The Golf Club release Aug. 19th on Xbox One and PC, PS4 later this month

I just put two bears on top of a 200 foot plateau in the middle of a fairway.

Wow, that's pretty fantastic. The fact that you can do that means I'm probably picking it up on PS4 next week.

E: And I found this video on YouTube...So as long as the general golf impressions are solid (which they seem to be), this game will be mine.

As for the gameplay, it's fantastic. Really if you like golf or golf games you should check it out. I've only ever played golf games with the 3 click system, but after just a few rounds I'm figuring out how much I need to pull back and how hard to swing. I'm not fantastic but I can get par about half the time, considering I just started I'm pleased with that. In summary this game's awesome and the caddie is a sarcastic ass.

This is my primary concern- I've only ever played three-click (Powerstar most recently, and Hot Shots on Vita/PSP/PS2). Is it that quick to adjust to?

There's no demo for this, right?

Also, skimming, but how's perf on XB1? Don't care about res but the perf glitches (friends list) I see for PS4 are making me wonder if there's any noticable blah-ness on XB1, where I'd buy.

Haven't played tiger in years because of how stupid and arcadey they got.

Tiger woods is like Tony Hawk. The Golf Club is like Skate.

Really? I felt like the newest Tiger Woods title was much more realistic with how the shots worked. Older titles were more like Hot Shots with the shot meter and such. Which of the two does this play like in that respect?

Picked it up last night and initially I have to say I'm disappointed with it. Maybe I need to pump more time in to it, but the frame rate is pretty poor as well and it's noticeable.

Does this have local multiplayer?

Yeah.

The frame rate is not the greatest and there are some weird pop in issues when the camera pans, but personally I am pretty surprised at how much I like it. The mechanics feel just... perfect. Also, someone else mentioned it, but the "low key" presenter and overall minimalistic presentation indeed makes it feel very down to earth, similar to the old LINKS games.

I wish they had a better UI for course selection, but this game is a gem if you can look past some technical issues.

Is that the One or the PS4 version?

I read that the PS4 version is slightly improved, but I notice it in the PS4 version as well. I uploaded 3 10 minutes videos of my first tournament yesterday. I can send you the links if you want.

Yeah.

Yeah it seems like a nice game, but could just do with a little polish, maybe they might get it optimized with a few patches and hit a solid 60. Or maybe I'm just living in hope.

Ok, cheers.

I saw the XB1 videos on Gamersyde and the framrate was a bit rough, I'm no expert but it looked well below 30, are we talking the same here too?

I'd actually love to read any post release statements from the dev about future patches/possible work on the game. If anyone finds something, please post it here.

I sent you the links, the general gameplay is not "well" below 30, but there are some obvious stutter frames that are a bit annoying at first. The video compression isnt perfect, but if you can deal with how the video is looking, you'll be fine with the game as well.

For the reason you mentioned and because the high focus on user created content, I was very wary of picking this up. Really glad I did though.

I made a 9 hole course for PS4 with a few tricky surprises, called "The Cabin in the Hilly Woods". Would be great if some of you tried it :)

Its a bit harder than the normal courses, but I still shouldnt have been 34 over PAR on my first try, ugh. To play custom courses, you need to select Play -> Play Round -> Stroke Play -> More and then press triangle to search for course names.

Probably going to try again later, because 34 over is just... lol.

Pulled the trigger on this one and am loving it! If anyone is interested in adding me, my PSN name is Invisblswordsman.

Is there any sort of progress outside of your skill? Like, rating, level, etc? More curious than anything.

Also, add me on PSN - nicoga3000. Once I get my PS4 on Tuesday, I'll start adding folks and playing some custom courses!

No progression at all. Just learning how to play better. It's refreshing in it's simplicity I think.

I agree, you sort of have some achievements if you are looking for challenges, but its really just you and the golf courses.

And that editor is brilliant.

Will try take a look at that course over the weekend Toma, got a bowls match tonight and tomorrow. Attempting to retain my title in my local area mixed pairs final on the Saturday.

Cool thanks. Think I'll pick this up after Destiny now.

No progression isn't a bad thing, but only if everything functions at a perfect level. Sounds like a few frame rate issues aside, this game is the best sim available.

I'm excited to dive into the course editor. If my dad were into gaming, this would be his poison. I'll probably try and recreate some courses I played growing up. Nostalgia, baby.

Definitely one of the most rewarding golf games I've ever played. Even the most recent Tiger games feel very arcade-like compared to this. With every Tiger games I've ever played at no point would I ever do anything but aim for the center of the green - even from far more then 300 yards out. With this games there are definitely times when playing a bit conservatively is the way to go.

As others have pointed out the games needs the option to take an unplayable shot. As a personally preference I would want the shot distances adjusted slightly upward. The max distance for a drive in the game is really short.

I think I would like to add some PS4 players for the leaderboards. Anyone in need of a golf leaderboard pal?

Also, they are currently still on fixing the technical issues on all platforms, but mid term plans through winter/spring are looking into these:
We are going to be looking at a handicap system and a country club-style clan set up plus some extended player customisation. We’ll also be putting out a few new themes, such as a tropical one, improving the depth of commentary, adding a few more play modes, improved course editing tools and some special JCauthen cameras (as we call them here).

Sweet.

Did they fix this game yet? The early XB1 impressions make it sound like hot trash.

No clue about Xbone, but on PS4 its a really cool game with some minor technical issues. Easily the best golf game I've played in ages.

If you want, I can send you 30 minutes of PS4 footage I took.

If you care about bells and whistles and presentation then this game is probably "hot trash."

If you care about pitch-perfect mechanics and endless course variety then this is basically the best golf game ever made.

Just did my best round so far, 3 under par at 68 on the Yuma desert club course.
Edit: Also had my first Eagle, woop.

Apparently my videos arent terribly bad at convincing others that the game isnt utter trash =p

Yeah.

PS4 version? It does remind me of Links, which is very appealing to me.

Edit: Shame to hear the PS4 version also has performance issues..

Yeah, PS4 for me. Lovely game. Really surprised about this gem.

It does, but its not really that bad, seriously, it doesnt impact me playing the game at all. Mostly the occasional frame stutter, but that is really bearable.

If you want I can send you my PS4 videos as well.

I am strangely excited about improving my shot count to 14 over par on my own course from previously +30. Might have made it a tad too hard, oh well.

This absolutely makes me as happy as Links did.

PS4 version got a patch and I feel like I don't see as much framerate hitching as before.

Game is so good. Got my girlfriend hooked on it. I'm not sure what they were thinking with the clouds though. Very poorly done but doesn't deter from how much fun I have playing this game. Hopefully the community stays active for a long time and keeps producing courses

There are quite a few courses up already, I think the bigger problem is finding worthwhile courses as the search mask is horrible. If you find a user made course that is great, post it here!

Is anyone else getting disconnected mid round constantly?

Also is there a way to play the courses I create offline normally (not in the weird editor play mode?)

It's not bad on PS4, but they really should let local players all use their logged in PSN account rather than having player two and etc. just be 'guests'.

It's really disappointing whenever games with local multiplayer on PS4 don't support the identities (and trophy earning) of all the players. Way too many games are getting this wrong.

Is anyone else getting disconnected mid round constantly?

I get it on occasion and can't see any rhyme or reason for it. I played Friday with not one disconnection, yet had four yesterday within an hour of each other!? I can usually reconnect within seconds though, but it's still annoying, especially when you're playing with a live player.

Also is there a way to play the courses I create offline normally (not in the weird editor play mode?)

No, but this would be a cool addition to the game if they could make it happen.

Does anyone know if this supports cross platform play? My friend has it on PC and I wanna buy the PS4 version, can I play with him?

No, not yet but HBS is working on it. The problem they're having is how Sony and Microsoft restrict Gamertags and User Names on their networks. Their restrictions are different and you could be pitted against a PC player who has an "offensive" user name (according to Sony) and be in violation of their terms of use.

I think the solution would be to have everyone who wants to play cross platform create a The Golf Club user name at HB Studios official forum, a user name that meets Sony and Microsoft's acceptance criteria, and you would play against cross platform players using their HBS user name. HBS is giving this option some consideration, but I don't know where it stands right now.

Wait, you can't play your own courses in just a standard stroke play? You have to be in the built-in editor to experience it?
