Dayum I'll 100% be using that bad boy due to it being an obvious homage to RE4.

I'm gonna have to cancel my Alien Isolation pre-order for this but based on that trailer I'd say that's an easy decision to make.

So excited for this.

I've been spoiled by RE4 wii's control - point and headshot. I don't know if the artifically hard aiming would be frustrating to go back to. The demo I played didn't have enough combat to judge.

I hope they do give us the option, but I doubt they will. How it was at E3 2014 was perfect. The FPS view bothers me. : (

I really hope. Personally, I like the E3 2013 f.o.v. As this is how I have my settings for RE6. The E3 2014 f.o.v. is quite nice too.

The final build not so much, I mean damn; might as well switch into first-person mode while aiming lol.

Speaking of aiming, I'd love to know why they did this:

PgAP5vT.png

Hmm, yea I don't really dig that either. I would wonder if the camera was blocked, hence it zooming in further to avoid clipping through a wall or something, but it looks like exactly the same location as the E3 2014 pic. Also it really draws attention to the blurry graphics lol.

Hopefully modifiable!

Old build VS New build:

I'm assuming the Eurogamer Expo tags is actually the old version?

That guardian piece is great.

Can't believe Mikami is in his late 40's. Makes sense but sheesh, dude looks young as can be.

The more interviews I read, the more excited I get. I really feel like this game is going to deliver the goods. It just seems like so much thought and effort has gone into balancing the survival horror aspects. I'm sure there'll be annoyances in certain aspects but I am really stoked to get this game in my PS3.

So you played the game with broken controls and now the intended design is "artificially hard"? Come on, son.

Might be to compensate for the narrower window into the game space created by the aspect ratio. Maybe playtesters on smaller screens felt like everything was too small to aim at as intended. The easiest solution would be to zoom further on aim to get Sebastian out of the way of the camera.

Agreed with both of you. Like I said - I'd love to know why they changed it. It just seems too zoomed in to me...

It's the only thing that's slightly dampening my hype. Perhaps when we actually play it we won't really notice it?

Yep. It's come a long way huh?

Pretty sure your right on the money with this suggestion.

Pretty sure the camera has different zoom in views depending on how tight the area Sebastian is aiming in.

I never felt the aim was too zoomed in while playing it. It helps as you want to engage enemies with guns at a distance in this game. Unless you're using the godlike shotgun of course. Probably the best third person shotgun I've played with.

The Evil Within |OT| Mikami's putting in serious work for your money.

Ho. Ly. Shit.

That was so good.

That security camera moment is a fucking instant classic.

It straight up walks into Resident Evil 4 and The Last of Us' turf.

So fucking good.

I don't think so. The 'E3 2014 Build' and 'Final' screenshots are taken from the same spot. And all the recent videos from TGS had the FPS camera every time the player aimed.

These are both taken from the Sessler interview. I think there's definitely a little bit of camera leeway depending on Sebastian's position but I'm not 100% sure. They could be different builds of the game.

We'll never get the E3 2013 version of the aim, but there is a quick aim where you just press right trigger by itself and there's no zoom. I'll see if I can find a pic of it.

In the demo, all three camera angles when aiming are used. I don't fully know what controls it, but it changes dynamically in the game depending when you pull it out, where, in what situation, I've had situation where I pull out my gun and the camera barely zooms in at all, some in a very RE4 manner, and others basically in an almost FPS type of mode.

Must be based on how open the environment you're in is? Either way, Mikami knows how to balance shooting and aim, so I'm not worried.

Interesting.

Quick aim, for reference (this is Casual mode so aim might be a lot more forgiving):

They have to be indeed. If they are successful they might just resurrect AAA horror games. You people better buy them both! I know I am!

I am most likely gonna buy this, but i'm gonna wait for Oculus to come out, before i buy Alien.
Plus with FPS it's always a crap shoot, whether or not i'll be able to withstand the motion sickness.

That's the second aiming mode, which I call the free-roam aiming mode. Casual difficulty does have some aim assist I believe, as well as that eye icon to tell when you're spotted, and I also believe less randomization, and I know for a fact easier puzzles.

The free-roam aiming mode is faster to pull out your gun and you are given a lot more free movement when shooting, can lightly jog around, and good for situations you have to react fast in as Sebastian takes a bit longer to pull out his gun in regular aiming mode and it takes longer to aim at the enemy that's drastically getting too close or attacking at a distance. Free-Roam Aiming makes Sebastian pull it out and aim it down like a cowboy, but in my experience on the normal difficulty his aim is a lot worse with a lot more shaking and when you take shots especially on lower upgrade levels maybe, that his shots would be a lot more far off the mark than it would be in the other aiming mode. Thus I would say its more something to use when you need to react to something quickly rather than a go-to aiming mode, but I am certain there are some elements that can be upgraded about it with green gel and electric chair, but I also am pretty certain with how it was designed that it won't be a replacement for regular aiming.

Old build VS New build:
It's the same build, it just took until now for idtech to load in the textures.
Sorry.

I've been mildly interested in this lately, but... I don't really do horror games that are actually scary, or have me running away a lot. I find Pac-Man stressful enough.

Yep. There's a lot of playthroughs on youtube where the player is getting overwhelmed by an enemy where they should use the free aim but still cling to the left-trigger zoom aim.

Rebecca was definitely the worst part of Remake and RE0. Wasn't her "upgrade" to be modeled after some random JPop star as well? She looked too much like a CG Anime character.

Dude. The wii control made it easier than intended, sure. I could pop head shots left right and center with the wii. But they intended to make it hard, purposely made it hard, 'artifical' is exactly the right word to describe that.

I am fairly certain they've said that in narrower corners the camera will zoom in further when you're aiming, but I might be wrong. It's not exactly a consistent thing (I mean, the three screenshots you've posted are all different areas too)

Looks great, can't wait to soil myself.

That being said, BestBuy is giving away a $10.00 gift card with pre-order. Might be online only, but works for in-store pickup.

I'm so conflicted. This looks so awesome, but I'm unbelievably easily scared. I made it through Resi 4 pretty ok (I know it wasn't really scary) but I couldn't make it through PT without someone else in the room essentially telling me everything that was coming. I have never finished Amnesia.

I really wanna get this game but I don't want it to be another purchase I'm too scared to finish. Darn it. :(

Does that mean that the aim speed varies by situation too, given that the distance your crosshair moves in real space (as opposed to the game space which presumably remains constant across different degrees of zoom) will vary depending on how much it decides to zoom in?

In other words, when it zooms more, will the crosshair appear to move faster across the screen than when it zooms less, given the same player input?

Ha, I would love to game with you. Support TEW. I think it will have a casual mode that would fit an experience you could handle.

I don't agree with that definition of artificial. If anything, Wii controls make it artificially easy.

If intended difficulty can be "artificial," what kind of difficulty is not "artificial"?

And if you're using artificial in the most literal sense, as in "created by humans," then why even use the word when talking about videogames? Everything is artificial which means you don't have to call any particular thing out as being such. Generally when it's used when talking about videogames it is with a negative connotation. If that's not what you intended, then maybe I'm arguing about nothing.

This game is starting to win me over. I've had a definite 'wait and see' attitude towards it, but now I'm finding myself getting a little excited for it.

Do we know if and when the review embargo is? It'd be nice to read some impressions of the final product before purchasing. I notice on PSN that there's a preorder discount for PS+. If the review embargo is release day that sucks, means that Bethesda wants me to preorder it based on blind faith. So I wait to see if it reviews decently, then I go to buy it and end up paying more. It's a shitty system, and the exact thing they did with Wolfenstein.

Same here. It looks incredible so I'm definitely going to pick it up, but at the same time I know I'll probably never finish it on account of shitting myself every time I play. Doesn't help that I usually game at night.
