Yup, feels to me that thus far rarity =/= power. I think overall Team Composition is more important than how many SS characters you have. Endgame may change my opinion, of course.
Some of the later abilities SOUND better than others but I have no basis on that.

Also it takes so long to level without the metal zone, if I can't catch those it'll take ages to get the other abilities anyway. I'm halfway through Ch. 4 and only gone up 1 level on the recruited team. Not even close to the next level either.

ALSO I guess Def vs. Magic def is pretty explanatory, but I don't understand magic attack vs. regular attack. When is your character attacking with one vs the other? or is it always both?

who is Emo-Beas?
When you move through a party member they move one square in the direction you came from. If you move from left to right and pass through a party member the party member will move one square to the left.

Ohhh so that's how it works. Thank you. I just had a battle where i killed 5 enemies in 1 turn and that felt badass.

I have to say SS mage Pfi Zer is a one man wrecking team so far.

his special aoe skill activates like 95% of the time even though it says 50% and totally clears all areas. definitely a good character.

on the other hand, my waifu daiana has the same 50% aoe skill chance and it honestly feels like 10%

maybe its cause he's SS class and she's A?

Not my screenshot.

The direction you approach determines where the pushed party member goes:

If you are funky enough and don't mess up your drawing in the time limit, you can do dumb shit like this to make one unit move multiple spaces (and move multiple units):

i hope these brand new characters are obtainable with gold and not energy >_> otherwise the potential "cost" of the game will skyrocket

i got R'zonand the rose red. he is a status ailment healer. He hits like a child and tanks like one. so far i feel like he's taking up a valuable slot atm, but he has some useful status ailment skills down the line. he seems to level up hella slow though, and the most useful of his skills dont come till his 2nd job.

*sigh* they need to rework the rng for characters. i cant believe i got same characters twice like 4 times in a row

Welcome to the land of FtP. The whole game is designed to separate you from your money. They may be fun to play (I have WAY to many hours in Puzzle and Dragons), but RNG will get you.

I got a R'zonand as well, so I understand having a character that just doesn't pull a lot of weight yet. I think the goal for leveling them is metal Zones, and bring them along for skill boosting when you are farming for Job Materials. That is what I am doing with him and whenever I unlock a new job.

Just remember with FtP, play the game, don't let the game play you. The game is designed to take your money, so use every (EVERY) edge that you may have to get the most out of it.

ideally this game will work like puzzles and dragons and getting 15 or so energy a month for free will be the norm.

yeah i think i will use some of the monster characters i got to do the regular chapters and leave ro'zon to metal.

i will take advantage of every single thing i can. im going to waste all energys right before the last area in a chapter to take advantage of stamina refill.

i will waste all energy in metal land, do a random chapter, and then use 1 stamina to open the battle screen in metal right before i go to sleep while stamina refills overnight. that way when i wake up in the morning i will have enough stamina to get in one metal land even if its closed when i wake up.

this guy f'd up.

Heres what i would have done: with sword girl I would have gone above the mage girl to put her next to the purple mob. then i would have come below the spear knight to position him in the middle of the purple and green mob, then i would quickly move the sword girl to the edge of the map next to the green mob.

this meant that that i would have had 3 characters (mage girl, sword girl, and spear knight) on the same horizontal plane. i wouldnt touch the bow knight. mage and spear knight would have killed the purple mob. then spear knight and sword girl would kill green moba and gotten X3 boost from the mage girl being on same plane as spear knight, and sword girl gotten boost from bow knight being on same vertical plane. the characters would have attacked twice on the same turn

it would have taken less time and less potential chance to botch it up than the loop-de-loops shown here. Only time i would see this technique being more efficient if the mobs were tough and you needed the rock paper scissors boost

I got the same guy, he's ridiculous. Some of the later levels they throw like 15-20 guys on the map -- no match for Pfizer.

Is there a schedule for the metal zones? How do I know when it's going to be open?

Ther's a slightly better move. Before moving sword girl into position on the right, do 2 loops to bring bow guy to the left 2 squares. This way bow guy gets 2 coordinated attacks instead of 1.

And even better is to not use the sword to move. Move the arrow unit instead, shifting the sword to the middle column before heading down. That way your right-most pincer gets the arrow-beats-spear multiplier.

I think I've been going about this wrong. I've just been using a the same high ranking characters the whole time, but I got a battle with all sword users so I just made a team of whatever spear users I had, no matter the rank, and a healer. They wrecked house.

My only issue with this game is how it manages the data transfer between devices. It's kind of annoying having to type up a huge userID and username, along with a password every time you want to transfer data. All I want is to be able to play on my iPad at home, and on my Nexus 5 when I'm on the move.

Should I save my coins to use when I hit a wall?

It says you can recruit enemies that you've previously faced so I'm thinking I'll have a larger pool of stronger candidates.

Any input?

Just got lucky and got SS healer Amina. At her starting level of 10 and she already has better/comparable magic stats than Kuscah who is level 19 right now.

so many cool variances!

also playing this game in a room with spotty connection is horrible :C

METAL ZONE OPEN!

Vanillalite

Ask me about the GAF Notebook
I can confirm the 1st road block for some people will be chapter 8.

It makes sense too because it's the last chapter before you open the next metal zone to really quickly level your characters again.

Use of Metal Zone 1 meant the early chapters were cake, but you can only use MZ1 to level so far. That means each chapter closer to 8 slowly ramps up. Thankfully if you can beat chapter 8 you can power level again via MZ2 which means chapter 9 is waaayyy easier.

Is there a trick to surrounding the metal runners? It's the only thing I really hate about the game.

Try and set up a wall or corall with half your guys and then try to chase them into it, read on the wiki that the slower you move the less chance they have off running.

yay, got a few of my team to lvl 15, now some of them actually have a semi-useful skill. One of them got an area paralyze skill but it doesn't seem to work on the runners in metal zone.

It seems like you've missed the key gameplay component for this type of game.

When you drag your 'moving' piece over another friendly unit you will displace it -- that piece will be shifted one square back, to where your moving piece was prior to entering the other unit's grid position.

See this Puzzle&Dragons gif for reference. Note how the orb-moving system is very, very different to the 'traditional' match-3 type (Bejewelled/CandyCrush/whatever). The possibility space of 'solutions' for any given board is enormous because of the movement mechanic.
RingedFreshFrogmouth.gif

Theoretically, you can reposition your entire team this way - of course, the enemy's position and the game's time limit force you to compromise/strategise within that theoretical.

EDIT: Sorry, me slow. Still got sluggish bed-brains.

Damn, that's cool. I knew about the displacement thing, but didn't realize you can keep doing it by looping around.

I think I was approaching this too much like a srpg but it's more similar a puzzle game.

i have to stop thinking of bow users in the traditional sense.

they are more melee characters that tear up spear users. I gotta take into account the rock paper scissors thing more.
Is there any reason for energy other than Pact of Truth and stamina refills? Or is that it?

if your party gets wiped out you can use one to revive and try again

i love the character design aspects. the lizard and beastfolk arent stereotypical depictions like other RPGs. Lizard people arent all cold or sneaky types, or beastfolk arent all slow or bruttish. All sorts of character backgrounds and attitudes. so varied.

Once you get the displacement thing down I find that the fights get actually pretty fun.

I guess eventually you reach a point when it gets boring, but for the moment it's very cool.

Damn, I really like this game and it doesn't seem to be play to win if you're careful and diligent.

Really hoping we get enough downloads for battle animations.

Damn, just got wiped by a boss that
warps half your team off the battlefield.
Like how is that fair...

I think it's kind of like a chess puzzler if that makes sense. Planning your moves to make the most impact and when you kill 5 enemies or more ib the same attack it's really sarisfying.

took advantage of metal zone.

had 28 stamina. did 2 runs, waited for the last 2 stamina to regen, then did one more run. i only had ~26 mins left in metal zone but was at 0 stamina, so i just left it at the "start battle" screen.

it closed but i was still able to run it once i got 10 stamina

Then karma hit me in the ass and nothing but the mobs that run away spawned and they were all separated across the grid

I was playing the other day for about 10-15 minutes.

I got a S rank from my first 3000 coint, or 5 lighting bolts, nice!

Game is cool so far. I like the art style and music a LOT.

I did my part gaf and got this on iPad and s4.

I really like it actually.

On the iPad version used some currency (lightning) and I got a lv 10 character straight way, my team is still lv 4 lol

lv 20+ characters don't level up if its the 1st zone. only lvs 1-19 get exp.

i dont know if exp is shared, or if its distributed among the eligible level characters

I'm not sure if it's equal, but one thing for sure is that higher ranked characters level up slowly. I have an SS, and S, two Bs, and two Ds. They started out as level 10, 10, 1, 1, 1, 1 in that order. now they are level 15, 17, 19, 19, 20, 20 in that order.
