ABOUT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

Seriously, it's really hard to dig one's self out of a hole, STHAP!

Sony REALLY smoked MS....was really even at E3, but Sony took Gamescom far mor seriously...any good news from MS got drowned out by the Tomb Raider exclusivity

So you honestly believe all of Sony's many studios are simply, what, sitting on their hands doing nothing? Why is it so many people seem to think like this?

Short term memory, last gen it took a while for Sony's first party to heat up and then there was an avalanche of high quality titles from them every year like clockwork. I expect the same this gen. You're already seeing it with some of the 2015 titles and I'm sure there's a bunch of stuff that will be announced for next year.

I just don't believe that... yeah maybe sony might be hesitant about a new motorstorm (with driveclub engine drools) but I dont feel they wont release new versions of the games listed

They will release new versions.. but it not going to come in flood like the old PS3 days. It looks like it will be 2-3 games year.

Next year: 1886, Bloodbourne ... May be Uncharted or GT6:port. What else with big production values.

There will be lot of good games from other publishers and Indie developers. But Sony as a publisher is not going to make AAA, big budget games as they used to.

Don't bring the hate if you don't want me to have to regulate. I don't want to continue to interrupt all the joy in hear with doses of reality, so I'll step out.

Before I do, lemme hit you with some more ratios to chew on. NA has about 500 mil consumers who bought about 3 mil XB1's so far. China has about 2.5 times that population, yes? 1:2.5 :: 3mil : ? I'm not saying its gonna happen. I'm just saying don't discount it.

I agree its over. The faster this accelerates the less power MS has to keep money hatting games.

This is my hope. Though I personally never cared for Tomb Raider, it does suck to have
it exclusive to a competing platform, despite being a staple of the PlayStation brand.

Luckily for PS/PC fans, it's a timed exclusive.

PS4 will probably be nearing the 20 million mark come January 2015.

It is literally going to hardly even put an incremental dent into the gap Sony has right now. That's how little those territories mean for Microsoft, because of how much Sony dominates them.

so you're a defeatist by nature then? Did you not see the selection of bundles announced today? "Give the people a choice, and they will buy it in droves" -Apple co.

I didn't want to have to do this and reply on a point by point basis, but when you're called out sometimes you have no choice but to tell the wife to take the kids to the park for an hour 'cause papa's got some truth_bombs_ to get out there to the populace.

more predictions:

-WiiU will rebound to eventually surpass or at least come very close to gamecube lifetime numbers

Didn't WiiU have it's best sales month is the longest time last month? Isn't it coming out with a flurry of huge titles that all look pretty damn appetizing? Nintendo has gone "all in" with the WiiU and they'll be damned if it doesn't reach gamecube like sales levels. Check.

-PS4 will have similar DRM to XB1.

Don't they both have similar DRM now? Check #2.

-XB1 will bow to pressure and require games to "check in" to their servers about once a month (instead of every 24hrs) sort of like steam does. PS4 will follow suit.

Didn't MS bow to the pressure on DRM, Kinect, and pretty much everything else with the lot of you said "no way does MS change course now!" Check #3.

-After strong initial backlash against XB1/PS4 DRM, most will forget about it like DLC this gen because most gamers won't be willing to abandon "next-gen" and go PC only

Most gamers have forgotten about DRM just like I said. Does it even come up in conversation anymore? Next-gen sales when you combine all three consoles show that the market hasn't abandoned them. "I do this." -Carmelo Anthony

-PS4 will have gold/silver plans with online multiplayer falling under the gold charged plan. The gold plan will include free games and other features like PSN+ so not so bad

Isn't multiplayer behind a paywall now for PS4? Icalleditcolbert.gif

-PS4 will come out with their own "surface" app (not vita). Surface will be pretty big and innovative

Surface 3.0 is burning up the review charts. If you read through message board posts, there's like a 95% approval rating from supposed owners. Sony has apps letting you connect to PS4 and their echosystem. Holla at yah.

-TV will eventually be transmitted almost entirely over the internet (iptv) and MS is positioning XB1 to be a trojan-horse provider, worldwide. No extra equipment required. May not explode, but I see it happening in a few years and could be a big selling point.

This is still too early to call, but we all know iptv is the future and XB1 is perfectly positioned to get in on that action. Check mate... mate.

Congrats to Sony but I feel that Microsoft is talking the talk and walking the walk a lot more than they are, even if it's just for the last few months. They're still coasting on the mad hype of the PS4, but if things keep going the way they are now I can see Xbox catching up in sales (not any time soon, obviously, but eventually) as MS continue to innovate and serve the consumer more exciting and crowd-pleasing news.

congrats Sony. I haven't got much use out of my ps4 so far, but am looking forward to enjoying it some more after Destiny is out, and then once Guilty Gear Xrd hits.

Is there anyone here who works in logistics who can guess a figure for the 'shipped' figures to date?

Even if we assume the 10 million'th PS4 sold to a customer some time today before the press conference, how many extra consoles are likely to be on container ships sailing the wide oceans, and how many in distributor's warehouses and retailer's stockrooms.

Shipment numbers are probably over 11 million and maybe even 12 million by now. Japan makes this harder to determine. I think the majority of the consoles shipped to Japan are not sold if we look at the weekly Media create numbers.

He told his wife to get the kids off the Xbox and take them to the park... Or something like that.

I'm certainly warming to him (and his tag) though - there's a definite streak of humour going on in his posts now (I hope deliberately).

They on course for 15 million by the end of the year perhaps?

Just 5m between now and Xmas should be about right with Destiny and GTA5.

More than 15 million. They're already at over 10 million, they should do another 600k or so in August, a million or so in Sept. so they'll be at 11-12 million heading into the Holidays. If stock allows, I think they could do 5 million over the Oct-Dec. Period for a total of 16-17 million by the end of the year.

Wii shipped 10m in 7-10 months. Likely closer to 7.5-8.5 judging the numbers.
The PS4 sold 10m in 8 months.

I think the PS4 is outpacing the Wii.

The Wii was dealing with severe supply issues in the first year or two of it's life. So shipment numbers should be closer to sold through numbers for the Wii.

Again, they'll far exceed 15M. PS3 on its 1st full holiday sold 5M alone, PS4 stlll has 2 months to go this quarter, gets Destiny, white PS4, GTAV, is faaar more popular than PS3, cheaper.

By Dec 31 PS4 will sell atleast 18M but I'm betting 20M.

How about this? A Dashboard update and an unprecedented level of media support. Microsoft has promised .mkv support while Sony only just gets around to adding a YouTube app.

Tomb Raider is a big deal for the Bone, even bigger than Destiny or Batman for PlayStation because it's actually tangibly exclusive on Xbox. Then there's a console with a 1TB hard drive, pre-loading, and a fuller and more impressive Fall line-up.

Microsoft's E3 was a seriously impressive showing, and they've done it again at Gamescom. Sony have done well, but in my opinion MS have just been the better company in showing off why I need to get their console.

innovative ways of money hatting games.

As a console maker, is it their duty to pay and develop games ?. What is wrong when Microsoft spends money to get more games on their consoles ?.

Would you just have Journey, Unfinished Swan, Flower, Flow ported over again and again ?

They're start is great but anything can happen from this point. Won't the XB1 selling in more markets open up the potential for more customers to buy it? Perhaps not gangbusters, but it's more than the (near) zero it is now in those markets. Surely you can see that at least?

1) Xbox One is already available in those market through grey market

2) You don't have a single clue of how chinese market works.

There are a few problems with the idea of catching up easily. Most of what MS doing in nuanced. If you've been paying attention you can applaud their direction. The people who would be paying attention (the hardcore) will probably forgive them and grab it as their second machine.

But they lost the mainstream in the broad strokes. A lot of people still think they have restrictive drm. A lot of people still remember they are less power for a higher price and now the same price. Those are the two messages that hit the mainstream which makes a quick comeback unlikely; even a long term one like the PS3 or SNES came about through other markets and a strong first party. XB1 has no other markers and is trying to build up their first party (Mattrick decimated it).

What in the fuck....

1) How has Sony been coasting
2) Where is MS going to get the sales to beat the PS4 so much that it not only catches it but surpasses it?
3) Where is MS innovating?

A XB1 is a months salary for the average urban chinese, unless it's open for piracy it won't move many units there. Even the PS4s uptake will be only slightly more. It's way too expensive for the market.
