I gotta say, the lack of Mewtwo and a third Donkey Kong character really bums me out, but aside from that I'd be really happy with this roster. I hope we get a new character reveal soon so we can determine for sure whether the leak is real or fake. Though, even if the leak is confirmed to be real, the supposed DLC characters are still up in the air...

Stellar. I too think DK of all franchises should get a newcomer, but hot damn this looks good.
Also if the leaker is to be believed, we still don't know the exact status of Mewtwo for some reason.

I tend to agree with you. The newcomers we have so far have me really excited, and I feel like the roster is pretty strong as it is. Sure, there's some aspects I'm not a fan of (Dr. Mario of all veterans) but I'm sure I'll like it. I recall not being a huge fan of Brawl's final roster either but I still put tons of hours into the game.

thinking about it, i believe future iterations of smash will include more clones into the roster to fill space.
this is probably a direction sakurai would go if the leaks are true, where sakurai will include old clones like pichu or whatnot.

I agree with being bummed out over DK (and Metroid) still only having 2 characters (and for Metroid it's the same person just with different suits), especially in comparison to Fire Emblem and Kid Icarus (which have 4 and 3 characters respectively).

I also really feel like Wario and F-Zero could do with a second character as well... maybe in Smash 5.

If it's true that Miis are in the same spot as Random the resulting empty space bugs me. There's room for just one more character and there are a heap of choices.
Also, are you gonna finish this once the full roster is released and we get the renders for everybody? I'd like to see how the roster would look without that orange explosion as a background in the actual game.

I think Rhythm Heaven was considered a franchise "worthy" of inclusion, just that there's so many characters that it would be difficult to pin down on one. The wrestler and karate guy seemed normally to be the "favored" characters since they actually are fighters.
Honestly, if the leaked roster is real, with the DLC the only other character I really want (who isn't extremely unreasonable like Phoenix Wright or Hatsune Miku or something) is Ridley. Which I'm okay with the game not having because then Ridley basically gets cemented as an inside Smash community joke (who will almost certainly make Smash 5 if the demand continues).

So you go around trashing the leak, saying it's so stupid, how could anyone believe this, etc, but when it comes down to it the most you're willing to bet is six months? Mate, I've got some news for you. The leak is real. The Famitsu scans already confirmed it, and insisting on waiting for a character reveal is only delaying the inevitable. However, if you really still believe with all your heart that the leak is fake, prove it to everyone and yourself and take my 30 year avatar bet. You've got nothing to worry about, right?

I agree totally with another Wario character, but not with F-Zero, I really like the series but I can't see anybody else as a good character for smash and F-Zero have a lot of characters, the same with Metroid, besides Ridley I can't think of anybody else to represent Metroid series as a playable character

There's plenty of options for F-Zero that would be plausible - Samurai Goroh, for instance, or Pico. Jody Summers is some military type. Super Arrow a super hero. Plenty of villains too with Zoda, Deathborne, and Black Shadow. Heck you could make Blood Falcon a clone to give the current Ganondorf moveset to.
There's also Dr. Clash with his robotic Doc Ock-esque arms, and many other characters that would be interesting playstyle-wise, like Octoman.
Metroid also has numerous options beyond Ridley - any of the soldiers from Other M (particularly Anthony), any of the other hunters from Prime 3 and Prime Hunters, Dark Samus, or Bimmy the Space Pirate.
WarioWare's characters are about as significant to their series as F-Zero pilots are, as well.
And from Wario Land the only plausible addition is Syrup.Error404SwagNotFound

As much as I'd like to see Ridley in the game, I wouldn't really care much if he didn't get in. Metroid, to me, feels like a franchise that doesn't really need more character representation. It's not exactly a character heavy franchise, after all. It makes sense that other franchises like Fire Emblem, Kid Icarus, Star Fox, and EarthBound/MOTHER have more characters since they're much more character heavy franchises, so it doesn't really concern me that Metroid only gets two versions of Samus. Ridley would make sense, but isn't necessary to me.

I probably wouldn't have considered Chorus Kids specifically, but I did consider Marshal prior to part 2 of the Gematsu leak, which is pretty similar. Marshal always seemed like a more obvious choice than the Chorus Kids, but in hindsight I can understand why they would go with Chorus Kids instead.

Obligatory statement from me as a long time smashboards user and friend to many moderators:
The Smash 4 forums are not indicative of the actual quality of Smashboards. There's many idiots of course (it IS a big forum after all), but those usually stay in their own little corners. The actually worthwhile discussions, e.g. competitively oriented stuff, is usually higher quality and the moderators handling that are generally cool guys/gals.
But are they really representative of the series? with F-Zero maybe Black Bull or any of the original 4 (Pico, Dr. Steward and Samurai Goroh) everyone else its forgetable.
And for Metroid, non of the ones you mentioned could be easily recognized by someone that isn't a fan of Metroid (I think), a space pirate would be like adding a koopa troopa, I liked Anthony on Other M but as a smash character would be meh, the only good one for me could be Dark Samus but its another Samus (even if its not really samus) it would be like Dark Pit and you will have people arguing that is a wasted slot or stuff like that.
That's why I find it hard to have more characters from those series even if they totally deserve it

So are, imo at least, the myriad of Fire Emblem characters, or Pokemon.
So? Palutena and Pittoo are not easily recognized by someone that isn't a fan of Kid Icarus Uprising. All the Fire Emblem people aren't easily recognized by someone that isn't a fan of Fire Emblem or Smash (at least for Marth and Ike). Same goes for Wario characters - I doubt anybody who isn't a fan of the series knows about people like Jimmy T, Captain Syrup or Ashley.
And then there's Ice Climbers, G&W, R.O.B., Pit before KI:U and other retro characters. Being recognizable means little to nothing for being picked for a roster.

As for Anthony, I'm just saying that the series has characters beyond Ridley to pick from.If we can get Fox, Falco and Wolf in the same game, and can have a playable Wii Fit Trainer and Pac-Man, I don't believe having a second F-Zero or Metroid character would be specifically out of the question.
Karate Joe is often a favourite guess because he appears in every title. His games also have significant placements: first game in the GBA version, final game in the DS and Wii versions. Also his game is the final encore version in the Wii game as well.

I agree that it would lose its fun very quickly, but that's not really what I'm looking for in the first place. I'm trying to prove a point that the leak is so obviously and definitely real I have no problem with doing something as ridiculous as a 30 year avatar bet. And if Sah changes his avatar I really don't care.

I'd be perfectly fine with it as long as it's someone that makes sense, like Dark Samus. The whole reason I want Ridley in the first place is because Metroid needs more damn reps other than Samus and Samus. (And no, Dark Samus is not Samus.)

Add me to the camp that feels strongly Donkey Kong and Metroid need third reps preferably Ridley and Dixie Kong. I mean aside from Fire Emblem having four Star Fox has 3! Dixie has been playable in three main games a lot more than a lot of Smash characters. She's also in spinoffs like Diddy Kong Racing and Mario Baseball. I don't care how big Ridley is, he's the main antagonist of the series (while neatly never being a main antagonist of a game). He's in 6 games out of 9.
It also feels bad because Donkey County has been developed by the West while the Metroid Prime series is highly regarded. It feels exclusionary to treat the two most Western developed franchises with only two reps.

As a fan of the Metroid series, and someone who's been wanting Ridley since before the announcement of Melee
and thought he was gonna be in the game after seeing the intro/trailer video back then, which he wasn't :C
So far, every Smash game has had a Metroid stage in which there's rising lava/acid, with only 2 stages being different from that, and only one of those 2 actually fun to play on (Frigate Orpheon).
The only characters the Metroid franchise has gotten is Samus in her 2 different outfits. The series, by now, has introduced many characters that are fit to become fighters, even beyond Ridley, so there's no excuse on that front - even if it's "not a character driven series".
Most of the music that the Smash series has used for the series are either directly taken from the game or not all that amazingly rearranged (though there's some decent ones).
I'm glad that at least in this installment, Metroid is getting some really cool Assist Trophies with Dark Samus and Mother Brain, and some enemies in SmashRun, but I still feel like Metroid just doesn't get as much love as it deserves.
And Donkey Kong doesn't get the love it deserves either.
That confirms wigs which means I'm one step closer to potentially being able to fight in the beehive. Come on Sakurai, you know it's the best Mii headpiece!
