It was in my top five that this thread brought to mind. As a whole the movie is beautifully animated. The thing that elevates it is duet thattturns into a full blown band rendition of Japanese "country roads."Best Ghibli.
The truth has been spoken.Best Ghibli.

this motherfucking masterpiece right here.
The Wind Rises for me too. It's not my favorite Ghibli movie, but it's an absolute masterpiece.

I was just about to say ghost in the shell. One of my top 3 anime films. There's better choices than mine, many great classics and modern movies one could choose, but I'd recommend Ghost in the Shell. A rather short, very atmospheric animated sci-fi movie with an incredible soundtrack.
It's one of the few animes I'd actually recommend as a legitimately great movie.
Surprised by the lack of Princess Mononoke..
Came here to recommend this one! It's so, so, so good. I too would recommend to anyone, but parents especially should watch it!![]()
Loved the film and would recommend it anytime!
*edit* Wolf Children is the name of the film in case y'all were wondering
Totoro and Ponyo would probably be great for that age range.this thread reminded me I need a recommendation.
basically I loathe anime but have heard good things about Miyazaki. What film of his would you recommend I watch with my 5 year old daughter, I just looked at a "top 11" of his films on youtube and some of them seem quite dark.
suggestions?
My Neighbor Totoro is your safest bet.this thread reminded me I need a recommendation.

this
Satoshi Kon (RIP) really out-did himself with this one
I couldn't, in good faith, recommend Millennium Actress because I feel most people would miss its nuances unless they were well versed in Kon's directorial style.
It's definitely not a universal message, unlike, say, The Lion King.
This is good, but I would also nominate Ghost in the Shell 2 for its animation quality even though the story may be a bit muddy. Truly a beautiful piece of work that embodies what japanese animation is all about.Spirited Away. No contest.
Honestly The Wind Rises, but then again I think it's best seen in relation to Miyazaki's work and understanding his story. It's such a beautiful film, I really think it's his best.

Nausicaa: Of The Valley of The Wind
NO ONE POSTED THIS YET?
WHAT THE HELL MAN.
Fantastic Planet
This movie surprised me so much.Fantastic Mr fox
Its a great movie but if it has to be one movie, Princess Mononoke explores the themes better.
This.The Castle of Cagliostro.
