Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer #1

The What If? Age of Ultron #1 was one of the better Marvel comics I've read in awhile. I didn't read Age of Ultron, but I sure as hell enjoyed that. I'm not sure if there's a Marvel villian as brutal and dark as that, at least as it was portrayed in that story.

The shot of cap, widow, banner, and thor at 0:28 could not look more obviously "we're in front of a green screen" than it does currently. Fucking CG

I'm not saying that the villains are amazing I'm saying that acting as if they're utter dogshit is underselling a fair few of them. You'll also realise that many of your examples I didn't mention because, I also agree they're not good. I would never act as if every villain or organisation in those movies are utterly awful because it isn't true.

I agree that the villains are lackluster compared to Batman villains but I'd argue that is because Batman in the Nolan trilogy gets very little development. Hell, I have some serious problems with the way that Batman was portrayed in, especially, The Dark Knight Rises but the villains are usually good, save for Bane who I saw to be wasted potential. Catwoman and Bane in those movies had some great anti-Capitalist/Marxist diatribes about the rich being brought down but that was all thrown out the window just to pull the Talia Al'Ghul twist and what I expected to be a commentary on modern society and excess turned into a basic revenge story. I only say this as a fan of Batman. Point being that the series is largely lauded as being some great example but, aside from The Dark Knight, I disagree.

I agree in that the villains are more interesting but I'd say that it's at the cost of Batman. I'm aware I will probably be hung, drawn and quartered for this.

As for Marvel having better villains at their disposal, maybe, I'm not sure where my position on that is.

One thing I hate about communicating over the internet, so much gets lost in translation due to the other 70% lol

Anyway, I dont think the Villans are like awful, they're just no where near as good as they should/could have been especially when you have that much material to work with. In relation to the batman comment, I have to disagree personally... the whole trilogy really gave you a fantastic look at the Bruce Waynes journey, from becoming batman, to learning how to have to adopt the bruce wayne persona, never killing even if your enemy was a psychopathy, to finally being over the hill but sacrificing your body one last time because that what it means to be a hero to you. And I love the underlying theme of what batman represents or is there to protect... Gotham, the lengths he goes to protect his city is awesome.

Man look, Nolan is not perfect by any stretch of the imagination and rises was certainly a miss-step in alot of places. But I honestly dont think there has been a single superhero film that has translated portroyed soo many parts of a comic onto the big screen.

But I dont wanna turn this into Dark Knight vs Marvel thing, they're two totally different films and have/had different goals in mind.

I think you mean Thor. I actually want to see more Hawkeye.

Well, this looks hell of a lot better than Bendis' Age of Ultron, which was just trash for the most part.

Honestly, I kinda think Hickman said "I need some time travel shenanigans to start off the incursions" and Bendis was all "X-men and Ultron. Done."

Would be cool if that's Visions body he is in which would amount for it being more human like.

Yeah, but it's probably not. It's probably just the same reason Optimus and the new TMNT were given more human mouths, because someone in Hollywood keeps telling everyone everyone needs human mouths to speak

I watched this trailer like 20 times already, i love it but...That scene with the ballerinas fells so out of place.

My kids pointed out the same thing. It's especially funny with the music playing at that point, the juxtaposition had us laughing. Doom, destruction, foreboding and...ballerinas.

Also when you think about it there's a lot they haven't shown yet such as
Von Strucker

There's a wintery shot with Hawkeye and some military-type dudes shooting from an APC or some other emplaced gun. It looks like they're shooting blue bolts, so I'd guess they were Hydra

Could very well be Hydra but if I remember right the set leaks said they
fight Strucker in Africa
but I could be remembering wrong.

No, only people using robots against Tony. The closest thing to what you're talking about was War Machine being used as a drone against him, but even that was just another person using a robot against him. That swarm of drones in Iron Man 2 didn't turn on him. They were built specifically to ambush him.

I mean yeah... I'm not gunna lie I can kind of hold my hand up to this one, I'm maybe being a bit of ignorant douche, I just saw robot robot robot. Whether they were with him, against him, for him... just too many robots man.

And can someone let me now, we seem to be heading toward a more Civil War storyline as Opposed to Inifinite?

What the hell was the points of gems and little pieces detail they've been building up to.

So I've watched this trailer like 10 times between yesterday and today and while I really like it, I can tell they're holding a lot of shit back. Seeing Ultron and the Hulkbuster armor is pretty cool, but it would've been nice to see one or two more moneyshots like those.

One of the best moments of my life thus far was showing some stills of this trailer to my 6 year old daughter:

Me: And this is Ultron he's...
Her: I know him. He's from the Avenger's cartoon. He's really hard to beat.
Me: ...

You are a very good dad. Bonus points that this is shared with a daughter.

Avengers' first trailer's CG was far behind the CG in this trailer. Clearly CG was a much higher priority early on.

That hardly means the CG shots are final. Early trailer shots are almost never final these days. Not with the insane production schedules and the push to keep budgets as trim as possible.

The Infinity Gems and Thanos will be the biggest factors in Avengers 3(and possibly 4 from the sound of the rumors.) The Civil War storyline will lead into the divide of The Avengers teams, which will be a large factor in their battle against Thanos as well.

since you are here: is it even possible to do decent effects on ant-man with the schedule marvel has? they just began shooting, film is out in july. how the hell is that going to work? 20 vfx companies working together?

Man I cannot get over this trailer. James Spader is going to kill it as Ultron. "There are no strings on me." Damn that delivery gives me chills.

Really, really looking forward to this because I know Whedon can deliver a menacing villain and Ultron is shaping up to be amazing.

Very neat. Saw Rhodey is there when mangled Ultron is talking, is he suiting up as War Machine/Iron Patriot or whatever in this movie?
