It was never "debunked"! Some guy made a post in this thread that basically read like: "I read about it on Wikipedia..." and you guys were so quick to take it as fact. There were other posts in this thread that expressed their concerns about it but everyone who tries to defend this game linked to this one post. "I have no idea about the issue but some guy posted that he read about it on Wikipedia!"

I'm sorry that I added to the confusion. I'm not into fringe politics and it's difficult to follow what those people consider to be their own symbols which originally weren't. Makes sense, swastika was also adopted by the first Nazis. I'm not defending the game. Honestly, it seems appaling.

Now for some enlightenment:

I stand corrected!

Whether this is a satire or legitimate case of white supremacy I feel this game deserves to exist if only so both gamers and developers could take a long look at this and realize that our ways of interacting with video games is so limited and black-and-white that we've gotten to the point where someone thought this was a good idea.

Not really a school shooting sim, more of a suburban rampage / mayhem game. It's not unlike the mode in gta where you kill random people and get the cops after you, but as a whole game.

I'm not a fan of it at all but it's hard to support games like gta, saint's row, and many other hyper violent games of the style and be against this one. Maybe the mainstream media has a point?

Nope Just nope .

As much I like beheading orcs in Shadow of Mordor and Fatality in MK this game is literally a murder simulator with no motive other than killing people ?

With the amount of over the top violence in pretty much all forms of media I laugh at the disgusted reactions from posters in this thread. Remember those threads where it was asked what is the most evil/disturbing thing you have done in a video game? This game pales in comparison to some of the stuff posted in that thread.

I guess I'm interested. At least in the same way I'm interested in August underground films. Will need some interesting gameplay mechanics for me to actually play it though.

Seeing such a low profile game get a 33 page thread (mobile, I'm no pleb) makes me think they are doing something smart in terms of generating buzz. The trailer, though, left me feeling a bit odd. This game certainly is not for me.

Just like COD multiplayer... Or any type of multiplayer deathmatch style game. For points.

There's a key difference, though. The people you sit generally are trying to kill you, and they can defend themselves. There's a reason no one bats an eye at CoD until something like No Russian pops up.

There's police and swat that we've seen so far in the game that try to kill you too.

True, but from what I saw in the trailer the police shoot at you. There has to be something opposing you. If there is something opposing you it's no different than going on a rampage in GTA. This game only has issues with the way it's presented. I love disturbing stuff so I'll play it.

I want to be more mad at the game, but it could just be a more focused version of going on a murder spree in GTA. 'How long can you last until the police response overwhelms you?' type thing. Leaderboards. Tactical choices like targeting the police station to disorient their response. Starting out on the outskirts, and working towards the centre.

...

Just sayin'.

i don't feel sick watching this, but more surprised how they managed to make exactly the game that news outlets said what we were playing when younger

this game screams 2edgy4me. I mean, look at the monologue at the start "i hate this fucking world" *gruff voice*. i wouldn't call it a murder simulator, more like CRAAAAAWLING IN MY SKIN simulator. I bet that you can unlock sasuke and dante from the reboot in this game.

Anyways,

I wonder what happens when you play the game and don't kill anyone.... does it become like GTA with 0 Stars... so you can walk around and appreciate the atmosphere..

I mean afterall YOU have to pull the trigger...

This game is metatrolling of the highest order. Calling it Hatred, writing on facebook
”Love it, or hate it. There’s no in-between! ;) Spread it on the web! Share it! Bring it everywhere and let the haters hate! (And they will, oh they will…)”
, announcing it now of all the possible dates...grand mastery of trolling.

I guess I can see why people are outraged but I personally see nothing wrong with this.
Games, just like any other medium, is vast and capable of depicting many things. If people want games to be seen as art then they must accept the ugly and disgusting along WITH the beautiful and thought-provoking.
Not only that but art doesn't need to have any deeper meaning behind it as well. Sometimes a pickle is just a pickle and sometimes a violent ass video game is just that, without needing the make the player question their morality or mortality or whatever. And that's okay in my opinion. I think the games industry NEEDS shit like this. We need games on both sides of the spectrum. We need our "Citizen Kanes" as well asour shclocky, disgusting, horror and gore just for the fuck of it.

This would be pretty
fun.
If they can execute it correctly, then it can be a fun time.

This is quite an interesting game, just flat out saying "You're playing as a psychopath that murders everyone" instead of masking it behind a story related purpose (Bioshock Infinite, Uncharted series, Tomb Raider 2013, ect). I like that :); it makes enjoyment of a game easy when you aren't saying to yourself "....This story is really great but, why is my character killing everyone? It can't just be self defense if he is killing 100's of guys :l...."

I can see why people would be offended to this though, as it is a lot like God of War but without the Greek skin; there is a lot of ultra violence but it isn't masked by fantasy, it is very close to the real deal. As long as this game doesn't have you kill young children, then I think this game can pull off its goal as a fun, abet very violent shooter.

Gotta give these developers credit here; they are really something being so willing to release a game like this and not fear the expected backlash it is going to get, so kudos to them :).

Has any of you ever played one of those school shooting flash games? Or other bandwagon-jumping games?

I'm not asking if they're any good, obviously they're just bad games, but asking if people have actually played any of these. I haven't because I don't want to give them any traffic.

I played Super Columbine Massacre RPG once. It's trying to make a statement but it's not very good. It's the Depression Quest of gun violence.

Someone in high school made a counterstrike map out of our high school. We just thought it was cool, and we never had any shootings.

Seeing gamers criticizing a game about killing people, while at the same time being crazy about uncharted games where they kill minorities by the hundreds, in what is more or less a quest for gold and glory, is what mastercard was talking about all along.

This, very much this.

I'm not sure you get it.

There's a stark difference between a story-driven game where everyone is armed and trying to kill each other, and one where the essential plotline is "the aim of the game is to kill as many unarmed and helpless civilians as possible until you get caught".

It is, at best, highly dubious both morally and ethically. There could be grounds for an argument about the conceptualisation of modern video-gaming with regards to the almost apathetic attitude towards violence, yes. It could be argued that this game takes the core gameplay out of its context and presents it to the player as a sort of existentialist comment on modern social attitudes.

But then this would be bollocks, as the developers of the game have said:

"These days, when a lot of games are heading to be polite, colorful, politically correct, and trying to be some kind of higher art, rather than just an entertainment – we wanted to create something against trends. Something different, something that could give the player a pure, gaming pleasure."

The disclosure that the CEO of the company has links to far-Right groups in Poland certainly hasn't helped. Should this be left out of the equation? Perhaps. But all in all, when looking at the game in its own microcosm, it's already a very odd form of "entertainment". Add to that the developer's comments on how you are supposed to approach the game, and all of the information that has since come out, then I would be very, very wary of the intentions behind such a title.

UE4 logo is something new in this thread, so yeah, dev need to fix this shit up immediately.

Yeah, i believe there's probably something we can learn out of this. As other pointed out, the destruction look nice, and the guy grab the cop by his shirt, something not seen often in other game.

I could be wrong though, i mean, this is all just based on one trailer, so i can'r really be sure. My stance on this is to wait till the game released to see if the game bring something of value.

Thanks, this is exactly what i meant.

The unreal thing was mentioned quite a while ago just got lost in the mess.

Not sure if its been mentioned but Epic has asked them to remove the U4 logo from this trailer. Articles from Dualshockers but not sure if that is a banned site or not so not posting the link.

"Epic Games isn’t involved in this project. Unreal Engine 4 is available to the general public for use “for any lawful purpose,” and we explicitly don’t exert any sort of creative control or censorship over projects. However, the video is using the trademarked Unreal Engine 4 logo without permission from Epic, and we’ve asked for the removal of our logo from all marketing associated with this product."

My two cents, alot of people earlier were saying the womans execution got to them the most in the video. This is generally the reason the military does not want women on the front line as seeing them killed effects male soldiers differently than seeing men killed. However murder is murder weather it be woman or man either is wrong.

Yea now I can completely change my tune this is completely disgusting someone pointed out that just about everyone killed in the trailer was a person of color so I went and rewatched it. They were right wow racist Nazi hate message wrapped up and disguised as a video game. Absolutely fucking disgusting.

this was my argument earlier and then I read this and re watched the trailer. http://fucknovideogames.tumblr.com/...s-a-genocide-simulator-developed-by-neo-nazis

This is the casualty list it all just seems so blatant.

I just realised the people chosen for execution in that trailer happen to be minorities and females. It's their trailer so they decided to show it like this.

First guy looks asian, is a cop. Second guy is a black cop. 3rd guy looks black. Afterwards, three women (one asian and one black). Then, black guy. Male (white?) cop. Female cop. Last person seems like a minority. 3/10 are white, by my guess.

I feel uneasy when that is paired with their racist backgrounds.

Looks pretty true to me.

Black :52
White Cop :59
Black 1:00
Black 1:03
White woman 1:07
Asian woman 1:10
Black 1:16
Black 1:21
Black woman 1:23

These are just the ones from the close ups that I could actually see.

Pretty cool that even 13-year-olds can make games these days.

This looks so fucking dumb. Looks like a parody of violent games you would see in the background of a TV series.

Hotline Miami on UE4 accepting they have no plot whatsoever?

Count me right in.

PS: All this fuzz.... I thought we went over this more than a decade ago with Manhunt.

What a facile, shallow way of evaluating the praise worthiness of something. I'm sure you'll be the first person to applaud the devs who eventually make a pedo simulator under the guise of pushing the envelope.

Between the dozens of "this is just like GTA" or "hmmm, the CEO may be a reactionary racist but that shouldn't stop me from enjoying his game where I play a domestic terrorist" comments, I've never seen a thread on GAF that so neatly divides posters into people with common sense and the ability to interpret tone and context, and those who are easily swindled by bargain basement garbage like this masquerading as "pure entertainment."

So we've already gone from hating on the game to hating on the people who say anything positive about the people who are making the game... THAT WAS FAST.

Now you've gone from hating on just a single person, to bashing entire groups of members in a single stroke.

Surely this was the aim of the developers when they made the game? They said so themselves. You can't defend the game and yet call out out people who have a visceral reaction to it.

There's a stark difference between a story-driven game where everyone is armed and trying to kill each other, and one where the essential plotline is "the aim of the game is to kill as many unarmed and helpless civilians as possible until you get caught".

uncharted isn't a game where everyone is armed and trying to kill each other, that would be something along the lines of a CoD, also lets remember child soldiers are also technically armed people, doubt anyone would make an argument it's cool to go there and kill them.

Nathan Drake chooses to go to where likely impoverished people are being exploited, and proceeds to kill them all not always in self defense, since many times the engagement is started by him, all this in a quest to get some lost treasure (and likely some fame).
In any other world a person/character that would go to an impoverished part of the world with the sole objective to try and steal what is there and in this process kill people, would at least be seen as a person that isn't very nice, but in the world of gaming this character is considered charismatic, cool and what not, I'm sure some people even think his a nice guy. The truth however is that he's a murdering thief.

So in short in Hatred we have what is clearly a disturbed individual, going around killing people (some of them are also armed), and in uncharted we have what appears to be a reasonably normal white male, going to other countries to steal things and kill anyone that is in his way (making jokes during the journey BTW). Now it's perfectly fine to think one is better than the other, either as a game or as a social statement, but to glorify one and vilify the other, seems hypocritical.

I'll wait until more info and footage is revealed about this game before passing final judgment. But what was shown so far makes me a bit uncomfortable. I'm not one to get bothered easily...most well-known controversial games in the past didn't faze me. If the whole game is really just a civilian mass murder simulator with no background story and with racist overtones, then I could see it being rejected by Steam and GOG. I'm all for devs having freedom to create what they want, but there's a line that's best not to cross.

What a waste of talent in my opinion. The visuals, gameplay and style just look amazing. They could've been used on a much less disgusting concept for a game. This is disturbing.

All the video game controversies and news reporting on murder simulators makes this feel like the 90's again.

It's time to bring back Carmageddon. Edit: Nvm it's already back.
