QFT.

It's clunky as f**k to say the less.

Can't zoom out enough to oversee the battlefield. The camera tends to be rather jumpy when there are obstacles while panning the view, and the controls are...ugh.

Add to that, that you can't input more than one command nor select more than one character to issue basic actions (like move to x, basic attacks to y etc.), and the I.A-pathfinding leaves a lot to be desired...

I don't know how can anyone say with a straight face that you can play in tactical camera very well or even "like in those infinity-engine games".

It's a real shame cause the combat system is fun as hell and well thought-out...

Being mage (winter's tree of skill as primary, specialization-to-be Knight Enchanter) is a blast.

Blows my mind this isn't in the game, wtf?

The cutscenes are limited to 30 FPS, it's really stupid.

Oh no. CG cutscenes again!? I guess it's one of those last-gen limitations since the game is cross-gen.

I was so sick of those in Mass Effect 2 and 3 especially because they look much lower res than anything else, have awful godrays and run at half the framerate on PC. On consoles it's less noticeable.

I agree with the tactical view. Very bizarre that they have it zoomed in so close - I expected Baldur's Gate style.

Performance wise, my GTX 770 2GB & 4760k @ 4.2GHz can run it at high (with 2 medium settings) at 1080p, at mostly 60.

Does anyone else get a locked 30 in cutscenes/dialogue though? I've not read the rest of the topic. At first I thought it might have been Ubisoft-style vsync, but that didn't fix it.

Edit:
The cutscenes are limited to 30 FPS, it's really stupid.

I guess I should have just looked a couple of posts up.

yup can confirm cut scenes locked at 30 >_>

the little cutscene right before the chrater creator dropped to exactly 30, then jumps back to 120fps on the actual character creator lol

oh well

edit: oops fucked up and started the game without actually costumizing >_<

Plenty of reviews cited issues with the tactical camera. I believe Game Informer cited it as one of their negatives.

They avoided to tell us the juicy details like people are discovering now also all of them kinda said "oh, no that's not really important" for a lot of bugs and still give the game high reviews.

It's not CG. It's in-engine, full resolution. Just capped to 30 FPS.

Combat is extremely well suited to gamepad, this I love so much.......

It's what I always wanted from Origins, but never got in return.. <3

A game can get high reviews with bugs mate.. look at Skyrim/Any Beth game.....

Seems polished to the highest degree to me, tactical camera seems great too, I'm thinking the mouse and keyboard might not feel as good as this (gamepad), as it feels FANTASTIC for once in an RPG :D

skipped all the cutscenes because I want to actually customize my dude so want to restart, but walked around a bit when you get control, was getting between 65 and 80fps. kinda want to just lock it to 60 tbh, might play fullscreen with vsync

So should I roll Qunari warrior/reaver or rogue/assassin?

On the one hand, Qunari's are designed better as warriors. On the other hand, I played warrior in DA2. I was rogue/duelist (human) in Origins. Plus I plan on using Iron Bull a lot if he's not annoying.

Decisions.

I might just swap to game pad then. During the first boss fight trying to get the
rift crystal
in view was a nightmare. Had to do some wacky camera swinging where instead if I could have just zoomed out a bit further it wouldn't have been an issue.

How easy is medium? If I am gonna try and do a whole bunch of the optional grind content I want the battles to be snappy. I don't mind the casual trash mobs being super easy as long there is still some tactical challenge when fighting bosses and dragons and such.

But the kill 10 rats thing is not to play on very hard I think.

Not sure if this has been asked, but how many of you are diving into this game without playing the other two?

I'd largely be playing it for the story, but it sounds like I'm better off plowing through the first two games first.

Really? Maybe because animations are locked at 30fps then, or might it be because some of the cinematic effects (like DoF) are too heavy? Can anyone confirm this?

I've turned down post processing and everything, and it's locked at 30. Very jarring coming from 60 and it brings about a stutter - I can't imagine coming from a higher framerate.

@LongMuckDong : it's time that we stoped this and be faire like AC unity case. When ther're bugs or bad things, reviewers should not turn a blind eye on them.

The Dalish always have tattoos. It's a lore thing.

In the previous games you were not forced to have tatoos when you create your character.

There needs to be a PC performance thread. Nothing against you PC dudes but nothing is worse then pages of driver, FPS and khz talk.

cant wait for tomorrow!

Hm I can't enable Mantle, only Direct3D 11

My specs:
CPU: AMD FX 8320 Octa-Core Prozessor
GPU: ASUS Radeon R9 280X DirectCU II TOP
RAM: 2x Kingston 4GB (1600 MHz, CL9) DDR3
Mainboard: Asrock 980 DE3/U3S3
HDD: Western Digital WD10EZEX Blue 1TB

any Ideas? Maybe I shouldn't have everything on Ultra?

After playing for about an hour, the constant back-and-forth between the 30 FPS cutscenes and 60 FPS gameplay was making me really ill. Fortunately, the game has a built-in frame limiting command that doesn't apply to the loading screens or the UI. If anybody else is interested, open the console with ~ and type GameTime.MaxVariableFPS 30

Sad that I had to do it, because it looks really nice at 60 FPS, but at least I can play it now.

Then it's because animation only have 30 frames per second and if it got any higher the animations would look choppy while the rest is fluid, like in Halo 1 on PC.

Well, then I don't regret buying this for PS4. I've gotten pretty tired of the inconsistencies of Bioware's PC ports. (Man I wish DA had kept being PC First, then console.)

Just checked on my PS4 real quick and found that DA:I wasn't downloading because my hard drive was full. Would of really sucked to only find that out at midnight haha

So elves must have tattoos? See no way to turn it off.

If I remember right, the forest dwelling Dalish in the first game wore facial tattoos to honor their Gods. There was another group of them who lived in cities as a servile caste, and they tended not to have them. I guess DA:I assumes that any elf is the first type. Maybe that's why you don't have a "none" option under tattoos. That, or Bioware was being lazy.

God the music in this game is excellent. Really enjoying it so far. The markers are good too, easy to know where to go. Not sold in the item and equip system yet as it has symbols more like dark souls and I'm not sure if it tells you what each one is when you equip a new weapon.

Anyone else getting mad stuttering during cutscenes on PC? The actual game runs smooth as silk for me but once a cutscene starts it stutters like a motherfucker.

I am. I read Kotaku's beginners guide to Dragon Age and honestly I feel like I know enough of the lore and gist of the past two games to understand what's going on. I expect to be confused by some stuff but I'll just look things up as I go probably.

In Inquisition all elven PCs are Dalish, while in DA:O you could play as a city elf.

Fun fact, even though the Dalish see themselves as superior and tattoo their faces to represent their different gods, they're frequently a bunch of assholes that honestly don't know shit about their gods. They're just trying to be superior to the elves in the city.

Gaf- help a DA virgin out.

Roll a rogue archer or Mage knight enchanter? Who do I want to hang with for 100 hours?

I typically play warrior/melee types but like that the acher can move and Fire. Mage looks like they root when casting. I also prefer wearing armor to robes.

Also- when I craft, is it only for my character or can I make items for my party?

Thx in advance. Pretty hyped for a series I have played. Digital purchase for ps4 based on reviews and gaf love.

So it really sounds like gamepad is the way to go on PC. Oh well. It still looks fun enough to play. I'll probably stick to hard and avoid the tactical cam - just pause and swap chars to issue commands.

Same here, the jolt when it switches is horrible. I was limiting it to 30 with Afterburner but I'll try that command. Maybe combine it with Afterburner.

Any class can be fun, and being able to bounce around and play as other characters keeps it from getting too stale. I played through one of the DLCs for DA2 yesterday and ended up spending the entire time as a mage instead of my warrior Hawke.

Best advice, look at the companions and if there is someone you absolutely don't care for, choose their class. Then you never feel like you have to have them in your party, and you can pick up your spec to whatever works best for you.

One more thing, read over the opening of the OT. Basic understanding of the lore is pretty important.

that would have been infuriating. I have not been that close but, it would be nice to have a prompt pop up when you are going to exceed hd space.

I'm pretty sure that the Dalish were. They could be subtle, but they did have to be there, IIRC.

Nope since they were shared across all races so player can choose to have tatoos or not.
They were just an option.

The guy was asking why is he forced to have tatoos while in previous game he wasn't forced too as a Dalish elf and people started to doubt him.
I just agreeded with him.

No need to justify the reason of Bioware to have forced that option in Inquisition, that was not my point.
