15-20 hours, which is "short" these days aparently :)

last 2 games I played of that lenght, The Evil Within and Styx, I was about ready to be done with both near the end (and I loved him) so this is the sweet spot for me

Lol. People...

Thats not short at all. I agree with you Rhaknar, thats almost a few hours too long for me these days.

15-20 hours is really solid for a linear third person Action RPG and only pales in comparison to the length of the latter two Souls games.

Yeah I'd prefer it be 10-12 so I can run through it a second time with a completely different build, but maybe that's just me.

I'm quite enjoying it so far. My only major complaints are the performance (PS4 here) and some poorly explained mechanics. So, not unlike Souls to be honest. I would've liked a character creator too but hey.

I doubt it'll light the world on fire critically but it's a pretty cool game from what I've played so far. Its strongest suit is the combat and presentation - some great weighty sound effects here that are miles above the wet slapping combat sounds in Souls.

I hope this turns out good. I'm excited to play it.

I'm expecting tragic reviews though. This will be absolutely savaged simply by virtue of not being Souls. No part of this game will be allowed to stand on its own and will be relentlessly contrasted with Souls.

There will definitely be a split, that part is clear. I'm enjoying what it is and what it offers in terms of the Souls style mechanic approach but I definitely feel it has changed enough to be interesting. Of course, everyone's tastes are different and so we will see!

Not 100% sold on the game, but it looked pretty good in the streams I saw.

I'll wait for GAF impressions and then see if I can snag myself a cheap enough copy.

None at all?? Wtf is this like 1988? That's disappointing to hear. I do have this on preload so I'm playing either way.
Souls games have no maps either. And I wouldn't have it any other way. Of course, their intricate and memorable designs made it so that you rarely got lost, I don't know how the level design is in Lords of the Fallen. If it's generic room -> corridor -> room -> stairs, well... :|

that was meant to say "them" lol, no you didnt uncover my secret love of goblins...

...because its not secret, goblins are awesome. true story
I aint judgin' :p

You can backtrack all the way to the start if you want, and there are hidden chests, dungeons etc to find.
That's great. I wonder if any of these hidden stuff shed more light on the lore a la Dark Souls.

Edit:

When the year I was born in is used as an example for old/outdated shit :'(

Is there any sort of fast travel in the game, or do you literally have to backtrack through the entire thing? Makes me think it's a pretty short game if so.

Looking forward to picking this one up but I'm almost certain it'll have a decent sale for Black Friday so I'll wait a bit.

No fast travel but let's just say there is a area of the game that sorta connects the different areas of the map.

I'll be sure to chime in on this for what it's worth later on. Unlocks at 3am I'll probably play 6 atleast. I've put about 150 hours into DkS and around 60 in DkS2. Didn't make it far in Demons Souls as I just didn't have the drive to play it when I bought it along with probably 10 other ps3 games. Then sold the ps3 and games 4 months later ha.

Definitely interested in this game, looking forward to reviews. I've got a Souls itch, but i'm burned out on DS2 and waiting for Ds1 to get patched, and don't wanna plug in my ps3 for Demon's. Ahh so lazy.

one day people will realise that, just like with movies (where, strangely, this is much less of a problem), it is OK to like bad games

it is OK to think a game is bad and still like it. It seems, contrary to movies, most people are incapable of seperating both things and just say "well fuck that reviewer, I thought it was awesome, I loved it"

with movies, you say "man that movie is terrible but I loved it" all the time.

Im not saying the game is or isnt good btw, I have no idea, its just something ive been wanting to say for a long time and I predict its a good game to say this about :p

Agreed.

And there are times when I read a post that goes something like "I've played this game for 80 hours, and I can't believe I wasted my time on this piece of shit"...

I mean, you can enjoy a game that you believe is pretty bad from an objective standpoint. But to play a game for so many hours only to realize after the fact that you didn't really enjoy it? I never understood this kind of behavior.

Just something I wanted to say as well.

IGN review is up
7.4

seems its easy, as expected and advertized by streamers. Im ok with that, I have little time and too many games these days. Dark Souls difficulty was something I learned to live with, not something I cherrished

but Im someone that plays every game on normal if given the chance, and I fully understand how this would turn some people off
